These photo's were taken at noon today showing thetrain depot, what a terrible loss! Like everyone else in town, we anxiously watched the progress being made and were really looking forward to the opening of the restored depot. I just read a Forum post concerning train whistles and how the railroad likes to blow them just to irritate some of us. http://www.tehachapinews.co... The fact of the matter is the trains blow their whistles because even in this day and age barely a week goes by without us hearing about some moron who tries to beat the train and loses. People try to drive around and under the lowered arms or just beat the train at un-signaled crossings. The family of these idiots then sue the railroads, costing them a small fortune in time and legal fees. Don't believe me, do a google search for train accidents and see how many lawyer web sites come up in the search results. When was the last time we had a train related fatality here in Tehachapi? Obviously the whistles are doing their job by alerting the morons to get their butts away from the tracks. I would also be willing to bet the railroad was here long before you were Mr. William Bates and will still be here long after you're gone. The only way to eliminate the train whistles is to eliminate human stupidity and I wish you good luck with that! |
