Kids Just Wanna Have Fun

Has anyone ever thought about opening up something for kids to do around Tehachapi? What about a bowling alley (w/o driving to Stallion Springs) or a miniature golf establishment?  Adults and entire families could also benefit from these businesses too.

My husband and I were talking about this over breakfast. Wouldn't it be great if there was some sort of arena that had maybe bowling/roller skating/ things like that. I'm sure many people aside from the kids would utalize such an establishment. I have a feeling we'll see a super walmart long before we see anything like that though, but it would be nice.

The City of Tehachapi has allowed the developers to stomp all over the community.  They came in and built lots of houses to attract families, then did nothing to help the community infrastructure. If the city had a clue as to what a master planned community was and a 10 year vision, they could of asked the developers what will you offer the community if you build homes here.  A fund for a Boys/Girls Club could have been established, and the developer with the best community donation should have been allowed to build.  Some communities have had community/youth centers/pools built by developers at no cost to the city or taxpayers.  But now we are stuck with a growing community, and soon will have a large low income housing complex that will attract more families, and little or nothing for the kids to do.  And will the city council require the low income housing unit to put in and maintain a playground and contribute to a Boys/Girls Club?  Nope, and now we will have even more children with no place to play or go.

Have you guys ever gone to the place in palmdale with the miniature golf, arcade, go carts, etc.? I took my kids there a couple of weeks ago and that place is awesome. We had a blast! We need something like that in Tehachapi so bad. It doesn't have to be that elaborate but anything would be better than nothing new at all. And I agree with awsmom8 - the city has allowed an awful lot of development with very little contribution to what kids can do if they aren't interested in team sports and/or don't necessarily have tons of money to blow. How about enticing something into town that might benefit the local children?

Mimi...hey girl....it's good to see you blogging again!  It's funny you mentioning the miniature golf place in Palmdale.  A friend of mine was just telling me to go there with the girls.  I too agree with awsmom, we need something here in Tehachapi for the kids.  We have enough housing Tehachapi...now what do the people and their children who live here do?

What ever happened to all the youth organizations that I belonged to, as a kid? All of us girls were either in Blue Birds then Camp Fire Girls, or Girl Scouts. When I  got older, I joined Jobies; but there was also Rainbow Girls and DeMolay for the boys.

I learned a lot from being part of a group. What do kids do these days, besides sports? We learned a bunch of other stuff besides just sports.

Oohchild, me too I was a brownie... lol    The boyscouts won't allow non-believers or gay children in their group anymore... are the Girl Scouts the same way now?   ...it so, we need a non-bigoted children's group for Tehachapi.  A group that loves all children.

I was a Girl Scout leader a few years ago and the paperwork and rules were an unbelievable nightmare!  To go on a field trip in Tehachapi  the paperwork had to be submitted at lest 3 weeks in advance.  Any parent driving any of the girls had to have a $35 background check and fingerprints every year.  You could take the troop camping near a lake or the beach but had to have a certified life guard with you.  You could go to Woodward but no one was allowed on the trampolines......so I am no longer a leader! I'm not that anal!

Awsmom - I was kind of disheartened about girl scouts when I got into it too. My daughter was a daisy and that year was good. Then I got a little more into it the next year and I was shocked at the paperwork. Why should it be so difficult to have your child participate in an activity such as girl scouts? I know they are trying to cover their butts, but this is a little extreme. I don't even think daycare workers have to have background checks and fingerprinting! I also had some issues even getting ahold of a leader here in Tehachapi to get my daughter placed in a troop, i.e. someone wasn't returning my calls. It's sad that you have a daughter so excited to do something, yet you have to go through so much BS to even get into it that you question if it's even worth it.
