Increase the pay, change the law.  Do you think hispanic kids have "I want to work in the fields" coded into their DNA?

Job I have no problem with a farm worker program to import migrant workers. But instead of Bushes plan of 3 years at a pop I think 8 months a year is enough,after all they are temporary workers not permanent. And it needs to be better patrol like if  a migrant worker doesn't return back when he is required then say his other family members would be rounded up and sent back home as a penalty. Also other family members in their home country would not be eligible for the program. There has to be some kind of control on the program. As it is now most immigrants who come here legally on like a work visa simply just stays after it expires.

I to worked in the fields as a kid. I would go with my mom and brothers and pick strawberries when I was a little kid IN Oregon. Latter here in California I worked a couple of summers tying grape plants and pulling weeds from around the plants. I do agree that the pay could be incressed. As it is now most Mexicans don't want to work the Fields either because of the low pay. They are working other lobs like construction that pays more. But now the problem is you have people building your Holmes that cant speak English or read the blue prints. I don't know if you saw the article in the TN a while back on all the people that recently bought homes in Tehachapi and some of the Holmes are trash.........

The government has a duty to provide decent, effective, timely medical care to people in its custody. That should be beyond debate, but not when the government in question is the Bush administration and the people in custody are illegal immigrants.

Job, I too worked in the fields in Ohio. I detasseled corn (so it wouldn't cross pollinate), picked pumpkins and loaded them on flatbeds and worked in Libby's tomato processing plant..  I also would not do it again nor would I want my kids to do that.  So Gube--who will pick all these crops and work in the fields?

Yes Greg I do see this as a good thing. I only wonder if its all just a smoke and mirrors game because this is a election year. I hope that is not the case. This is such a complex problem that with no simple fix. I believe it will take a multitude of solutions to fix illegal immigration. Federal prosecution, completion of the border wall, prosecuting employers that hire illegal aliens, Electing politicians that will support our existing immigration laws. At least now something we can see something being done.
