SHAME ON NANCY PELOSI!
The "NEW" House of Representatives just announced the raising of the minimum wage in the United States and Territories to $7.50 per hour, but with ONE exception...American Samoa. Samoa is the home of Starkist Tuna and employes thousands of Samoans to work there. In turn, Samoa is owned by Del Monte Foods. Del Monte is based in San Francisco. The Congressperson who represents San Francisco is...... (drum roll, please)........Nancy Pelosi! And THIS is our NEW Congress in action! What scam will they pull on us next? Jimr, I saw the same report. It is totally two faced! She's basically saying the minimum wage is good for everybody but me! As I said in other blogs. Don't expect anything to change with this new congress. It's going to be more of the same just different people leading the pack. Democrat or Republican they are all still politicians.

he minimum wage rates for American Samoa are set by a special industry committee (http://www4.law.cornell.edu...>29 U.S.C. 205, 29 C.F.R. Part 511) appointed by the U.S. Department of Labor, as required by the Act. The rates are set for particular industries, not for an employee's particular occupation. The rates are minimum rates (http://www4.law.cornell.edu...>29 U.S.C. 206(a)(3)); an employer may choose to pay an employee at a rate higher than the rate(s) for its industry.

Now that I have calmed down and done some research on the matter, the truth is..... Despite the diversion caused the introduction of Bush's plan to increase the pace of disaster in Iraq, the newly-seated Democratic congress has stuck to its goal of turning out legislation vital to the American public. Democrats in the House have already produced ethics reform, adopted the recommendations of the 9/11 commission, raised the minimum wage, and authorized the government to negotiate Medicare drug prices. Friday, a bill was introduced that would move $13 billion now spent on oil subsidies, and move it to supporting renewable fuels. Primary credit for this steady stream of practical, necessary legislation goes to Speaker Pelosi, who laid out the plan in advance, and who has refused to be sidetracked. Good job Pelosi, keep up the good work!!! posted by
