jimr - > TEHACHAPI SAFETY, SECURITY AND POLITICAL ISSUES -> IN DEFENSE OF TERM LIMITS!
IN DEFENSE OF TERM LIMITS!
Term limits establishes a Citizen Legislature.

The nation's Founders strongly believed in rotation in office. They left term limits out of the Constitution because they did not foresee that politics would become a career for so many people. Short term limits would remedy that mistake. Nothing is more important today than reversing the pernicious rise of a professional political class.

Councilmembers Hand, Grimes, Vernon and Smith disagree with the above. They found a HOME. That's why some of our nation's best and brightest people are shunning politics. We must not continue to allow that to happen.

I think you can add that the founding fathers also didn't think that people would just vote without knowing the issues, voting striaght line bullets, or because of their membership to a club or union.  They actually believe that the voting public would study the issues and not just reelect the same bad politicians back in.

Actually, the Founding Fathers didn't think that most people should be able to vote, period. Read the Constitution.

They also realized that the most important thing the folks who were able to vote needed was a free press. That's the only industry mentioned explicitly in the Constitution. Yesterday's sham vote against MoveOn.org would have had the Founding Fathers up in arms, literally. It was as close to government censorship as we can get, folks. Or, maybe not...

Article. I.

Section. 2.

The House of Representatives shall be composed of Members chosen every second Year by the People of the several States, and the Electors in each State shall have the Qualifications requisite for Electors of the most numerous Branch of the State Legislature.

The Senate however was not by vote until April 8, 1913 when AMENDMENT XVII was ratifed.

In this way the people were given the right to vote. Granted the vote was only for Representative but it was the peoples way of choosing their elected officials and to elect their electorals in the Presidental election.

Yes, very good. Now, did those "people of the several states" include anyone other than white men? The Founding Fathers basically thought that only white, wealthy land-owning men should be able to govern.
