Should Tehachapi annex to Lancaster?
I don't know about anyone else but, I think we should look into annexing our city to Lancaster. Why? Because it's like our sister city- twin sister. They have a strip mall on practically every corner. We are getting close to having one on every corner. They have matching 2-story houses popping up everywhere, so do we. They have their big box stores, We have one and more planned. They tear down perfectly good buildings to build bigger ones, I'm sure we will start doing that soon. They annexed the State prison to the City, So did we. They have their own big fire department, we are going too soon (oh wait, they aren't as smart as we are, they still contract with the county for their fire and police protection). What do you think we should do? 15 comments from 9 users

A WAY overblown exaggeration of Tehachapi as compared to Lancaster. Because we have one big box store that makes us ugly? Oh god...

Why couldn't the City have some type of design ordinance? They could have had those two story homes spread out a little and had them look less like cookie cutter homes. I for one moved away from the big city years ago. Now the big city has moved with me. If we annexed to Lancaster would we get to keep our County Fire Department like they did? Where are we going to get all the water and sewer for all these people? The City is not making it with the water and growth we have now. I don't think its to much ask to have some planed growth. ( Not saying stop all growth, just do your job and do it right)

BoondockSaint what happened to small town life is that it got overpopulated. That's what happened. Absolutely, have a large family if you like, but then do not complain about our small town and it's growth. I never said you should only have two children, don't put words into my mouth. I'm just stating facts. A decrease in population here in America would mean less money for large corporations and small business alike, thus I don't see a decrease in population happening anytime soon. Hopefully, you will teach your children to love and take care of our planet, so that's their children can enjoy a future. It's amazing to me that you blame the liberals for all the problems in Tehachapi. Who are the leaders of our city, liberals or conservatives? Who owns the materialistic things here in Tehachapi, the conservatives or the liberals? Who is building all the new homes in Tehachapi? Can you really blame everything on liberals??? The youth of America today are 67% liberal voters, which means at least one of your children will be a liberal by the age of 18 years old. You can teach your children your beliefs, but if you think they won't grow up to have their own individual thoughts, you are in for a surprise. Will you kick your children out of your house if they are liberals? Will you disown your child if one is born gay? Sure you fight for the rights of all unborn children, but you won't fight for the rights for children if they don't believe as you do. Will your hate for liberals, or people who have different opinions than you make you hate your own children? I respect your beliefs and your opinion, however to blame and hate many in the world because their beliefs and opinions are different than yours seems nonspiritual to me at that very least. There are good and bad in ALL people. I have many friends here on this blog that are conservatives that are extremely good and loving people. I can say the same for many liberals as well. Sadly there are also HATERS on both sides... these are the scary people, these are the people who will try and force their beliefs on others and they will HATE people who do not agree with them or do not live up to their standards. My family has all races, we are straight and gay, religious and atheist. The only time we get upset with each other is when one tries to FORCE his/her beliefs on another. We are diverse and compassionate, and we respect each other. THAT is what love and spirituality is all about. I love my family and my friends.. ALL of them. I don't care if you are pro choice or pro life, I don't care if you are a conservative or a liberal, but please don't condemn me for my beliefs and opinions... this makes you a hater. A sad life to live, haters are probably the most miserable people on earth.

No one wants to stop the growth of Tehachapi. All we want is for the City Leaders to do some better planing. We could have a City of Tehachapi architectural / design committee to make sure that new development in Tehachapi is nice and not a burden on are city. We can still get bigger without loosing our small town feel.

aero NO silly not only conservatives have materialistic things. The point is we ALL have materialistic things, I happen to have 3 vehicles and more crap than I will ever need. True, I know more liberals that have money, then do conservatives, BUT we ALL have materialistic things. The point was not to hatefully blame one side or the other.
anonymous, ah I see. Well I am all for that. So far I think Tehachapi has done a good job!!! posted by

The reason that so many young people are liberals is because they have been brought up in a society of convienice and no consequences. They want to feel all warm and fuzzy about their decisions. The younger generation is lazy, many of these kids don't know what an honest day work is, they think flipping a burger for 8 hours then going home to play playstation is the way that life is. In the old days people learned trades, people knew how to work on their own cars and houses, they worked hard, family was the priority. Now a days, people have no skills, no common sense, they have no idea on what a hard days work is, and family takes a back seat to fancy cars and other toys. As far as my kids being liberals it will never happen. You know why, because kids brought up with the right morals and ideals tend to stick to them. If you bring them up with a strong sense of family, faith, hard work, honesty and integrity, they will grow up right. That is the way that I was raised and that is the way that I will raise my children. And not to be confused with the reference to the young people, I am 29 years old, but I grew up a whole lot different than kids now days. posted by

I heard that the blatant robbery of Circle K recently was done as a "statement" by a gang member, a very dangerous gang. This concerns me. I've been told that many people that have moved to Tehachapi in the last 2 years are disillusioned because there's "nothing to do". The employment situation is still difficult. There are not enough positions that pay wages sufficient to support the lifestyles the new homeowners want to have. As the gasoline prices have increased the concept of commuting to work "off the mountain" is making these folks reconsider their choices to move here. How much complaining would happen if there were a true moratorium on new construction in Tehachapi? ...or a mandated building style? I admire the efforts the city has made to require rocks on the facades of our big box stores. I am truly pleased with all the improvements the city has made to the appearance of downtown. And what about the fact that they put up windmills to power the sewer treatment plant, which I'm told is fairly advanced for the size the city was when it was built. It's easy to complain, but how about coming up with some good ideas of your own to improve our town. I've always felt that the city has been very responsive to my requests and ideas. What changes have you suggested to the council? They (our elected officials) are ultimately working for us. Act like their bosses. Stand up in the council meetings and tell them what you do and do not like.

I think it is the other way around it is people like you sparks who make conservatives look better. I like how you call people who don't agree with you haters, that is a liberal view. I guess with your views we should be a liberal country like China that has a one child policy to prevent overpopulation, and now look where they are they have an overabundance of males now, where are they going to be when they don't have enough women to actually have enough children to sustain themselves. In your post you say that you have 3 cars and more crap than you will ever need. Just like a liberal hoard as much as you can, have as much materialistic things you can to add to your so called esteem, and complain about everyone else. posted by

Just wanted to tell you that I think you wrote a very nice post. Some people only want to point out the problems and complain, but there is plenty of good here if people just decide that they want to see it. posted by

Does that picture of BoondockSaint1 show two guys lighting cigarettes? I think so. Interesting statement. I'm new here to the blog so I might not understand an individual who would put forth that image.
