The Five Lands, a pearl in the Italian Riviera...

After reading this great article about Liguria in Italy, I'd like to share with You what I know about Liguria, Especially the Cinque Terre (5 Lands).

Monterosso

[Monterosso - Credit Efan]

Cinque Terre is the name under which they will define a jagged stretch of coast of Ligurian Riviera placed in the territory of the Province of La Spezia.

They are five villages namely Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore.

The Cinque Terre, thanks to geographic features is a major tourist attractions of the Riviera in Liguria in general.

Indeed, the orographic context is special, a hilly territory harsh and bumpy course, softened by building terraces or bands for cultivation, which falls towards the sea with steep slopes.

Monterosso

[Vernazza - Credit Walking Italy Association]

There is only one-way to enjoy the best of the Cinque Terre...it's on foot. Indeed, on foot or by train or on foot and by boat.

The railway line Genoa-La Spezia stops in all countries of the coast and boats are regularly shuttling between La Spezia, Lerici, Portovenere, Levanto and Sestri Levante.

The area of the Cinque Terre is, in fact, crossed by a dense mesh of paths, including coastal, which reaches in five hours walk one country to another. The routes are many and all of important interest and cultural excursion.

Riomaggiore - Monterosso (Blue Route seafront) - The trail starts from the square of the railway station for the Way of Love to Manarola (30 min). The trail climbs up to 180 m above sea level and in view of Monterosso drops precipitately ending near the Municipality (2 hours).

Biassa (312 m) - Riomaggiore - The trail starts from the country next to the bus terminus and a slight climb between the forest of chestnut reach the hill of telegraph 516 m. From here constantly down the trail passes the resort Lemmen first and then from the Sanctuary of Montenero where with beautiful mule track reaches the village of Riomaggiore ends in the square where the railway station.

Monterosso - Punta Mesco 314 m. - The trail starts from the road opposite the railway station, along a stretch for passing over at Circolo Nautico, and begins to rise in the forest of pines with mule track that soon becomes a difficult steps that leads to summit promontory and ending where the Church of St. Anthony with grandiose landscape.

That was a tease. My Dad just got back from Italy & wasn't half as informative. Is traveling a hobby or career ? Too personal? Just curious, big interest of mine. Did you just get back?
