jimr - > TEHACHAPI SAFETY, SECURITY AND POLITICAL ISSUES -> THE REAL COST OF ILLEGALS!
THE REAL COST OF ILLEGALS!
Through their citizen children, illegal immigrants in Los Angeles County collect $420 million annually in welfare and food stamps, according to a report requested by 5th District County Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich.

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Social Services told the supervisor that payments to illegal immigrants' children amount to approximately 24% of the county's combined CalWORKS and food stamps budget, officials said.

"What we found was kind of astonishing," said Tony Bell, an Antonovich aide.

Each month, the county doles out $77 million in CalWORKS assistance, $20 million of which goes to the citizen dependent children of illegal immigrants, said Helen Berberian, another Antonovich aide. CalWORKS is the state's welfare-to-work program.

Along with CalWORKS assistance, the county approves $70 million every month in food stamps, with $15 million going to legal children of illegal immigrants, Berberian said.

The welfare payments go to nearly 100,000 children of 60,000 illegal immigrants, Antonovich's staff said. His staff estimated that Los Angeles County has almost 12% of the United States' illegal immigrant population.

The welfare payments are just a portion of the impact from illegal immigrants and their children, Antonovich said.

"Illegal immigration continues to have a devastating impact on Los Angeles County taxpayers," Antonovich said in a statement. "When the nearly one-half billion dollars spent on health care is added to the costs of public safety and health care, this brings the total cost to nearly $1 billion a year. This does not include the skyrocketing cost of education."

According to Antonovich's office, illegal immigrants annually cost the county $360 million in health care and $220 million in incarceration costs.

Antonovich has spoken to Congress several times about ways to mitigate the country's illegal immigration problem, including the repeal of at least part of the 14th Amendment.

"We would like to see the repeal of the amendment giving citizenship to children born in the U.S.," Bell said. "The purpose was to ensure that freed slaves were granted citizenship to rectify the evils of slavery, not to provide illegal immigrants with a legal way into our country through childbirth."

State Sen. George Runner said such a move "is a very worthy issue to be addressed."

"Just because you are born here, does it automatically give you the right to citizenship?" Runner said. "I think it's worth of having the discussion."

Antonovich also has proposed a bonded guest worker program.

"Bonded guest workers would have a bond to cover costs incurred while working in the United States," Bell said.

Those bonds would cover health care and other major expenses, Bell said, adding that many illegal immigrants come to California because they can get free medical care.

Bell said Antonovich will continue to work with state and federal leaders. Runner said that might be all the supervisor can do, as he is outnumbered by his fellow supervisors.

"With health insurance, I know L.A. County does go ahead and pay beyond what the state would pay," Runner said. "I know Mike opposes that, but the problem is, he's like me in that he has a majority on his board that is willing to pay out those benefits."

Ugh this makes me ill.  Here's another "cost" of illegal immigration:

www.eonline.com/news/article/index.jsp

And the drunk driver was not only illegal but driving a shiny new 2007 GMC Yukon.  There's where the CalWORKS and food stamp money are going.  Nice. :(

When are our politicians going to finally do something about this?!

Wow, there are so many things wrong with this story.  Two people KILLED, driver drunk, illegal, without license, without insurance, pleads not guilty.  A previous story also said the vehicle was registered in the illegal's name.  HOW????  Mind boggling.  This story should be the poster story for both drunk driving AND illegal immigration.  The article says that after the legal system is done with him, he'll be turned over to ICE.  Great, that means that we'll be paying for him to be in jail here for up to twelve years before he gets sent back.  He's already been on a two year probation for some other sexual misconduct type of offense from 2005.

I've read many blogs from around the country regarding this issue, and illegal immigration in general.  By a very wide margin, the great majority of people's comments describe frustration and anger over failed immigration policy.  Obviously politicians aren't listening to the majority of what the legal citizens want.

We have GOT to hold the politicians feet to the fire. Sound off to them. Write letters to the Editor; get others to join you. We have got to take back our own country before the politicians give it ALL away. They are getting closer to doing that every day. That judge who let the illegal go free when he should have had his sorry a** in jail, should be impeached or re-called, or better yet, put in the cell next to this guy!

Here's a guy who is the 2nd. richest man in the world. He is Mexican and lives in Mexico. He could hire every single Mexican who wants to come into this country as an illegal...and he could pay them a decent wage as well. Both he and the Mexican government are too corrupt and greedy to allow that to happen. They want to export all their poor and uneducated to this country so WE can support and educate them, one way or another!

A Mexican telecoms tycoon has become the second richest man in the world, pushing US investment guru Warren Buffett into third place and breathing down the neck of Microsoft founder Bill Gates.

Carlos Slim Helu quietly slipped past Buffett at the end of last month thanks to his rising stock, and was valued at the close of trade Wednesday at 53.1 billion dollars, 700 million dollars more than Buffett, Forbes.com reported Wednesday.

Now only Gates, valued as the richest man in the world for the last 13 years, is ahead of Slim.

And while slim may be catching up, Gates, who stepped aside as Microsoft chief in 2000 to devote his energies to the philanthropic foundation he runs with his wife Melinda, is still sitting on a nest egg of 56 billion dollars.

Slim, 67, has added a staggering 23 billion dollars to his personal fortune over the last 14 months, thanks largely to a strong Mexican economy and a stock market that jumped nearly 50 percent last year.

He accrued four billion dollars of that just since Forbes unveiled its annual rich list in early March, giving Slim the equivalent of roughly seven percent of Mexico's annual economic output, according to Forbes.

IF WE AS CITIZENS OF THE USA DON'T STAND UP AND DO ANYTHING ABOUT THIS SITUATION, THEN WE CAN ONLY BLAME OURSELVES FOR DESTRUCTION OF OUR COUNTRY.  THE PRESIDENT APPARENTLY DOES CARE ENOUGH TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT THE ISSUE. WE ARE SPENDING MORE $$ FEEDING THEM AND DEPORTING THEM ETC; THEN IT WOULD COST TO CLOSE THE BORDERS. MEXICO HAS MORE LAWS THEN THE USA WHEN IT COMES TO CITIZENSHIP. THIS COUNTRY IS LOSING THE BATTLE BECAUSE PEOPLE JUST DON'T STAND UP FOR WHAT THEY BELIEVE IN.  I THINK THAT PEOPLE THINK THE PROBLEM WILL RESOLVE ITSELF; OR THEY FEEL BAD THAT WE HAVE TO GO THROUGH SUCH EXTREMES. I DON'T FEEL SORRY FOR THE ILLEGALS ONE BIT... WHY? BECAUSE THEY ARE ILLEGAL! THAT MEANS THEY DO NOT BELONG HERE. PEOPLE SAY "THEY COME HERE FOR A BETTER LIFE". WELL, IF THEY SPENT AS MUCH TIME BETTERING THERE OWN COUNTRY AS THEY DO TRYING TO GET INTO OURS; THEN MAYBE THINGS IN MEXICO WOULD BRIGHTEN UP SOME FUTURES. IF THE PUBLIC KEEPS SITTING ON THERE RUMPS, THEN THE PROBLEM WILL WORSEN AND OUR CHILDREN AND THEIR CHILDREN WILL BE THE ONES WHO PAY THE CONSEQUENCES. THEY MIGHT NOT EVEN HAVE MEDICARE OR SS WHEN THEY REACH THEIR RETIREMENT. (THAT'S SAD). PLUS  EMPLOYERS WOULD PROBABLY REQUIRE US TO BE BILINGUAL. WELL, IF I WENT TO ANOTHER COUNTRY, I WOULD MAKE SURE I SPOKE THEIR LANGUAGE; NOT THEY NEED TO LEARN TO SPEAK MINE. THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT IS HAPPENING RIGHT BEFORE OUR EYES. WE OUR CONFORMING TO THEIR WAYS; MAKING IT EASIER FOR THEM TO CONTROL US. IT IS WRONG. THEY ARE ILLEGAL; WHAT MORE DO I NEED TO SAY?

IF EVERYONE WOULD JUST DO SOMETHING, THEN WE WOULD MORE THAN LIKELY HELP TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM.

Well, I've already put my 2 cents in on this one on a prior post. I agree, and maybe we should all write to our President and representatives. That would be a good start.

Maybe we should organize a protest march where we all march down the streets  near the Federal Building with the American Flag. That would get  some attention. Anybody game? It would take a few weeks to organize and email people to show up, but it is doable.

Illegals are ruining our country! We need to stand up and fight.Build the fence and ship them home to Mexico or where ever they came from. They are Illegal and must be stopped at all cost.Call your congressman or your senator and tell them that its them or the illegal, they must go. Vote them out of office if they don't get rid of the illegals. Now is the time. Stand up and be heard.
