Rebuttal to Phil Smith and Mariana Teel
I was promted to write this because of a "blind blog post" done by 'beenthere' http://www.tehachapinews.co...
You would think that only people who keep abreast of the issues would dare put a statement like that in writing. Go figure! Dear Mr. or Ms. 'beenthere', & nbsp; First it is NOT mudslinging or negative campaigning when the statements being made can be verified and are the truth. The fact that you are not a student of the news does not make what is said a half-truth.
& nbsp; It is NOT for anyone to have to prove anything to you. You need to do your own investigation of the facts as I have. The information is all out there for you to find. But you are like a lot of people, you want someone to do the research and thinking for you and then you can sit back and “try” to throw rocks. That’s the easy way out. So far you have not done your homework.
& nbsp; First, go to the City’s Web site. Then actually read the newspaper for several months back. Not just the Tehachapi News, but also the Mojave and California City papers for the whole story. Then talk with people who know what they are talking about. They can discuss the upside and the downside to all of the issues. Only then you can take a stand, make your decisions and call me a liar, or not qualified for the job.
& nbsp; And, by the way, when I am elected, and I will be, if Mrs. Teel is re-elected she will find it to her benefit to work with me. I will be demanding on behalf of the citizens of Tehachapi. I will demand that David James and Jason Caudle do their jobs to your benefit. You may find me combative, but that is the excuse weak people use when confronted with a demand for ethics, high standards and professionalism.
& nbsp; Not one thing I have stated in this campaign has been a lie or half-truth, or wild accusation as you call it.
& nbsp; And by the way, Jason Caudle was going to announce the name of the new Chief of Police on November 1st. As of this writing no such announcement has been made even though a job want ad was placed for a secretary for this individual. Surely even Jason Caudle isn’t stupid enough to hire his former boss Steve Perez and bring a Grand Jury investigation down on the City of Tehachapi!!!
& nbsp; You accuse me of bashing the “job of serving our city.” I am not bashing the job, I am bashing the civil servants who are clearly becoming antiquated and outclassed, who have not used their common sense and who have cost us millions in taxpayer dollars that could have been better spent elsewhere. I am bashing our system of no term limits where the mayor is elected by popularity vote of the city council and not by the people. That is why they have been able to play musical chairs all these years. That is called backroom politics for your edification (look it up.)
& nbsp; I applaud anyone who gives of his or her time to this crucial civil service function because the monetary reimbursement is not there. But, the NEPOTISM and CRONYISM HAS TO STOP. Change has to be made because your city council is NOT listening to the citizens. As the lady said, just read Mariana Teel’s statement above, it doesn’t make any sense. And, we need term limits. Time has moved on and way past the system of government we currently have in our City. Change has to be made.
& nbsp; You are the one spreading half-truths and innuendo when you infer that I am not a citizen of Tehachapi. My family moved here in 1948. My father was a local businessman. I went to local schools, played football as a Tehachapi Warrior and then went on to college. I went to Vietnam and served my country. I then worked for Lloyd’s Bank in international banking along with the federal government. After retirement with Lloyd’s I owned a small business and sold that out successfully and moved back to Tehachapi, my home. I have lived continually in Tehachapi for the past 20 years.
& nbsp; Phil Smith made the innuendo that I have funds from special interests because I have “fancy signs, mailers and ads.” I have funded my campaign completely on my own and have accepted endorsements from no one. Phil Smith obviously didn’t sign the same ethics pledge that I did regarding slander when I turned in my campaign package, because he did not state the truth and has no facts to back up his statement.
& nbsp; Phil Smith and Mariana Teel did not even spend the $500 to put ANY information about themselves on the voters’s ballot. Campaigning is called applying for the job. These two have NOT even applied for the job. The only reason you saw the statements they made above is that it was offered for FREE by the Tehachapi News.
& nbsp; I challenge YOU to prove any of the innuendo that you have put in your Blog. Quote me chapter and verse and I’ll be happy to continue this debate. I also challenge you to put your name out there and quit hiding behind your computer if you really have a stand and really have something to say.
& nbsp; More facts and proof on Teel and her ethics regarding the Nunes Ranch Property to come; watch for it.

Lets see he said he was going to stop the fire department....that's a $1 million savings right there. He said he is going to stop all this nepotism....So there is answers to some of the questions you have asked.....you just need to read what has been already posted.... Doesn't Stan have the right to be alarmed, don't we all....to many homes, no water, bad water, nepotism, over bearing code enforcement, down town project, and on and on....If you are not alarmed then you should be!

What are you going to do if you are in office? You mention not wasting taxpayer money. What does that mean to you? What will you stop spending? I want to hear about what you are planning to do. Not about how much you don't like what other people have done. What is your plan? posted by

I've never seen Mr. Beckham support with any solid evidence any of the so-called facts since he came out against the Nunes Ranch, which just happens to threaten his peaceful neighborhood, not mine or yours, or even the large majority of voters. I've never heard him speak out against any other developments that weren't in his own backyard, and after "doing my own research," as he suggested, it seems that he misspoke about his relationship to the "Nunes Ranch" and also highly exaggerated the environmental issues related to that particular development. Actually, I'm kind of surprised that legal action wasn't taken. I never questioned Mr. Beckham's residency, I was referring to Mr. Schaeffer's end run for city residency. Don't worry, we all know where you live Mr. Beckham. The only relationship I question in this race is the relationship between Mr. Beckham's alarmist tactics, which are married to his mudslinging and name calling, and cousin to absolutism. I would like to see a relationship with the town leaders that weren’t predicated on bullying and unsupported claims of incompetence. Just because you don't like policy doesn't mean you attack the policy makers. After all, someone voted for them in the first place. And for those you who might be misled into thinking that Jason Caudle holds power over the city council, that is just another example of Mr. Beckham's FALSE claims. Mr. Caudle's job is to act on what the city council approves. He cannot act independently of the council - period. In this matter, I am simply stating fact, not expressing opinion or showing favor. (That's what I'd expect from my elected government representatives.) Let me be clear, I’m not advocating or campaigning for the incumbents. As I said before, perhaps it is time for a change in our local government, but the system only works when those chosen by the voters to fill positions of leadership can act together to affect a positive change. These people will have to work together. History has proven that when things aren't going right, just ANY change is not always the best course of action. Back in the 30's, the German's thought that Hitler looked like a pretty good alternative to the Kaiser, and we all know how that one worked out. (By the way, I'd lose the 'stache Stan) After "doing my research," I do dare. Mr. Beckham to "state in writing" that you appear to be the one "throwing rocks" and those rocks have shattered any illusion of your competency to behave in a professional, ethical manner - in my opinion. And for the record, that's what blogs are for...stating your ideas and opinions. And as justcurious pointed out you seem to be doing a lot of that on this blog, and quite frankly, I'm surprised they haven't shut you down for campaigning on a non-commercial site. I'm also curious what "rights” buying an ad provides except for the freedom of speech. posted by

Well, you said you weren't going to be the typical politician with pat answers and scripted and rehearsed speach. I knew you couldn't pull off the 'typical' politician bit, you're too honest. Go get 'em my friend, you've got our votes and from the talk I've been hearing in my office most of the whole town too! posted by

As to the agenda, it is currently published on the city hall Web site but often not until the evening of the meeting. I too would like to see the agenda published in the paper. I would also like to see our council and planning meetings broadcast on our local government channel as a way to promote transparency. Follow this link to get to our city's municipal codes which are in need of updating, btw. http://www.tehachapicityhal... Thanks for asking, Stan Beckham posted by

Hasn't this nepotism been going on for a while? Isn't Maryanne related to our previous mayor Rombouts? And there are others who have had relatives in the city government that helped get them in, too. I wish the agenda for each council meeting would be in the newspaper so we citizens have a chance to voice our opinions on things that are important to us. Also, is there a public place where we can read the laws and codes specific to our city?

Complaining...no, I'm not complaining. I'm doing something about it by getting off my butt and running for office. And, paying my own way, not beholden to any 'special interest' except the people of Tehachapi. Advertising for free? Well, apparently you didn't see the 1/4 page full color ad that I ran in the Tehachapi News. I think the cost of that gives me more right than some people who haven't paid anything to the Tehachapi News. What ad(s) have you run lately? And, as far as a plan for something positive...how about we stop wasting taxpayer money? What about looking down the road and THINKING about what we are doing BEFORE we implement a huge and expensive project. What about planning a project out so that it doesn't inconvenience and hurt the small businesses along Tehachapi Blvd. as the project progresses. Want positive? The people doing your so called complaining are the people who make change happen and they are the people whose backbone will plan and build a great city. A city that can be safe, and clean and healthy to live in. But, you have to clear out the deadwood created by nepotism and cronyism. You have to plan for growth. And, planning means hard work and that means commitment and I am committed to the people of Tehachapi. What amazes me is the number of people on this Blog that are afraid to put up their real names and take a stand for what they believe in. Admittedly this is a somewhat small town, but when did political debate become such a scary thing that people have to hide their discussions? Vote for Stan Beckham and take back control of your city council. posted by

Any chance that might happen? I don't vote for people who hide their lack of ideas by running down their opponents. |
