Tehachapi Prison on lockdown...
I was really surprised no one commented on this and even more surprised I didn't see it on the front page somewhere. http://www.kget.com/news/lo... I find it somewhat alarming that they want to expand the prison in light of the apparent fact that they can barely handle the inmates they have now. 4 comments from 3 users

I'd think that overcrowding would be eased with expansion and help keep inmates more under control-- but I'm not much of an expert on the subject. At least this is better than the prison my sister worked at in Montana. They did a riot drill and it was her job to notify authorities.... she called 911 and the dispatcher had gone home for the night. She had to call his home phone. Ahh... tiny towns. posted by

I think realistically an expansion would just mean they can overcrowd more. Do you really think they would just "uncrowd" the current inmates and not cram as many more prisoners as they can in there? Call me jaded, but I think they will just fill it up as much as they can get away with, just like they do now. I think I would freak out if I called 911 and no one answered! lol Isn't that one of the signs of the apocalypse or something? ;)

Yeah, I thought of that a little later, and I think you're exactly right. They'd just fill it right up to over-capacity again. Where are all these criminals coming from?? lol! posted by

That is one of my questions that has never been answered..are they adding beds to accommodate the hundreds of prisoners that already don't have beds, or are they going to add more beds so they can increase the overcrowding even more, leaving several hundred MORE without beds?!?!? Or are they going to adds enough beds so that a prison built for 1000 inmates will have 1000 beds? Lets overcrowd the prisons even more, then complain when they riot!
