Opening Day....???
Does anyone know what stores are coming into town and when? I keep seeing new buildings pop up, but I haven't heard what is going in there.

Thanks guys....... I would love to have a Chilies here. All we need is a Target (instead of a Walmart), and we'd be set!

How about a "Trader Joe's"? And/or a "Panda Chinese Take-Out"? Maybe even "IHOP"? Woof!

What kind of businesses would you like to see in the downtown area? What would make you want to drive in, get out and walk around [and spend $] in the newly renovated downtown area?

Downtown would be a great place for that Starbucks. As long as they build it facing the wrong way, to keep with the rest of Tehachapi. lol  Anything with a slower place, make downtown a place to hang out.

Why has the City approved 3 new mexican food restaurants up here, but not one other type of food? We have 4 nice mexican food places already. Are they trying to put them out of business?

All I can say is how cool it was to be able to walk into Home Depot last night, go shopping and walk out of that building without having to make a 45 minute drive home. Yay!! Thanks to all who made that store possible and for making one person's life just a little bit easier. :)

Frankly, in one person's opinion, I feel that Downtown Tehachapi area already has too many "quaint gift shops". When I have visitors, they ask to go shopping in the area and we go from one shop to the other, and they all look the same. We need diversity of retail shopping to make Downtown worth visiting and hanging around. Where people WALK and not just drive through. More restaurants (NO, no more Mexican one's, please). An In 'N Out Burger would be swell. Even a Red Lobster,  a Chinese Restaurant or a nice Delicatessen (Italian or Jewish could make me drool). How about a bakery where you could smell the bread and goodies from a block away? And outside seating where people could rest and just people watch. This would give them time to visit many different places and be fed and rested and refreshed enough to continue shopping! It's called a "self fullfilling prophecy!"

Hey!

Wouldn't it be nice to be able to DO something? Maybe minature golf or something fun that is family oriented?! I know that my kids aren't interested in looking at paintings or nic-naks. Maybe a bigger theater/arcade or ANYTHING else? Let's get over building restaurants and galleries. What happened to fun?

I completely agree with "gilejc". A safe place that young kids can go and play with their friends would be awesome. How about a huge arcade with pool tables and pinball games for the parents and cool games and music for the kids. Even indoor rock climbing walls, and a place indoor to eat and rest after having all that fun. I think that would be a pleasent addition for Tehachapi kids! :)

Why cant we get like group like the Boys and Girls club to come to Tehachapi. What about PAL- Police Activities League? It would be great to have something for all the boys and girls to do here. "msjanell" I like your idea for the indoor rock climbing walls. Its funny because driving by BENZ sanitation the other day I saw some portable ones outside just wasting away. You would think with more and more people coming into town there would be something starting up, but it isnt. Its sad. The kids needs a true activity center thats appealing for all young and old that promotes learning and friendship in a safe enviroment. All these industries in town could probably come up with something to give for a good cause.

I heard a bowling alley was going to be built next to Albertson's - but wasn't there one in town before? How about using the old school for activities? Maybe paintball, basketball, pool/darts, workshop activities like wood/auto and not just for kids, how about the seniors?  What we really need is for several of the larger businesses in town to sponsor these type of things to help keep the costs down for the users. Maybe the newspaper could put a survey in their next issue and see what folks do want and would support.
