I met Gube!!!
Last night I was at Open Mic night. I met Gube!!! It is amazing we all didn't recognize him in the crowd, because he looks just like his avatar.

Joty, no I did not get up and read, just don't have it in me to do that yet... I did create a poem and shared it with Romantic Poet and he fixed it up for me. I just have a fear of speaking in front of an audience especially with my childish voice... posted by

I did not get up and read anything. To be quite honest, I have never really written creatively in my life. The blog I posted last week was a stab at capturing my thoughts and the things I love about living in the mountains. I would have to write a lot more before i was ever comfortable getting up and sharing. Although everyone's comments gave me inspiration to write more and maybe learn how to write poetry!!! I did take my kids there last night and they loved it. My oldest said she spent the whole night thinking about what she wants to perform, whether she should sing or read from her journal. I love the talent Techahapi has here, there was poetry from Randy, the Poet, a reading from the NY Times op ed, George Carlin made another appearance, A juggler, and three or four musical acts along with another poet. Holly did an excellent job emceeing as usual. posted by

I think I'll put a big red reminder on my frig...even if I don't have the nerve to get up just yet, I'm with you reffup. Tehachapi does have a lot of talent. eek, I think people would enjoy your soft little voice. C'mon, let's make a pact, all of us, lol. I will if you will! posted by

If I can get up to open mic, anyone can. I was so nervous and I kept having to remember to "breathe". I did it because the essay my daughter wrote was very close to my heart and I wanted to share it. (Not actually realizing how extremely personal it was until like.....I was up there reading). But I think it was good for me to get up in front of a group of people and letting myself go ahead and share. If anything, it helps with public speaking. It reminds you that you are no different than anyone else who is watching/listening. Baby steps Eek.....learn to get out of your comfort zone. It's great. posted by

Olivia, you did a great job up there! I know it's not easy to get up in front of a mic and a bunch of people and spill close personal stuff out there, but you did it and you survived! Very touching story. posted by

Thank you GregL, it was nice afterward, to get so many responses from people I knew there and people I didn't know. I was there last night and a couple of people approached me to tell me they enjoyed my reading. So, all in all, it turned out to be a good experience for me and I would encourage others to do it as well. posted by
