$Three Million Dollar Bonfire
The RECENT construction of ANOTHER fire department -- at Pinion and Curry Streets -- you know the one -- with the large white tents over much of the construction -- is just sitting there -- flapping in the wind, idle and unoccupied. That aesthetic edifice adds to the property values doesn't it? My research indicates that Tehachapi City Officials -- who should have read the applicable codes for compliance BEFORE the fact -- didn't take the time to read until AFTER the fact. The compliance codes expressly state that ANOTHER fire department SHALL NOT BE CONSTRUCTED -- ("shall" and "must" is mandatory language and "may" is permissive language when interpreting Codes) -- NEAR AN EXISTING fire department -- UNLESS (except) the NEW construction is AT LEAST ONE MILE AWAY. The NEW construction at Pinion and Curry Streets is a "stone's throw" away from the EXISTING fire department at There was OBVIOUSLY the sophmoric belief that you've read it all, know it all, I don't need to READ, I'm omniscient, I'm omnipresent, I absorb through osmosis. Sure you do, and pigs fly too. I expect such academic oversight from my students who're still in training -- not grown folks charged with LEADING City Government! That's unconscionable and dereliction of duty for Three Million dollars. Had televised council meetings been in place, this major fiasco could have at least been discovered by citizenry with learned, objective reasoning that could have "put the brakes" to the bonfire before it scorched the Tehachapi earth. That apparently means that occupancy of the new $Three Million Dollar fire department would be unlawful. Hence, another example of City Tax Payers' dollars at work and why a $Three Milion Dollar construction is completely worthless. What's a "bonfire"? According to Webster's Unabridged Dictionary, it is" a large fire built in the open air, for warmth, entertainment or celebration, to burn leaves, garbage, etc." What's a "boondoggle"? According to Webster's Unabridged Dictionary, it means "to do work of little or no practical value merely to keep or look busy". This latest "boondoggle" is the best one yet ! -- that I've seen in 25 years here in Tehachapi. The construction of the NEW $Three Million Dollar fire department is tantamount to taking $Three Million Dollars and putting a match to it and inviting everyone to the bonfire. It's no earthly good because it's NOT "Code compliant". With tongue in cheek: It makes me feel warm and fuzzy just thinking about the City Officials who had Tehachapi Residents' best interests in mind before spending $Three Million Dollars. I hope we're all invited to the bonfire. That's -- THREE MMMMMMMMMM ILLION for the bonfire PLUS a continuing monthly salary for such paragons of wisdom. Now, doesn't that make you feel all nice and warm and fuzzy inside beholding management of your City's dollars in one of its finest hours? 9 comments from 6 users

Yeah - This is called Jason's folly. At the rate he is going we're going to have to start numbering his follies. Beckham is trying to salvage this property for the city by negotiating with Hall's Ambulance to put in a station here and wait until the market picks up to sell the property. Trying to make lemonade out of lemons. Can you believe that Jason tried to sneak the NEWLY CREATED part time position of EMERGENCY SAFETY OFFICER and TRAINING OFFICER past the council on the "consent agenda" and didn't tell them that Tim MacLaughlin was already hired for the position? Thankfully Beckham called him on it and this didn't make it through council. Oh, by the way, this part-time position was supposed to pay $30,000 per year! This is why Beckham put forth the resolution that all newly created positions need to be reviewed by the council. And, what did the council do...they turned it down because Jason said, "The city staff wouldn't like having to work for the council and would set back civil service 100 years." How stupid is that? And like the city staff really likes working for Jason, ha! They bad mouth him all the time for his arrogance and lack of management skills. posted by

It was two city employees that let the cat out of the bag about the new part-timeĀ EOC job. Sad :( that our own city employees don't even like whats going on. What is sadder :(( they feel as they can't speak up about it, and they resort to calling the public hell raisers. I hope something is done about the tent soon. I think it would be ok to put Halls in it as long as Hall is paying a fair price. Maybe sharing and caring could use it they are looking for a place.

http://www.tehachapicityhal... Would anyone else like to chip in and buy a HUGE poster of this for the city council and manager to look at during meetings? "The city staff wouldn't like having to work for the council and would set back civil service 100 years." I think Jason needs to take a look at this chart daily along with the city council. Also, the City Fire Dept has been disbanned. They are no longer running. The house on Pinion was not built but purchased and the city spent 3 million dollars to get where they were before they were dis banned. Now had we not fought for a study we would have been spending 1 million+ yearly for that fire dept. Thank God, that fight is behind us. As far as Hall taking over the house on Pinion. Why? They already have a station in town and now one in Golden Hills that they can't seem to man. Why try for another station? I say sell the house and use the money for something like the much needed repairs at the senior center or speed bumps near the high school. Let me tell you I was near there during lunch the other day and I felt like I was watching the Indy 500. IT WAS SCARY! Oh I also forgot to say that I think the tent should be given to SCVFD. posted by

This entire endeavor was bad from the beginning. Hiring people noncompetitive in a very competitive firefighter job market then turning around and promoting unqualified people within. The City Manager just thought he knew it all, he knew how to waste Tehachapi Tax dollars for an ego battle against the KCFD and now the city is even less protected than before. By turning this situation into an ego battle and trying to get rid of the county the city manager let his ego run decisions and now you have a great big tent in the middle of the city to thank him for. Maybe the tent is more suited for the circus show instead of city hall. What happened to the money that used to fund TFD shouldnt it be used to add personel to KCFD sta 12?

Don't worry too much about the house being used as a station for Hall's Ambulance. Hall's turned down the deal because they already have the other property. The property is available for lease and whoever leases it will pay fair market value. To clarify about the EOC job, I was already questioning this item on the consent agenda when I received a phone call from (you get to guess unless that person gives me the OK) about what was happening and who was in line for the position. Keep those calls coming in folks! (661) 822-1907 - Stan

Are you saying I am shanethepain? Well guess again. I worked with Shane at Halls in the 80's. Yes I said the 80's! I still talk with him weekly but I am not him. If you go back and read some of the things that I have written you will see that thepain and I don't always agree. Besides if you knew thepain, you would know he is very much away from is laptop these days. Also many of the past and current hall employees know that I am real. ANONYMOUS are you still hammer, or was it upset? As you can see by my post I dont agree with Stan at all and for what I am told thepain does some of the time.

Anon is not hammer, and I have no idea who upset is. Anon.....good thing you changed your post. You totally gave yourself away. Why the sudden hostility? Also, Medicone is not Shane. To clear it up (although Stan kinda did already) Jim, Shane, Stan and myself addressed the EOC position.
