Schwarzenegger: Illegal immigrants not to blame for budget mess

By Kevin Yamamura

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, responding to the mother of a Republican state legislator, said Wednesday it would be a "big mistake" to blame illegal immigrants for the state's looming $8 billion budget problem.

The Republican governor was in San Luis Obispo to pitch his budget proposal to local officials and business leaders when he was asked by Diane Blakeslee, mother of Assemblyman Sam Blakeslee, R-San Luis Obispo, how the state should handle fiscal burdens created by illegal immigrants.

"There is, you know, always a time like this where you start pointing the finger at various different elements of what creates the budget mess, and, you know, some may point the finger at illegal immigrants," Schwarzenegger said. "I can guarantee you, I have been now four years in office in Sacramento, I don't think that illegal immigration has created the mess that we are in." http://ad.doubleclick.net/c... "http://clk.atdmt.com/go/dbr... 1206595426562)" coords="0,0,0,0" shape="rect" />

The governor's comments came a day after Assembly Republicans announced a package of 20 bills they said would help California reduce the "negative impact" that illegal immigrants have on the state budget. Included are proposals to repeal a law enabling undocumented students to pay in-state college tuition and to demand more money from the federal government for housing illegal immigrants in state prisons.

Schwarzenegger said he believes the United States should pursue immigration reform and have tougher border controls. But he added that blaming illegal immigrants "because we have a budget problem would be a big mistake. I think we have to look at ourselves in Sacramento. We in Sacramento have the responsibility to come up with a coherent budget system, and we haven't done that."

The governor is seeking a long-term budget fix that would build a "rainy-day fund" whenever the state has a surplus in revenues. He has spent the last two weeks traveling to different cities to discuss the budget and ask local residents to pressure their legislators into early negotiations.

I agree with Arnold.  The budget in California is a mess because the government of California sucks and the people elected to office in this state make decision that to call stupid would be a complement.  Not that illegal immigration doesn't contribute, because I'm sure it does.  But the fact that it costs more to live in California than anywhere else in the U.S.A. and California taxes are up there with the highest state income and sales taxes in the country (and yet our education system is always broke and crying for money) is not due to illegal immigrants.  Its due to just plain bad and stupid decisions like Gray Davis' power deregulation.  There's a reason  California is referred to as "La La Land" everywhere else in the country.

I agree with Scottso. It is not one problem but many that created the California budget problems. The government of California taxes the heck out of us and then sees silver lining in the fact that the gas prices are going up. What they don't seem to understand in that case is that the gas prices may be going up so they can get more taxes off it, but that most people will start to cut their traveling down to save gas. Then those like me that have drive to work will take local vacations instead of traveling, cut cost of other leisure and so look for a smaller car to drive to work to cut the monthly fuel bill each month. Which means less money flowing back into the economy. Then they don't see that the higher taxes tend to drive people and larger companies out of California which also equals less income to the state budget and economy.

That said, I do believe that the illegal population does cause many problems with the budget, like under the table salaries, added healthcare expense, and in some cases loss of good jobs to legal citizens.

The mayor of Los Angeles, along with many city government officials, see no wrong in pandering to special interest groups. Even though  Assemblywoman Mimi Walters, a Republican from Oceanside, said illegal immigrants cost California taxpayers an estimated $9 billion each year.

We are not just fighting the 12 to 20 million illegal immigrants that are squatting in our country, but fighting powerful influences of the globalist open border, free traders, whose deliberate plan is the free movement of cheap labor throughout this North American Continent. Study the destruction of the identity of sovereign nations in the European Union, that has already commenced and its progressive  erosion of U.S. citizen rights that  is beginning here. The globalist want to streamline unfettered immigration in America, in a unique way to sell the NAFTA treaty. This is not racism, but pragmatism & common sense! Every industrialized nation has taken steps to end illegal immigration and to limit legal immigration to only that which is prudent, demonstrably necessary, and above all other concerns, in the best interest of their native population. Its insane to suggest that America should not do likewise! We have seen the consequences  of   balkanization of our own communities, with large and growing population with loyalty to other Nations; the overall decline in our quality of life are the result of unrestrained illegal immigration! America cannot accept the worlds population of other countries.

The illegal invasion can only be understood by the corrupting influence on politicians of money for cheap labor for the Republicans or the Welfare votes for the Democrats that makes them dishonor their Oath of Office, the US Constitution against Invasion, and Enforcement of our Immigration Laws! Powerful forces at work to stop relevant immigration enforcement, that includes La Raza and friends, big businesses, the church machine and other special interest lobby. If we do not fight back now, nothing will stop the ever-mounting greed of the globalist agenda. It will mean continuous stream in the future; an avalanche of cheap workers who will eventually be taking more and more jobs from American workers. TXDOT wants has a plan to construct a NAFTA highway from Mexico to Canada, which is being funded by foreign speculators. Our president is a globalist, who believes in no borders along with many wealthy Democrats and Republicans? Almost every immigration law including the border fence has been gutted by both sides of the Washington aisle.

A final accounting is on hand, before we swear in a new president. All three desire to enact amnesty and allow the 12 to 20 million people who
have broken our laws of sovereignty to stay. If the SAVE ACT is enacted this will demand that all those here without papers must leave. They call this attrition or self-deportation. The SAVE ACT is a by-partisan law is awaiting just 18 signers, to bring this enforcement only to a House vote. The SAVE ACT will supersede any state laws, in its magnitude.

H.R. 4088 can enforce "THE RULE OF LAW"
