Why are we paying for all CIty Employees transportation?
Fuel is too expensive to be paying for the city employees to drive to and from work everyday!

Fuel for city workers paid for?!

Have you ever sat by the the fitness gym or over by the exit from the 58 to Tehachapi about 4:00pm or so? Well next time take a look at all the city of Tehachapi trucks that leave the area. Are they all going home? If yes why are we paying for their fuel to go home everyday? I hope there is a reasonable explanation for this but I personally don't drive much at all to save a few dollars on my fixed income! With gas pushing $4.50 a gallon we as a city should be very upset! I would like to have an answer.

Many of the city workers are on call and their tools are in the trucks-----in a water emergency for example,  it saves time.       &n bsp;       I think their mileage is calculated and deducted from their pay periodically.   Someone should be able to give you a better answer.

Do you really think we need 6 or 7 guys on call?

Oh.. it's "hello tehachapi" not "hell to tehachapi"  man my dyslexia can really screw up my opinions, anyway maybe they have a condition of employment which warrants the use of a company truck, many many construction and service companies do maybe they have to buy the gas and just use the truck, or I would guess its just one of the perks of the job. I don't know I guess I have not ever paid that close of attention to where the trucks go and how do you know they are going home? Maybe its a second shift leaving on their rounds or they park somewhere else overnight. I don't know it just seems kind of petty to worry about the city trucks.

Well Kat lover; I have no problem with constrution complanies allowing their employees to take a vehicle home. For a very simple reason: THAT IS NOT TAX PAYER MONEY! I think it is just a small example of how government agenecies feel no remorse about wasting taxpayer money. I think it is far fetched to believe there is a second shift or they park the trucks somewhere else. Why is it they all leave at the same time? Because they are going home! It may sound petty, but this is just the tip of the "foolish spending" iceberg in the CIty of Tehachapi. So you realize those trucks probable get 8-10 miles per gallon. I have a large truck like the trucks they drive and I know it kills my budget.

Hello,,,here's one that's really going to get your goat about foolish spending of American tax payers dollars. Our American children are not going to have access to busing this summer as they have every year before. BUT the migrant kids will, do you suppose they are all Americana's? The city is small fry tax compared to that...could be why California is broke.

hellotehachapi- I see that you first posted this blog  Friday morning June 6th.   Did it occur to you to call city hall anytime at all on Friday and see if they could answer your question?  Or if anyone there could tell how to find out this info?    I stated that I think they have to account for their mileage and that someone else can probably give you a better answer.    (My message was posted a couple hours later which still gave you time to call around for an answer.)   Your response to my post was  "Do you really think we need 6 or 7 guys on call?"       I won't answer this question for 2 reasons--number one being that it doesn't matter a hill of beans what I think and number 2---I don't know for fact that there ARE 6 or 7 guys on call.    I also don't know for a fact how many vehicles you saw.       &nb sp; I guess my point is this:   you had ample opportunity to try to find an explanation and to post it .

Don't get me wrong, I pay my share of taxes and am in no way connected with City Hall.  I'm also on a fixed income and don't like seeing my tax dollars wasted.    If you have uncovered a loss of city funds, I commend you and will apologize.

Thank you maggies42, for sugg esting the obvious! Got a problem with the city? For cryin out loud, stop spreading stupid rumors and pick up the phone and ask your questions at the source! They city manager is actually the most honest, well-spoken, dedicated and genuinely concerned administrator I've ever met.  He grew up here and wants what's best for those who are also committed to raising their families here while preserving our small town quality of life. And no, I don't work for the city nor am I in politics, but I've been following the council meetings for several years. I've actually asked questions at City Hall, and I've gotten answers. Even some I didn't like so much, but I respect that spirit of cooperation and openness that I know to exist in Tehachapi.

What is also obvious is hellotehachapi is just another new profile for the political mudslinging machine that is dead set on smearing the city in any way possible, since there are two city council seats up for re-election this year. This individual and his cronies has a colorful history of spreading rumors and scandal to smear the council and city staff at any cost. There's never any attempt made to provide real, useful information, just propaganda. The campaign manager for these political animals along with the unscrupulous councilman who refuse s to work cooperatively with anyone at the city/council, has already published slanderous emails and blogs naming everyone and anyone connected with the city and various civic leaders as somehow incompetent, immoral and so on. Some real "Days of Our Lives" kind of material that's actually quite humorous if you actually know anything about the real individuals under attack.  What's worse is that this faction committed libel (over and again) while flagrantly impersonating a former supporter who became disgusted by the underhanded tactics of this faction and initiated a recall vote.

Anyone who has doubts about what's going on at City Hall or in the city in general should pick up the phone and call! Call the city manager. Call each individual councilperson. Go to the meetings. It only takes about 5 minutes of listening to this particular negative, conspiracy theorist, mudslinger and you can easily form your own opinion. Don't take my word for it, just ask your own questions and listen to the kinds of answers you get. Better yet, just watch and see how I'll be attacked after I post this.

It's too easy to lump our local government leaders into the bigger picture of overspending, Haliburton, EnRon, big business profit seeking political machine that's been squeezing the American Dream out of us average Joes for the past 8 years. The truth is there's no glory or profit to be gained from serving in small town politics unless you plan to continue climbing waaaaay up the ladder. But it's kind of hard to do that when you can't agree, or agree to disagree and still find solutions with at least one of your colleagues.

maggies42 is right those guys need trucks at home and  be on call all the time. even on our tax money, if they weren't who would fix problems that might arise in the middle of the night when you are sleeping. yes it can be true that tax money is sometimes wasted and that's what counsel meetings are for.  as for a bunch of guys on call, depending on the job it might need all of them. no one likes getting up in the middle of the night  to over time and  after working all day.
