Do you know where Morris Park is in Tehachapi? If you don't I would not be surprised by the least. The funny thing is that you may have went by it many times and never reallized it was there.

Why?

Well over 2 years ago,  I was on the TVRPD Board of Directors and had been part of the group that designed and approved the park. We had a weekend communtiy planning and design meeting with city, county, school and TVRPD representives there. The Tehachapi Performing Art group had put in a request for a building to be place in the northeast corner, a hugh water recreation area in the northwest corner, bike path running around the edges, hugh field that would be great for the sports fans, and lots of nice pickining areas. The water district had already helped get water to the location and the local Trees for Tehachapi group had donated some trees for the park. One of the TVRPD board members told us about the history of the area and we all thought it would be great to put signs up telling of Tehachapi history along the bike path.

So why hasn't anything been done yet?

That in itself is kind of funny. You see curbs are the problem. TVRPD has requested many time to start leveling and seeding the area but have been told a number of times by the City Manger that they would have to put curbs and half of Pinon Rd in before any work can be started. Well like most government organizations, TVRPD can only do what limited money will allow. And like most park districts, TVRPD gets it's funds cut when the high level governments want the money for other services. In the TVRPD's case those higher level government are the Kern County Board of Supervisors and the City of Tehachapi.

So where is Morris Park suppose to be?

The 20 acre vacate land is right above the new high school across the current dirt road that will one day be Pinon Rd. If you want to see the Morris Park blueprint design that was created just go to the TVRPD district office.

This morning I woke up as normal and got dressed. Went to the computer to check the morning news and check my email. Then I heard the City Fire engine start up and leave their station as I live right behind the station. I didn't think much of it as I do some times heard them leaving on calls. However it sounded like they only went around the block without any sirens. Seconds later I was still hearing thier engine and some people talking so I looked out my front window to see what I could.

Well to my surprise I saw one of the city firefighter pulling oput a hose and connect it to the hydrate on the corner in front of my and wave to the driver to pull forward. At first I thought the house across the street had a fire in the back, but sadly the house in the keyhole down from my was in flames. By the time I got my shoes on and went out the door both city and county engines 12 were on sence. Within the next 20 minutes there were at least another 2 engines and the Battilon Chief there.

By the time I had to leave for work the flames were down but not out and I was able to see that the roof was basically a complete lost. All of this happened between 4:45 - 5:20am. It really goes to show that regardless how close you are to a fire station, your house can be gone before they arrive. From my point of view and what I heard, both the Coutny and city had a very quick response time.

I pray that on one was hurt and that the family will have some place to stay.
