This test is whacked! I took it three times because I couldn't believe where I ended up.  I got the same results 3 times and I drastically changed some of my answers twice.  Sorry not buying it. Was very interesting though.

Christine- What does being the Pope and being bossy have to do with each other?

Your political compass
Since so many people here love to argue politics on these blogs, I thought it would be fun to see where everyone stands politically.  There is a quick little test here:

www.politicalcompass.org

that asks a bunch of questions and tells you where you are on the political spectrum.  It also shows you how you compare to some famous political figures.

My results were:

www.politicalcompass.org/printablegraph

Economic Left/Right: -0.25
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -2.46

Which would seem to put me almost smack dab on the middle of the chart with slight libertarian leanings.

You can get the link by clicking the link after your test that says "Show graph on separate page for printing" and copying and pasting the link from that page.

Wow, yesterday everyone wanted to see where I landed on the graph, and today I'm tossed aside like an old shoe!  Humph!

It always gets heated so fast around here!  I can relate to Blaze being offended at the implication made by Sparks that only people left of an arbitrary line care about people.   I find that idea offensive myself, but I won't take it personally.  I'm about right smack dab on the line.  So does this mean I care to help, or don't care to help people?  Since the questions in that little test are so general, as Aero astutely pointed out, the results will obviously be very general as well.

Here's a specific as opposed to a general example.  Nothing burns me more (especially during tax time when I discover that I work the first three months or more every year just to pay income tax) seeing someone pay for food at the grocery store with food stamps and then cart their groceries out to their shiny new late model $40,000 SUV.  Does this mean I hate to help people?  No.  I just hate helping THOSE people who are obviously bucking the system.  Where does that put me on the arbitrary line?

The point was that this was supposed to be a fun way to see where people GENERALLY stand.

Also, as I pointed out in another blog, what people call themselves is a subjective and not an objective label.  As oochild said above what is considered liberal in the midwest and the south is considered conservative in California.   So the only way to tell how someone truly stands on issues is to read what they write about different SPECIFIC issues.

Anyway, it would probably go a long way to cooling down the temperatures if everyone assumed that no is attacking anyone personally.   Especially in print, its hard to tell what people mean when you can't see their body language or facial expressions.  Somehow I don't think people would get so offended if we all had these discussions sitting around a table in a bar or something.

Scott that would irritate me too.. and it does happen. The system is not perfect but, 3/4 of welfare recipients are unwed mothers who do not get child support from the father of their children.  I had a couple good links for information on welfare.. one you can get right off the whitehouse.gov site.. the other was a FICA site I believe.  I'm with you, I don't want to pay for some lazy bum who can work but won't work and I despise people who abuse the welfare system.  I agree the system needs work.  I think EEK should get more medical help and that  middle class America is getting totally screwed when it comes to health care.   As for me believing that lefties are more caring of all people.. I do believe that.  I will not deny that.  As for you being in the center..  hey I would say you are more centered than most of us.  lol   We don't always have to agree Scott and we don't, but I do feel a need to be truthful about my beliefs even when it gets me in trouble.   It may not make me very popular, but I like who I am and accept my imperfections, and I think that is important.

Sparks I need more medical help?? Medical insurance is not a serious issue in my family. Is what my family needs is more resources to get what is needed for our children. For example it took me over a year fighting with the school district to get my youngest son speech therapy. He is 7 years old and his speech is at a 1 to 2 year old level. I could not afford a lawyer and we do not finacially qualify for legal aid. So I did it on my own and got him these services. And there is no way we could of hired a speech therapist on our own.

At Christmas time we were having alot of finacial trouble due to having to pay our electric bill. Our electric bill came and it was sky high and had to be paid. We were in that house for 1 year ( the lease was for a year ) and we paid over $9000 in electric bills. It was running $500 to $800 a month for electic, now we are out of there and our last bill was $100.. What a diffrence!

Now dead beat father's or mother's is another subject and so is welfare...I have not gotten child support in 15 years and I am owed over $60,000....

I am a democrat because I believe democrats have the good of all people in mind.   Of course I am going to believe the left is for all people and their equal rights more so than that of the right..  again that is why I became a democrat.    I won't apologize for that.  I am very proud to be a democrat.   I also care about many other issues like the environment..  there are many reasons I am a democrat.  I want more focus on the middle class as well. I'm as proud to be a democrat as some of you are of being a republican.   I have seen many statements on this blog demeaning democrats and I try not to take them personally either but like Blaze sometimes I do.  We all have a right to our beliefs, and we all have a right to debate them.   I'm ok with Blaze getting upset with me, I understand how he feels all too well.  I have been there many times.   However, I do want Blaze to know that it is not personal... just as the statements made by conservatives about liberals are not personal either..  I'm not perfect.. far from it.   But, I gotta be me and I can't conform to what people think i should be...    I think the Democrats want that for me as well because they care about all people.

If I am wrong and conservatives will help my gay nephew to live a happy life with his partner and allow me to be a godless Buddhist without having another religion pushed on me..    please let me know.   I think we all should have the right to be who we are and believe in what we believe in.   We don't have to agree... but we should have the the right to be different.

Eek  oh I thought you said it was, well I am glad it's not.   I just paid $180.00 for some stupid allergy pills.   Good luck in getting your money from the deadbeat father...  I hear it's almost impossible.   Yeah the system needs work, I think we all agree on that.

eek..... did you ever have the electric company check that meter? That amount of money seems so far out of wack its worth pursuing even if you don't live there any longer if you could prove the meter was malfunctioning maybe they would be required to refund you some money. ...just a thought.

I don't like to get into these political debates because I just don't like politics period but I know that test is very general I took it again and just changed my answers from agree/disagree to strongly agree/strongly disagree on just a few of the questions and it put me over on the right side.

All I can say is Yes; I do care about people and sometimes they need help when times are hard BUT welfare was never ment to be a lifestyle and I'll be damned if I should have to take care of some unwed mother just because she can't keep her legs closed and won't use birth control.

LuvMykatz, I agree welfare should not be a lifestyle and I see now where you do belong on the right.  You have to watch the high, medium and low priority buttons on that test carefully.  They do mean a lot.

Here's some "news" to lighten up your Friday:

Maybe we should not take ourselves so seriously, so relax and take the SUV out for a spin.  You don't know what you're missing!! ha ha ha

Yes, Luv we had the meter checked several times and of course it was fine. Keep in mind the house was entirely electric 100%. And it was also on a water well. The house had very bad insulation and single pain windows and if you even as much turned on the heat there goes the bill. I fought tooth and nail with the rental agency ( whom I will never rent from again ) about this and the owner did take $100 a month off of our rent for 2 months and gave us $400 Whoo Hoo $600 off of over $9,000. Nothing ever got done about the electric problems and we were stuck paying it. My last bill from this house was $830 for 30 days. Currently I owe over $2,000 for a total of 3 months of services. We just have a renter's curse from this rental agency, this is not the first time we have had some serious problems and nothing got done right. I hope no one rents the last house we were in and gets stuck there like we did and had to pay a HUGE price....

The house we are in now is a little smaller but it is gas and electict and both combined was just a little over $200 and i can actually turn on the heat when it is cold and not worry about the bill being over $500.....

Oh and sparks I would love to get my money for my son but honestly I really do not want it because then he would want something to do with my son and I want him as far away from my son as possible.
