COUNCIL MEETING FIREWORKS!
The City Council meeting of Sept. 17th. promises to produce a lot of fireworks with Councilmember Stan Beckham’s 3 Resolution proposals. They are listed as Item #17 on the Agenda and are: #1. Councilmember term limits. #2. Commission Appoinments. #3. Hiring Policies. It is the latter that addresses nepotism and cronyism in City hiring positions. This will be heated, for sure. Everyone who can put aside an hour or so should attend and participate. Council meetings are every 1st. and 3rd. Monday of the month at 6pm at the Veterans Hall on F. Street. I’ll be there! Will you? Hammer, I agree with you and will stand up and support these resolutions and hope you will do the same. It's HIGH TIME! #2. Will require all potential City job applicants to submit their resume and qualifications to the Council for review and approval of the Council members. As opposed to a "rubber stamp" process for one person who can do it alone. (I think you can read between the lines on this one.) Also, these applicants will NOT be placed on the Consent Agenda...and for the same reason. This will open up job opportunities on an equal basis for ALL interested people. I think this is another PLUS for The People! We need to show our City officials that we are involved and concerned and will stand up for what is right. Please urge everyone you know to attend this important meeting. Jim Richards posted by

The Veteran's Hall is next to the Police Department close to Green Street. (Somebody correct me if I am wrong and you know the exact address). And yes, children are not only allowed, but welcomed (at least by me) and it is a good Civics 101 lesson for them no matter what their age. I hope you can make it and bring your whole gang with you. You are NEEDED! Jim Richards posted by

Do you need to be a resident of the city to attend or contribute?

One does NOT have to be a City resident in order to either attend or stand up to speak. All you have to do is announce your name and town where you live. I've said this many times before...it behooves EVERYONE who lives within the greater Tehachapi area (all 30,000) to attend the City Hall meetings because whatever they vote on and decide will definitely affect EVERYONE! Since there are only a few of us Bloggers here we need to give this clue to all of our friends, relatives, neighbors, and co worker's to attend these meetings and get involved for their own sake's! For those of us who can't attend, can we count on you to continue to give us updates on this site? Jimr, I sure appreciate them.

I'll do my best Lori, but I'm afraid of leaving out something important. Better than depend on me, the meetings are now all audio recorded and available at no charge at City Hall. I think you have to send them a request via e-mail or phone and they send a fax for you to sign (or you can sign it when you go to pick it up) and then you can go down and pick it up. I told them the audio's I have received thus far are of EXTREMELY POOR AUDIO QUALITY and they "promised" to kick it up a notch! We'll see. Also, please urge everyone to take the current on line poll regarding changing the meeting days to Saturday morning or afternoon instead of Monday evening. The greater preponderance of voting thus far, is in favor of Saturdays. If this would inconvenience a few people but benefit a greater number than now, the numbers speak for themselves. When the poll has run its course, I will print it out and get it placed on a future agenda for them to vote . Two current Councilmembers have told me Saturdays would not be convenient for THEM. Who the hell cares? These meetings are for US! Remember, We The Electorate are at the head of the org chart. Jim Richards
