Where am I going with this?
I think more of my blog will be bitching than anything, but I can have some good things to say at times...

OK, what are they doing downtown?
I know the City is just trying to improve our streets and make things better, but why does it feel like they are just roaming from corner to corner, street to street, making more messes? I have to drive through that crap to and from work every day, as I'm sure many of you do. I don't know a whole lot about how this sort of "improvement" should be done, but I would think, just based on common sense, you could work on one street corner, finish it and move on to another one, rather than leaving various cones, tape, potholes, mud holes, dirt piles, asphalt piles for us to drive through, around and over. I can't imagine what a horrible mess this is going to be through Mountain Festival weekend. The streets are bad enough then without all this kind of confusion. Why did the City schedule this kind of project to coincide not only with the Mountain Festival, but also the beginning of the school year? Will the mess and blinking stoplight on Curry still be there on Aug. 21 when school goes back into session? I can just see the traffic backing up now...

I know, Jeremy!! Everytime I see someone on a motorcyle driving through there, I feel awful for them. And what is the option? Not going through town at all. Can you imagine how that must be hurting our downtown businesses? If they drag this out any longer, I imagine there will be a few less.

As part of a downtown business, I can attest to the frustration, mess and confusion - HOWEVER, I think the contruction people have finally either reached a cleaner stage of the job or have gotten their act together and are keeping the area cleaned and clear of construction junk.  We are hanging in by our fingernails - hoping that at least our local citizens will continue to stop in and shop (since the tourists are just passing us by) - and know that on November 1st - the deadline for the project - we will have a spectacular downtown.  It's going to be warm, and welcoming as only Tehachapi can be!   So don't complain - get in your car, go downtown and patronize those hurting businesses!!!

Ok, and to add to this, since it's getting down to the wire, isn't the car & bike show supposed to be on the downtown streets? Are all the entrants going to have to drive their beautiful cars and bikes through our downtown mudpit? I would like to be able to enjoy the carshow without fear of losing one of my children in the various holes dug throughout the downtown area. I can't believe what a mess it is!
