Movie remakes
What is the deal with all these remakes and rehashes of old movies?  I read they are remaking Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds now.  Didn't they learn with the ridiculous remake of Psycho?   Re-making Hitchcock movies borders on sacrilegious. With so many good stories out there I find it incredible that they go back and rehash (and usually butcher) the old movies.  They even remade Halloween.  I mean come on.  Thats just a slasher flick!  Its just a cheap thrills movie to begin with, and not about story.

Anyway, sorry for the rant.  I just love movies so much and the average quality of movies these days is just going down the tubes.  It frustrates me.

I'm with you on this-It's hard enough to find a movie that's good anymore ,and then they mess with the classics.I loved The Birds and won't go see the re-make.Someone should write up a contract against mangling the classics. That goes for music too!

I agree with you. This sacrelige is a dark side of Hollywood where they keep the real loonies, kind of like the horse theives in otherwise respectable families.

I don't watch many movies anymore.  As for remakes, I learned a long time ago they would be a disappointment. The Birds.  I was just a little girl when that came out.  That was and always will be the scariest movie ever for me.  I'll never forget the close up of the lady with her eyes plucked out.  (ew, scary).  My son LOVES, those slasher movies.  He's not into story line, mystery, or any such thing.  I did watch two movies recently, that to me were really good.  They made you think and were kind of creepy.  1408 which I posted on recently.  Stephen King movie that was really creepy.  I want to read the book.  The latest I watched was Dejavu, it was kind of creepy too.  Bigdog and I watched it and after watching it awhile, I told him ohhhhhh, it's a love story.  Mind you the main female character was dead.  But I love Denzel Washington, to me, he is truly an actor, his whole face takes on character.  Bigdog, being the Big Dog he is was so upset that I would suggest it was a love story.  His words...."SHE'S DEAD".  I told him I don't care, look at the way he's looking at her.  (In my best love story female tone of voice).  I just love a good movie.

I'm with you Scottso. I've never understood the remakes either. I read a lot, and there are soooo many good stories out there that would make good movies.

They've remade Sleuth, Michael Caine is in it again, but this time he plays the novelist whose wife leaves him for a younger man (his original role 1972) now being played by Jude Law. Didn't Law also play Alfie in the remake, another Michael Caine movie?

King Kong  three versions. Hairspray - how can anyone think they can top John Waters?

And what about those terrible movies based on old TV shows? Anyone remember Lost in Space? Arggghhhh!

Olivia-isn't that just like men, they get all caught up in trying to figure out the plot ,miss that look Denzels face and write off a woman just because she's dead!I loved that movie, men found it confusing.Dead or not, that was love.

Yes it was Ginger, I saw "that" look as soon as he felt it.  What a great actor!

Hey Scott, I'd have to agree with how cheesy it is to keep re-making these movies which seem so "Hollywood" if you
know what I mean.
I'm a movie buff myself and I really like murder mysteries.  Did you see the "Black Dahlia? " The new one really Sucked (excuse the expression).  There was one that came out before this one that was much better.
That was also the case with "The Zodiac".  The older version was much better in my opinion.
I would also agree that there are many stories that could and should be told.  But...just like many things in modern times, it's usually about the money$

Hey Scottso, what do you think about some of these "spoofs" on old TV shows?  Starsky and Hutch was quite entertaining!

Yeah I didn't really care for Black Dahlia.  I agree the other one was better.  The spoofs are entertaining sometimes, but they are usually targeted at a specific audience.  Unless you were of a certain generation you probably never saw the original TV shows.  Like my kids will never "get" the Starsky and Hutch movie.  Or the Dukes Of Hazard movie.  Or the Miami Vice movie.  I just feel like they should stop wasting time redoing old stuff when there are so many good new stories to tell.

Four Feathers was a remake,of the 40's or 50's version, that I enjoyed. I never saw the original. (an old Army buddy of mine produced the remake.)

Every once in a while I think of an old movie that would make a good remake. Ever see Reefer Madness.  How  about Kramer playing the crazed piano player !

You are a very handsome young man.  You remind me of Cornell Wilde.  One of my favorite actors.  Did you know that Mr. Wilde did a guest spot on Father Knows Best.  What a handsome young man he was.

Why, thank you!  I have to give credit to my parents though.  It was their genes. :)

You are a rascal indeed!!!  You are lucky that I am as old as I am.  I might have to trip you with my cane and take you home.  If you are married, your wife is very lucky to have a handsome husband like you.
