VOTE for STAN BECKHAM. Change Tehachapi City Council, Tuesday, Nov. 7th

VOTE for STAN BECKHAM for Tehachapi City Council.

My name is Stan Beckham.  I am running for City Council and I am asking for your vote.  My name is on the ballot because I read the instructions and met the requirements, ON TIME!  I guarantee you I am not your usual slick politician with rehearsed and scripted answers for every question.  I will tell you what I believe, based on what I’ve learned from my years of experience in this city, in corporate business, in owning a small business, in security and the military.

Accordingly, I will be open to your concerns and questions.  For this reason I have established a Web site that I will keep up and running where YOU can have a TRULY OPEN forum.  Your political speech will NOT be edited on my Web site.  Go to www.StanStanding4U.com.  The sight is currently under construction, but within a few days there will be a blog section open to everyone.  Free and un-edited political debate is what built our Great Country; this is why you should VOTE for STAN BECKHAM.

Those of you wanting change and a positive direction in our City Council will find that we agree on many of the major and important issues.  I give you my oath that I will demand the highest quality from those that serve you, demand better negotiated contracts, and demand transparency in your city government to make it easier for you to stay abreast of what is going on.

Our small businesses will cease getting the run-around from City Hall because of the heavy-handed running of these departments by our City Manager Jason Caudle (current Council Member and Former Mayor Mariana Teel’s son-in-law) and David James, our Planning Director with his disrespectful attitude towards the citizens and the planning commission.  They forget they work FOR the City Council who represent the citizens of Tehachapi and, in Mr. James' case, he works FOR the Planning Commission, not the other way around.

Our small businesses should THRIVE.  There is no reason to build our city income simply on tax revenues from overbuilt housing.  We have many other assets to offer to bring in money and the Chamber of Commerce needs our support in planning for this vision.  VOTE for STAN BECKHAM.

Our children should not have to move away because they can't find a decent job in our community that pays a living wage.  With proper leadership, we can plan and build a city to be proud of!

I've been watching the blogs and news articles regarding the 'new' fire department, the new police department, a new hospital, and so on.  First we had a tremendous amount of new home building that was going to proceed, then, “just before elections”, a sudden MORATORIUM on building until a $100,000 consultant can tell the city where they went wrong!

These sudden “surprises” are nothing but inexperience, mismanagement, lack of leadership and complete disorganization.  ELECT me, STAN BECKHAM and I will give my all to make the changes and bring professionalism and common sense to our city government.

I am embarrassed that our city council has given up their power to Jason Caudle and David James.  The council has abdicated its’ responsibility to the community and allowed these two incompetents to completely rip this city to pieces.  This last statement has been proven by the continuing ineptness that has been displayed of late and reported somewhat in the local news, but mostly on your blogs.  Your BLOGS prove the discontent of the people.

Registered voters of the City of Tehachapi will be seeing a postcard mailer from me coming out within the next few days briefly outlining why you should vote for me.  If you would like a yard sign, please call 822-1907.

Things that make me wonder:  “I read the Tehachapi News along with many other papers, and interestingly enough, I find more detailed information about our City Council Meetings in the California City Newspaper.  Hmmm!”

<<Things that make me wonder:  “I read the Tehachapi News along with many other papers, and interestingly enough, I find more detailed information about our City Council Meetings in the California City Newspaper.  Hmmm!”>>

I will definitely go check out your website--thanks for introducing yourself...

As to the above quote from your blog, I think that the Tehachapi News problem goes far deeper than just the "good ol' boys club"...  From my communication with current and past reporters that work/ed there, the stories that they write are blacklisted or heavily edited if they are controversial or negative.  This editing is done by their parent company...  I am not professionally involved, and I get this information strictly through these reporters, but if this is correct, then the residents here need to KNOW that they are not getting the whole story.  These stories include but are not limited to:  this Fire Department scandal, the Grand Jury's investigation of the Tehachapi School District, the complaints about the School Board, the controversies surrounding the decisions about the hospital, etc.
Do you think that you could have influence over this?  Boy, that would be miraculous!

I am really new to this blog area on the Tehachapi News website, but it sure has been enlightening.  I think I'll recommend that my neighbors read this instead of their pollyanna newspaper.  You're right--the truth is in the discontent of the bloggers here.

What do you think?
Oh, and thanks again for writing here :)

I completely agree with Stan and there are 3 seats up for contention in this election. WE ARE THE ELECTORATE and the City Council is responsible to US...not the other way around. So.....2  of these seats up for election should go to Stan Beckham and WRITE IN the name of Henry Schaeffer and let's send at least 2 of these 30 year incumbents back where they belong....away from the Long Tables and In The Back OF the Room...with the rest of us. That's where they belong because Enough Is Enough!!!

I don't know Stan Beckham very well I have only talked to him once on the phone. I will vote for him without knowing him just because of being so fed up with whats going on. Please Vote for him and Henry!  If you have to vote for 3 just because, then add Vernon to that list.

I can't believe the amount of discontent there is for this City Council and they don't even know it. Mrs.Vernon has stated she isn't even spending any money or time trying to get reelected because she thinks everyone is happy with what they are doing. I know I am NOT! The News Paper is doing a sad job and everyone knows it. It's all happy happy happy stories and that's it. I will be only voting for two people Stan and write in Henry. That's it!!  Come on news do a story on who's running and why? Do a story on this write in campaign. Do a story on why people are mad.

Vote for Stan and Henry! Let them know they are not doing what we want!

Stan understands the sacrafices that fire and sheriff personnel make, the services they provide to their communities, the politics involved in both fields and how honored he is to say that we have the best of both worlds in Tehachapi.  As for any new departments that may, or may not, spring up Stan has a very high standard for them to measure up to.  The citizens of Tehachapi deserve the best and you are it.

Let's get out the vote and VOTE for STAN BECKHAM and write-in Henry Schaeffer!  Pass the word and let's get the largest voter turnout that Tehachapi has ever seen!  We're all winners when we VOTE!

Firefighters from Cal. City are suing their city leaders to talk about changing their department to the Kern County Fire Department. They fill its better for them and the City. Even with their firemen taking a pay cut.  What do you Stan think about this? What will YOU do for Tehachapi Fire Department?

Tehachapi for Life,  Have you driven by the 'new' city fire department facility?  You can't miss the big white tent.  It looks like Barnum & Bailey is in town.

I feel bad for the young fellows working there who just want a decent and rewarding job.  I would encourage them to go get their training and apply with the Kern County Fire Department.

Personally I would not have a city fire department or a city police department, especially reportable to the 'City Manager.'  Jason Caudle doesn't have the experience to manage two such vital positions.  I can guarantee you that I will be the wrench in the cog where these two departments come into play.  I can't tolerate waste.  Our city doesn't have the money to waste and keep pouring down dry holes.  As a businessman I don't need expensive studies to know that there are some things that are better "out-sourced."  Of course, our City Manager wouldn't have the control and power he is seeking then would he?  Or, is it under the guidance of his mother-in-law that this power play is being made?

Perhaps under the proper guidance, meaning NOT his mother-in-law, Jason Caudle could be trainable, if not life is going to be very difficult for him after I am elected.  The City Manager position is not fun-n-games time.  This position effects peoples' lives in dramatic ways and needs to be approached accordingly.

This also applies to the code enforcement officer and his staff, and to Mr. David James and staff.  These people had better learn to act professionally and with respect to the citizens of Tehachapi and PDQ because I plan on spending a lot of time with ALL of the departments and their respective heads.  I expect excellence and commitment if you are going to be a 'public servant.'

I hope I have answered your questions on these topics and more.  I'll be happy to voice my position on any other questions you may have.

ChiChiBug, Thanks for your input about the T-News and their 'politics.'  They are apparently under the gun from the Bakersfield Californian not to risk losing any of their advertising dollars.  I see the same thing when I read the Californian and then the LA Times.  Unfortunate, but when a newspaper doesn't have any major competition they can pretty much do as they choose.

My Web site, with its open forum, will be up and fully functional by the middle of next week.  My Web designer aka Campaign Manager aka Treasurer aka Graphic Artist aka Publicist, keeps telling me she has a life outside of my political aspiration.  Go figure!

Realistically, when the residents of Tehachapi, BVS, Golden Hills, etc. stop supporting the T-News as a community bulletin board and supports another news source such as the Mountain Signal, Mojave Desert News, Cal City News or whatever source steps up to the plate with real reporting, that is when you will have your miracle!

Unfortunately, as a council member I won't have the authority to make the T-News be a 'real' newspaper.  But I hope you will make considerable of use of the community forum on my Web site.  Let's get the community involved and talking to one another and you will see a lot of miracles in our great city.

My best regards,

Stan Beckham

I find it humorous that you complain about the paper, yet are making full use of its resources to publicize your campaign (isn't that against the rules??) --- and your other supporters also are bashing the paper, but use it everyday to express their opinions.

Seems hypocritical to me to bash something, but still use it for your own gain. Don't know if that's the kind of person I'd vote for.

I don't know if I appreciate your remarks since you are ashamed or afraid to sign your real name. There are far too many "anonymous" people here. Are they all one and the same person? Who knows?

I have been seeing a lot of "VOTE for Stan" sings up in his neighborhood. Who knows a person better then his neighbors? I will be voting for Stan! At lest he puts his name on every post he makes. Not like you!

Well, I'm not afraid to sign my name, so I will agree with anonymous and find it odd that you would complain about those who have made it possible for you even write anything in this very forum. If anything, you should be appreciative that you are able to use the Tehachapi News' web site to further your campaign. And chichibug, I don't know where you get your information, but the Tehachapi News isn't edited by its "parent company" - all editing is done in house. Also, I think its important to always remember one thing about blogs - they need to be taken with a grain of salt. A good chunk of what is written in a blog is heresay or a rumor. You don't know these people and you sure don't know where they're getting their information. At least the newspaper has a responsiblity to the community to report as accurately as possible and the reporters back up their articles with as many viable sources as possible. I don't think you can say that about blogs.

Most of us on here are not happy with the all nice and happy news we see all the time. We know there is bad stuff going on and we want to see a news story on it. We want some real news. NOT "Pet of the week" stuff you get fron your school paper.
posted by justcurious on Oct 24, 2006 at 09:41 AM
Define "real news." How much "real news" do you think actually takes place in Tehachapi? Looking though the paper I see stories about the city council, planning commission, construction, accidents, the upcoming election, the school district and sports. Yeah, there's stories every week about good people doing good things in the area. What is wrong with that?

Whether it makes you happy or not, there's far more good in Tehachapi than there is bad, on any week of the year.  Seems sad that you don't have any use for the good side of the place you choose to live.
