Volunteers being fired???
I was very shocked to hear about what recently happened to a local woman. This lady is a volunteer for the hospital guild, or should I say was. Last week I was appalled to hear that she had been fired from her volunteer position...a position that she was doing for free, on her time, because she wanted to help at the local hospital. Now first of all I have never heard of a volunteer being fired, and I have to wonder why an organization that is admittedly short of volunteers (gee I wonder why) would fire one of their own. The most shocking thing of all is the reason she was "fired". This lady's sin was taking 2 weeks off to fly out of state to be with her 2 yr old granddaughter who was having major stomach surgery. Yes, how dare this women have the audacity to care about her young grandchild...how dare she take 2 weeks off from a job she does for FREE. When the woman who decided to "fire" her told her, she told her she had taken 4 weeks off...I'm not sure how good an idea it is for someone who can't count to be answering the telephone and transferring important calls throughout the hospital. Anyone who has ever called the hospital in the morning hours should know exactly what I mean. In my opinion the community should be very concerned about many things that are occuring at the local hospital. I believe most would be absolutely dumbfounded. I would encourage you all to attend the hospital board meetings and learn more about what is going on. 5 comments from 5 users

My doctor is on the board and we talked about the hospital and its image. Everyone knows that you don't go to the Tehachapi hospital if you have a life or death emergence. Your better off driving to Bakersfield or LA. Your chances of making it at the local hospital are slim. I try and avoid the hospital if I can. If the hospital can't find any compassion in there heart for this women and here problem then I don't believe anyone should buy anything from them. It may be a mean way to go about it but if that it the only thing they will understand then that is what needs to be done.

Attend the Board meetings? Hey, it's the community who elected all hospital doctors as the majority of the hospital board. Do you really expect a board of doctors, who ALL have special interests in the hospital affairs, to do anything about what you have posted? I truly doubt they can, or will, do anything. However, regarding volunteers and being fired, I have heard of several organizations where any volunteers must comply with whatever policies the organizations have in order for their services to be used. So, IF the organizations (Guild's) policies were not being complied with, then separation from participation might not be surprizing. Volunteering for an organization does not mean, or guarantee, that your services will be utilized. Now, on theother hand, if there were no policy violations, that would be another story. I doubt we really have both complete sides of the story, but you never know. posted by

anonymous...interestingly enough after I posted this blog the person who had done the "firing" changed her phrasing to "we might have to let you go" so we shall see what happens. Also, I was originally against the doctor's being elected to the board BUT I have seen that the new board members actually seem to be more concerned about all the bullshit that has been going on at the hospital lately and are taking steps to put a stop to some things that are going on that are not right or legal. Time will only tell. posted by

So, the people who are now in charge of the hospital tell people to stay away from it. Would you be as accepting if the leaders of Ford told the public not to buy Fords? Doesn't this sound odd to anyone? The Guild is separate from the hospital. Do not lump them together; it only confuses the issue. I think the suggestion to attend the monthly Board of Directors meetings is an excellent idea. You won't hear what's really going on otherwise. posted by

You still wont hear what is going on due to all the hush hush going on inside. The hospital is full of greedy self centered egotistical people. It needs a new staff to go along with the new hospital.
