Why delete other peoples blog comments????
I just wondered what the point of these blogs is. I understand that we all have different views and I have seen some pretty heated discussions on this blog site. I recently responded to one of the lengthy blogs, which by the way i dont usually read. It was regarding the Killer Kern. I was not disrespectful except when i told him maybe he needed to prop his eyes open (open his mind), which really isn't disrespectful...just my opinion. Anyway, he deleted all of my comments and only kept the positive comments to his blog. Why would anyone not allow others to voice their opinions, which by the way mine all had valid points. Closed mindedness? Hmmm.

Starbucks1, I just found this article by Arianna that I thought you'd be interested in reading. Kinda puts a new light on those bloggers comments, for me. I thought you were talking about regular bloggers' comments, not comments posted anonymously. http://www.huffingtonpost.c... Just in case you can't access the pertinent points: "HuffPost gets around 500,000 comments a month. These comments are anonymous and in no way represent my opinions, or the opinions of HuffPost or our bloggers. We have a zero-tolerance policy when it comes to abusive or hateful language or comments -- such comments are taken down as quickly as they come to the attention of our moderators. And we are constantly working to develop new technologies -- and backing them up with more and more 24/7 moderators -- which will allow us to more effectively filter out objectionable comments. But no system is perfect and offensive comments occasionally slip through -- on our site and any place else on the Internet that encourages a free and open exchange of ideas. Including the Fox News site." [...]
"Let me be as clear as possible. We find the kind of toxic comments O'Reilly [edited to add: and Starbucks1] is pointing out utterly repugnant and take them down. Period. But we refuse to let the vile actions of a miniscule number of anonymous, trouble-making trolls force us to shut down our comments section -- as many sites, including many conservatives sites, have done. We are committed to striking a balance between freedom of expression and freedom from a noxious atmosphere that ultimately discourages expression." So, does this response by Arianna herself make you feel just a teensy bit better? ;-)

gube, my suggestion about posting links & using quote marks was more for Starbucks1 benefit, not yours. You're getting better about posting links, dude! ;-) If you post an article, it's usually customary to add a few thoughts of your own. If someone calls you out about the article & it's linked to your post, then you should just point out to them that the article agrees with your POV & show your reasons why. I would assume that you've seen other sources which back up the article, so show those links too. If they then continue to ignore your reasoning & evidence for it, at least you've backed up your point & they can then be ignored or deleted. IMHO, it's just like math class. Show your work! ETA: One other point for you, gube. It's usually agreed in debates that the person making the positive assertion must provide documentation to back up their claim. Ever heard of the phrase, "It's impossible to prove a negative"? posted by

Gube Well, next time just be honest, say, "Nope I can't back up all my posts, but you are more than welcome to spend the time trying to disprove ALL of my posts... that would take them a while. LMAO posted by

oohchild I did post the site that I got the story from. What more did he expect ? Two people create brand new profiles and demand that I back up everything that I post, No ain't going to happen. Now if you or another established blogger asked me to back it up I would have most likely handled it differently. I am not going to take a brand new profile like that seriously. If they can prove that what I post is wrong then we well talk. I find it funny when someone tells me to remove a post like their the blog police. No ain't going to happen. posted by

oohchild, I could re-post here what I posted verbatum on sam's blog, but what would sparks say then?, probably thats not what I posted before, to again defend herself from what she said I posted, and I already posted links to where I got the comments from, Look, would I have made such a big deal about this if she had not personally attacked me and contiunally lied and chaged her story just to suit her?, C'mon, this is not right, first she says I cuss on alot of blogs, then she says I bully her, then lie after lie, after lie, read the thread of comments here, if she had real integrity, she would have stopped a long time ago with the lies and said she was wrong, but she kept digging a deeper hole to stand in, very strange indeed. sad for her that everyone here see a different side to her, hmm, Schizophrenia? posted by

Oohchild... hmmm you have made a very good point. Gube should back up his posts. Gube what are the hackers doing exactly? Are they merely debating your topic or are they just flipping out ads? See ,there are a lot of organizations that search the web for blogs that relate to issues they are interested in so that they can debate with you. If that is who these people are, this is your chance to get your point across while learning more about different views. Now if they are throwing ads on your blog then I still think you should delete them. NO ads.. (smile) posted by

gube, I think you should back up what you post if someone calls you on it, not delete their inquiry & then barrel merrily along. Otherwise, it looks like you're weak in your position & disinterested in the opinions of others. Or, it may seem you just want to post to see yourself in print (which is the feeling I get every time Sammy deletes a polite inquiry or challenge to one of his dubious positions.) Starbucks1, I second Sparks suggestion that you reprint what you posted on Sammy's blog over here. Did you include a link, so folks could verify what you copied? Did you use quote marks around the nasty messages, so folks knew they weren't your words? A lot of bloggers here neglect these two actions, and it confuses the reader. It also puts the TN at risk, since they could be held responsible for someone else's plagiarism. I think everyone should review the "Fair Use" laws. I know someone who was sued because he used the art from a cartoonist without acknowledgment on his website. He was very aware after that in fair use of copyrighted material & made sure everyone who posted on his site followed the rules. posted by

Sparks, you will not address the main point here, WHY YOU LIED ABOUT WHAT I POSTED, who cares what your opinon was of my post, thats not the point here so, you can dance around it all day if you like, but I clearly have not bullied you on anything, all I ever asked was why you keep lying and twisting what I said to attack me, it makes you look very confused here, I qoute you so many times here with your own words and you say I am bullying you, you say I was not clear on which statements were mine, and I was, you knew I was but for you to admit that would make you look even more foolish, all you have to do is tell the truth Sparks, and stop posting lies and saying I cuss on alot of blogs, bully you, and you will get more respect here, I think all this really calls your character into question.nobody like liars here. posted by

I won't apologize for thinking your post was tacky. You certainly were not clear on which statements were yours and which ones were the bloggers. Why don't you put your post here so everyone can see it Starbucks, you certainly don't mind posting content full of cuss words, do you? So do it again. And..Starbucks, don't bully me or try to manipulate me, control freaks irritate me to no end. That is not the way to make nice with me. You can call me all the names you want and go on and on and on...but my opinion of your post stands. I can be honest and say that I now believe you didn't cuss because I trust Countygirl's judgment of you. I don't know you as well as she does. But you still posted that crap and you are responsible for what you copy and paste here on this site. It was a bad move on your part in MY OPINION. There are more intelligent ways of getting your point across, and that's my opinion too. You really need to get over the fact that I didn't like your post. People have opinions and they won't always be the same as yours...getting upset every time someone disagrees with you can't be healthy. Whether they were your curse words or not... you POSTED it, and you were OK with the content you posted. I think it's tacky to cuss excessively in a public forum or to POST other people cussing excessively. There is no difference in who did the cussing...so either way my opinion of your post stands. That would be like me posting a picture of porn on this site and saying "but it wasn't me fornicating!" lol Now that I do know you better.. please have the last say. Let it rip Starbucks. That will be me being nice to you. (smile) goodbye....................... |
