RESPONSE TO CALLENBY
Laura Schlessinger is a US radio personality who disperses advice to people who  call  in  to  her  radio show.  She stirred up controversy when she aired her remarks that as an observant Orthodox Jew,  homosexuality  is  an abomination according to Leviticus 18:22 and cannot be condoned in any circumstances.

The following is an open letter to Dr. Laura penned by a US resident which
made it's rounds on the internet....

Dear Dr. Laura,

Thank you for doing so much to educate people regarding God's Law.  I have learned a great deal from your show,  and  I  try to share that knowledge with as many people as I can.

When someone tries to defend the homosexual lifestyle,  for example,  I just simply remind them that
Leviticus 18:22
clearly  states  it  to be an abomination.
End of debate.

I do need some advice from you, however, regarding some of the specific laws and how to follow them.

a)  When I burn a  bull  on the altar as a sacrifice,  I know it creates a pleasing odor for the Lord
Leviticus 1:19
.   The problem is my neighbors.   They claim the odor is not pleasing to them.  Should I smite them?

  b)
I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7.
In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her?

  c)
I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her period of  menstrual uncleanness Leviticus 15:19-24.   The problem is,  how do I tell?  I have tried asking, but most women take offense.

  d)  Leviticus 25:44
states  that  I  may  indeed  possess  slaves, both male and female,  provided they are purchased from neighboring nations.   A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians.  Can you clarify?  Why can't I own Canadians?

  e)
I  have a  neighbor  who  insists  on  working  on the Sabbath.  Exodus 35:2 clearly states he should be put  to  death.  Am  I  morally  obligated  to  kill  him myself?

  f)
A friend of mine feels that though eating shellfish is an abomination Leviticus 11:10,  it  is  a  lesser  abomination than homosexuality.  I don't agree.  Can you settle this?

  g)  Leviticus 21:20
states that I may  not  approach  the  altar  of God if I have a defect in my sight.  I have to admit that I wear reading glasses.   Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle room here?

  h)
Most  of my male friends get their hair trimmed,  including  the  hair  around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden  by  Leviticus 19:27.  How should they die?

  i)
I know from Leviticus 11:68 that touching the skin of a dead  pig  makes  me unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves?

  j)
My uncle has a farm.  He violates  Leviticus 19:19  by  planting  two different crops in the same field,  as does his  wife  by  wearing  garments  made  of  two different kinds of thread (cotton/polyester blend).  He  also  tends  to  curse  and blaspheme a lot.  Is it really necessary that we go to all the trouble of getting the whole  town  together  to  stone  them? Leviticus 24:10-16  Couldn't we just burn them to death at a private family affair like we do with people who sleep with their in-laws? Leviticus 20:14

I know you have studied these things extensively, so I am confident you can help. Thank you again for reminding us God's word is eternal and unchanging.

Your devoted disciple and adoring fan,

 Jim

A very appropriate response :)  We can't pick and choose...

The hateful statement that callenby posted on his blog was nothing more than an excuse for bigotry in the name of God.  He should be ashamed of himself.  The Christians on this site that responded to him were upset, as well they should have been.  I was almost in tears myself.  I'm so tired of the bigotry, it causes a lot of people pain. Callenby used the Bible to back up his hatred for gays.  The Christians on this blog didn't like his abuse of the Bible.

I always thought most Christians were wolves in sheep's clothing.  They seemed very kind, but when it came to loving thy neighbor in reality, the wolf in them would come out.

I have a different opinion today.   Countygirl, was a big shock to me, I think she generally cares about my (gay) nephew and his welfare. Look, at jmr, we hardly ever agree on political issues, but here he is, making me understand the reality of the Bible which is helping me.  I wasn't a big fan of the Bible before, but now that I know I don't have to sell my daughter, or kill my brother, I may read it again.   I learned something from Jmr.  You don't ever really know anyone until you need them, and if they show up to help, they aren't wolves.

I think "smite" might be one of my favorite words.  I love the sound of it.  Kind of like "fork".

People who interpret the bible for their own twisted purposes are not people of God.  They are people who think they ARE
GOD and will most likely be sent to the loony bin to spend the rest of their lives on earth.  When they do die and leave
this earth I hope they will come face to face with God, and he will hand out a punishment for people who like to "play God".
Christians have no instruction from the bible to condemn other people no matter what their sin.  We are humans, and
we all have flaws.   I think God wants us to embrace each other and all of our differences.
It's time for people to really think about what is important in this life, and I doubt criticism and hatred has anything to do with it.

You're right Olivia.

I read his/her wedding dance blog, but I am not going to bother with a response. He/she is a fanatic, like jim. I feel sorry for Callenby's family if there is one. Some fanatics becomer serial killers. His dance blog was posted at 4:00 a.m. hmmmmm, most serial killers don't sleep. LOL!!!!

I wonder what he/she thinks of the one couple's first dance to that song about big butts?  :O
