Fairness Doctrine is Not Fair!
Since my comments are now being deleted/censored from a certain other charged thread (www.tehachapinews.com/home/Blog/aerospace1/1674/) this article posted there by Blaze seemed very apropos ;)

www.heritage.org/Research/Regulation/EM368.cfm

I found it interesting so I figured I would move it here where I'm free to discuss it more.

Blaze had an interesting point that I hadn't considered.  Its sort of a backhanded shot at silencing the overwhelmingly conservative public radio talk programs and as such becomes a free speech issue.  The fact that it was discarded by the FCC and has been determined by the courts to limit the variety of public debate already,  doesn't seem to deter the Democrats who now want to make it a law instead of just an FCC doctrine that can be dismissed.  This could be potentially scary legislation!

Thanks for the new link.  Instead of legislating equal air time maybe the Democrats need to look at why talk radio is mostly conservative.  That is one of the problems I have with the Democratic party.  If something doesn't look "fair" they try to change the laws to fix it instead of discovering why it isn't "fair" in the first place.  I wonder if this law is passed will it reach so far as to the predominately liberal television media.  Will bravo be forced to air "Straight Eye for the Queer Guy."  Or will network television be forced to bring in shows that have a mom, dad, and kids that don't do drugs, don't come out of the closet and go to church every Sunday.

OK I found a current article stating basically the same thing.

It's the same story different player. In this round it is Dennis Kucinich that is pushing to bring it back not the two that are mentioned in the 1993 article. Sorry for the misinformation but it has been corrected now.

Well I guess I should have looked at the article date before I mentioned this! I know this is a current debate right now in Washington but the players have changed. I will try to find a current article to reference regarding this....please stay tuned!

I hate to put a damper on this blog.  I did a little bit of research on Hollings and Hefner.  Hollings retired from the Senate in 2005 and Hefner retired from Congress in 1999.  I found the article itself interesting.  I am a registered Republican and find it amusing that the Democrats tried to censor the air waves like that.  I think the article was from 1993.

Hi Scott-Just want to say that aerospace1 is coming off as incredibly arrogant and completely self absorbed. Thanks for blogging. Apparently aero thinks your hostile? Who is the hostile one really? All of our opinions is what makes this site interesting not that I have voiced my opinions.
