Why delete other peoples blog comments????
I just wondered what the point of these blogs is.  I understand that we all have different views and I have seen some pretty heated discussions on this blog site.  I recently responded to one of the lengthy blogs, which by the way i dont usually read.  It was regarding the Killer Kern.  I was not disrespectful except when i told him maybe he needed to prop his eyes open (open his mind), which really isn't disrespectful...just my opinion.  Anyway, he deleted all of my comments and only kept the positive comments to his blog.  Why would anyone not allow others to voice their opinions, which by the way mine all had valid points.  Closed mindedness?  Hmmm.

Where would we be without it? We should all run for City Council on the grounds of Honesty and Sarcasm!! What a Combo!

Sam deleted my comment because he knows that I make a good point when I say that he is acting like the nanny government that he hates when he deletes the posts that he disagrees with the excuse that they are "personal attacks." I would think that someone who writes for a circulated publication would be used to some disagreement once in awhile, but apparently Sam is either too unconfident in his own beliefs to stand up for them in the face of a serious challenge or he is in denial about the fact that his opinion on warning signs might lean a bit too much toward absurdity. I believe his actions show him to be self-righeous, something any writer should avoid.

Jim's right - why does someone have the power to delete another's posts here? I've never seen such a thing. Just because they start the discussion doesn't mean they own it. I say, copy everything you write to Sammy & post it in your own blog. He can't delete those, can he?

I must say anyone who edits another person's writings has major control issues. Puts a whole new light on Sammy's stuff for me.

Oh yeah, maybe we should give City Council the ability to delete the ideas of any citizen that doesnt agree with them ( i am not referring to Tehachapi City council, just councils in general)

Personally, I find Sam's stuff entertaining even if  I disagree with some of what he writes and he takes way too long to get to his point.  He certainly writes well though. :)  I wasn't aware he was deleting peoples comments.  Has he written anything about censorship yet?  I wonder what his views on that are.  A simple solution is to make another blog, like "The Weedpatch Gazette Article Discussion" blog and use that to discuss.  I don't care enough to make the effort myself though! :)

The single time I tried to engage him in conversation about something he posted he gave a single line answer and that was that.  I don't see much point in writing and posting something if you have no interest in discussion about it.  Anyone can spew forth diatribes.

Hello all,

Just to clarify for everyone...

If someone starts a blog and puts a post on it, we try to go as far as we can to allow them ownership of the blog. That includes the ability to delete any comments they do not wish to appear on it. The Tehachapi News has been very open regarding this. We will only intervene when someone has violated our terms and services.

If you find that someone is repeatedly deleting your posts, you are free to make the choice to no longer visit their blogs or comment on them.

Finally, I would ask that you take a peek at the Ground Rules listed just under the "Leave a Comment" post...no personal attacks. Try to keep it civil in here.

We tried to comment on the subject itself but our comments were deleted

I'm referring to this blog post.

Feel free to debate the merits of having a blog where anyone can post anything versus a blog where the owner plays judge and jury all day...just stay away from personal attacks.

Editor...We weren't personally attacking anyone...To be more clear, would you define "personal attacks" for future reference?

posted by editor on Jun 29, 2007 at 04:44 PM
Sure. It becomes personal when the discussion has moved beyond the topic and instead starts on the person. As I mentioned before, talking about whether blogger should be deleting comments is fine, but when the discussion becomes about one person and not one idea, you're probably wobbling a little too close to the line.

I didn't say that anyone here was engaging in personal attacks. Most long-term posters are well aware that if we have an issue with a post, we don't pussyfoot around about it. I just noticed that a few comments were getting further from the subject at hand and more about a fellow blogger.

It looked like a good opportunity to make a gentle reminder about civility.
