There is a hawk that I'm pretty sure has a broken or hurt wing and can't fly in my yard.  Its been on the ground for at least a few hours already and I've never seen them on the ground more than a few minutes at a time.  Does anyone know of a hawk rescue or something similar? Does anyone know how to handle hawks and want to come rescue it? It's acting pretty hungry, but I have no idea how to feed it.

I will be blunt.  Thanks for being there.  Thanks for putting it all on the line for what you believe.  Thanks for still being optimistic when there was all the excuse to be  pessimistic.  And thanks to whatever higher power there might be, whether it be God, Fate, or Luck that you are still here after risking it all.  I wish you the best and am proud that our country still has people like you that are willing to do what needs to be done despite the personal risk.

Thanks.

Does anyone know if there are any alternatives to AT&T DSL for high-speed Internet access in Bear Valley?  Is there anyone in Bear Valley with high speed Internet that is not using AT&T DSL?

I'm getting pretty fed up with their service.  My phone line is completely out at least a few times a year and it takes them at the VERY minimum 24 hours to bother sending a tech out if I'm lucky.  As both my wife and I need it for work we can't afford to sit around waiting for them to spare a tech from Bakersfield.   This is the worst phone company I've ever had.  Last time the guy told me they were going to have run a new cable down the street to fix it!  Then they figured out the problem was in the central office.  I can't wait to see what the problem is now.

Sorry for the rant.  I'm just frustrated.  I hate monopolies.

What is the deal with all these remakes and rehashes of old movies?  I read they are remaking Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds now.  Didn't they learn with the ridiculous remake of Psycho?   Re-making Hitchcock movies borders on sacrilegious. With so many good stories out there I find it incredible that they go back and rehash (and usually butcher) the old movies.  They even remade Halloween.  I mean come on.  Thats just a slasher flick!  Its just a cheap thrills movie to begin with, and not about story.

Anyway, sorry for the rant.  I just love movies so much and the average quality of movies these days is just going down the tubes.  It frustrates me.

Have you seen that commercial?  The one from "Homeland Security" with all the kids asking, "Mom, Dad, if I'm at soccer practice will you come get me?"  Welcome to the world of propaganda.  It makes me ill.  Are people really that afraid?  Or are "they" pushing an agenda?  Wtf?!  Propaganda website if you need brainwashing:

If you never see a post from me again, they came and got me!

It's been (what feels like) eons since I've been in a band and had the pleasure of playing with other musicians and I was looking to hook up with anyone local who wants to "jam" or happens to be looking for a bass player.  I have a bunch of half-written tunes that I would love to collaborate on, especially if you can do some lead guitar work.  I can play some rhythm but I'm not a lead guitar player by any stretch. ;)   I have a pretty decent home studio here for recording and mixing and would love to get with some folks who are into making music just for the sake of it.  My chops are a little rusty but I've had time since I moved to Tehachapi to play every day so its all coming back with a vengeance!  I can send samples to anyone interested.

Incidentally, despite some of our heated online dialogs, I was hoping to tap Aero since his musical style and tastes gleaned from various posts appears to be similar to mine, for some rockin' "Zeppelin'esque" jams!  And anyone who can crank out Stairway to Heaven is OK in my book. ;)  If you still read this site, Aero, or if someone knows him could ping him for me I'd be obliged.  Nothing like music and beer to sweep the water under the bridge. ;)  And I'll buy the beer!

If anyone sees a cat that looks like this in Bear Valley my family and I would be most appreciative if you could catch him.  He's a lot bigger than he looks in the pictures and knows how to open doors and work deadbolts (so if you DO manage to catch him keep this in mind please I'm not exaggerating.)  He has been missing for five days now.  Despite the lack in the pictures he is wearing a collar and his name is Tigger.  The collar has our contact information on it.  We fear something might have "caught" him but in case he's just lost I thought I'd put this up and hope for the best!  Thanks!

If you shop at TJ Maxx or Marshalls you should probably keep a very keen eye on your credit card/bank card statements.  This is so inexcusable.

Since so many people here love to argue politics on these blogs, I thought it would be fun to see where everyone stands politically.  There is a quick little test here:

www.politicalcompass.org

that asks a bunch of questions and tells you where you are on the political spectrum.  It also shows you how you compare to some famous political figures.

My results were:

www.politicalcompass.org/printablegraph

Economic Left/Right: -0.25
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -2.46

Which would seem to put me almost smack dab on the middle of the chart with slight libertarian leanings.

You can get the link by clicking the link after your test that says "Show graph on separate page for printing" and copying and pasting the link from that page.

Since my comments are now being deleted/censored from a certain other charged thread (www.tehachapinews.com/home/Blog/aerospace1/1674/) this article posted there by Blaze seemed very apropos ;)

www.heritage.org/Research/Regulation/EM368.cfm

I found it interesting so I figured I would move it here where I'm free to discuss it more.

Blaze had an interesting point that I hadn't considered.  Its sort of a backhanded shot at silencing the overwhelmingly conservative public radio talk programs and as such becomes a free speech issue.  The fact that it was discarded by the FCC and has been determined by the courts to limit the variety of public debate already,  doesn't seem to deter the Democrats who now want to make it a law instead of just an FCC doctrine that can be dismissed.  This could be potentially scary legislation!
