Yes Jer, very interesting, but I thought the interviewer got a little extreme towards the end.  I believe that most movies are simply imitating present day society, but personally I don't think that type of language is appealing or necessary at all.  Not that I don't swear, but taking God's name in vain is simply unnecessary.  Yet another reason I watch old movies like those on TCM!

Anyone who takes offense at such "blasphemy," while not necessarily in the wrong, are definitely in the minority, just look at the huge profits taken in by the industry as a whole. Seriously, don't people have better things to worry about? These are WORDS geez, not the most important thing in the world. Think about it, it's not the word that is bad, it's the meaning different people assign to it. Comparing the use of God's name in vain to using your mother's name as a cuss word really isn't valid because of the meaning people assign to the words that are used to reference one's mother is quite different than the meaning people assign to words that are used to reference God.

When the interviewer implies that Hollywood is anti-God, he is simply being ridiculous. That's like saying the US is anti-Muslim because we hold suspected terrorists (who are Muslim) at Guantanamo.

How many of those movies are rated PG-13 or R. People who REALLY have a problem with cussing and blasphemy are not going to go watch a movie that has a rating higher than PG. Do you really think that people who are so disturbed about blasphemy in the movies are going to go watch one's that include sex, violence, drug content, etc.? If they do they are hypocrites.

I mean seriously(and this is coming from a Christian woman)the whole thing is a joke.  Let's email these people and say Stop taking the Lord's name in vain and stop cussing, but we don't have a problem with anything else in your movies?????  It makes no sense to me.

I knew I would get somegreat feed back on this. In my view I believe there are some movies that seem to use God's name in vain just to say it and others use it because it represents the way people talk today. I did find it funny however that most people including those who responded here don't see a problem with blasphemy even if they are Christians who believe in the bible's words don't instruct believers not to use his name in vain, but have a problem with a family members name to be used that way.

Actually Jer72 I don't believe in taking the Lord's name in vain and I try hard not to. I have taught my children not to as well. I was just trying to make a point.

In my view I believe there are some movies that seem to use God's name in vain just to say it and others use it because it represents the way people talk today.

I do agree with this. I also HATE movies that use the F-word every other min. I can't sit through those movies.

Countygirl, I am the same way and when I do slip I askfor the Good Lord to forgive me for my slip. I have gotten much better about not use the Lord's name in vain but still need to work of the other cursing I have a bad habit of doing.

It's okay girls.  Sometime we let ourselves get upset and a curse word will suddenly come out.  I know that when I hit my shins on the footboard of my bed, I once said the S word.  Of course no one heard me, but I sure was mad about my shin.
