What a surprise!! Another complaint/Question....From Me!!
This is just one of those questions that popped into my brain on the way home this evening... Who are the mysterious people who litter my drive way with rolled up sales papers? I'm assuming they are sales papers because they remind me of the annoying solicitors who call you all day looong. I have never opened one. They seem to multiply overnight. I pick them up, put them in the trash and the next day there are 3 more! What gives. If I ever open one, I'm pretty sure I would find out where they are coming from and if I do find out, would a call to them... telling them to stop littering do any good? On our way from dinner tonight, I noticed a neighbors driveway had 5 of them laying there. This is not something we have asked for and I think its a nuisance. What gives??? Does anyone else see this as a problem or have you been able to cease the problem? 11 comments from 9 users

AAHH gube, youso crassze! No kidding, those junk papers are so thin, you think, this can't be important. We don't have that problem here, now that I think about it , it's surprising since we're right in town. I don't know Olivia, I don't think calling would help, depends on who drops them off, I'd tell THAT person the next time they throw that rag in my yard, they'll leave w/ a broken arm! My DIL was trying to get her housekeeping company going - she put flyers on cars in the KMart parking lot. Our favorite code enforcer called her and told her there was an ordinance that prohibited the placing of flyers on vehicles in Tehachapi. He told her he would not ticket her if she came back and picked up all her flyers. So she did. No, she never "tossed" anything on peoples' driveways. I guess this ordinance doesn't apply to private homes? I'd be picking them up and calling the companies...then I'd start pestering the city. lol, where I live, no flyers ever appear. I still get junk mail - and whenever there is postage paid envelope included, I stuff crap in it and mail it back...and phone calls - the Do Not Call List has been working for us... posted by

Here is the part of the Tehachapi code that deals with the distribution of handbills. It does state that you can not place them on cars or on personal/public property without the person being a subscriber on say handbill. Definition in the code states: "A. “Handbill” means and includes any printed or written advertising matter, any sample or device, dodger, circular, leaflet, pamphlet, newspaper, paper, booklet, or any other printed matter or literature." Here is the complete code link. http://municipalcodes.lexis... posted by

I live in GH so I take it the county must not have municipal codes not allowing ''handbills''...........until then I'll keep tossing the junk newspapers into the middle of the street................. posted by

I hate coming home to crap thrown onto my driveway. What annoys me more is there are a few houses for sale in our neighborhood-they've been listed since we moved here in October, yet they still throw that garbage on the driveway so I to go and pick it up rather than wait for it to blow across the street. Anything that I find on my driveway goes directly into my garbage bin. It makes me wonder if that type of advertising actually works. Most people I know just throw that stuff away too without so much as glancing at it. Then part of me says it must work or they wouldn't keep doing it. Does anyone if there is a do not call cell phone registry? I know the reg do not call list works great but my cell lately has been lit up with calls from PA, CO etc.

Some of the papers that come to your house in GH are the Mountain Signal and the Loop. Local businesses such as Mama Hillybeans, Hitching Post Theatres, et cetera advertise in these papers and pay completely for the printing and distribution of these small town papers. The Tehachapi News used to rely on local advertisers and news before they went "big time" but these papers are still "smal town local." Pick them up and support the local economy. If you don't want these papers, there is a number inside to stop them. If the trash on your drive is something different, there should be a number to call to stop distribution. This is the Liberal in me coming out. posted by

Romantic poet, perfect response, I was wondering why no one else got this, the only ones I ever get are the Loop and signal, and they have good coupons and ads in their for local businesses, People should want to get these, why on earth would you just step over them for days and not pick them up? posted by

There are a lot of hard working people in this community who thrive in spite of some of the big businesses moving in. My family is a Sam Walton family and have been for years. contraire to what some of my liberal buddies may tell you they do not want the small businesses out of town. They dont want their business. They dont want your single soda and cigarette business. They want you to come in and spend LOTS of money. There are some small businesses in this town I wouldn't patronize if I needed whatever it was they were selling and it was the only place in town to buy it. I would rather spend the $4.50 a gallon and drive to Bakersfield and drive them out of town. But there are many good hard working Tehachapians who live and work in this community who deserve your business and our town deserves your taxes.
While we are on the subject, I recommend that you NOT patronize the Hospital Guild Thrift Store. They have now twice asked a group of disabled patrons to leave referring to them as "those people" and "them". They have used phrases such as "insurance risk" and "they can't come in here" or "they cant touch stuff in here" as if their touching any of the wares would devalue them in some way. You think I drop "F" bombs at open mic? You should see me in ratty old thrift stores that kick disabled people out... posted by

So...I just got my tired, lazy a** up from the computer and picked up the paper in my driveway. (Just had the boys pick the three up last night that were in the yard, in the gutter and under a bush) I just called the TN, explained to them that I can pick up this copy of Southeast Kern Extra at work and I'd like for them to stop delivery. I'm sorry that I "should" want this thrown in my driveway weekly. Now I guess I'll have to wait until the loop, and the signal get thrown in my drive way and call them too. These I can also pick up at local establishments when I want to look through them. In fact I just picked up a copy of the signal at Mama Hillbillys last night. I'm not sure that's being thrown in my driveway. But I'll be sure to open up the next paper as well and find the number. Thank you for the advise and I'll keep you posted on whether or not my "preferences" are respected. Jeeze, so much for pet peeves huh? Maybe I should stick with the bashing of people who are less fortunate than myself.
