My Atomic Bomb Ring
Some of you are old enough to remember mailing in cereal box tops with a dime, fifteen cents or a quarter for fascinating items like various toys, amulets, and rings advertised to have glorious properties for fun and excitement. And you may recall our comic books of the time had pages of advertising in them to excite the imagination of children and entice them by promises of wonderful things to be had cheaply. Shortly after WWII one company advertised an “Atomic Bomb” ring for children guaranteed to display actual atoms flying about, and following the admonition by advertisers “Be the first kid on your block” I immediately sent off for one. The ring was mounted with a tiny “bomb” about three-sixteenths of an inch in diameter and about five-eighths of an inch long. The bomb was gold colored with a detachable red tailfin. The instructions said to carefully remove the tailfin, then go into a dark room and peer into the back of the bomb where you would see real atoms flying about inside. When I removed the tailfin I could see a small clear plastic lens inserted in the back of the bomb, and squinting into it sure enough I could see a very few infinitesimal faint streaks of light flashing inside it. Perhaps this lens made it possible for an optical illusion, I don’t know. But it would take some learning on my part about atoms to realize whatever I had seen in my Atomic Bomb ring was not actual atoms flying about inside it. I was also learning along the way that the advertisements designed to appeal to children did not always fulfill expectations; more, some were downright frauds perpetrated against children. In the process of time and looking back it does seem incredible that not long after those bombs were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki Atomic Bomb rings were being advertised and sold to children. Insensitive and at the least in very poor taste to put it mildly, how would that look to today’s era of political correctness. But even greater insensitivity and downright frauds are being perpetrated today against children; and, alas, children grow up learning “Not as advertised” is the way the world works. We know children are naïve and easily duped, but when I see advertising today directed at adults promising home loans without any points or closing costs, no appraisal fees, etc. these are identical to the claim children were going to see actual atoms flying about inside their Atomic Bomb rings. So I conclude such blatantly false advertising gets a pass because there are so many powerful people and so much money involved. Perhaps such things are only one of many ways in which the billions of dollars in drug money are laundered. In fact, the stock market probably reflects more about how the rich and powerful acts like the Mafia than anything approaching scrupulous business dealings. The very fact that scrupulous and business dealings are known to be an oxymoron says it all. What should it tell us about how corporations profited from both world wars, from Korea, Vietnam, and now the wars in the Middle East. As with “Press one for English,” amnesty and open borders, drugs, wars ongoing and potential, who profits? Given the thoroughgoing corruption in government I don’t wonder amnesty for many millions of illegal aliens and open borders with Mexico for the sake of slave labor is being advocated by Caesar Bush and Congress. The fact that they are offering Atomic Bomb rings in which we “children” are guaranteed to see actual flying atoms, and the adults are being offered home loans without any fees whatsoever tells me what politicians really think of We the People. As for the corporate masters that own the politicians, these remind me of those trading on the bombs that destroyed Hiroshima and Nagasaki that were looking for profit by defrauding children. Where wealth and power are concerned as with the monsters in human guise, the spawn of Satan that prey on women and children, there is no such thing as conscience. 1 comments from 1 users
