honest car mechanic.
i recently had some work done on my car at dave's auto and it was the biggest mistake i have ever made. not only did my car break less than two days after i picked it up, when i asked him about getting my money back he said "we fixed what we thought was wrong and assumed it would be fine, i can't see through steel sweetie." i can't believe he spoke to someone like that. i may be eighteen years old, and i may be a young girl, but i still deserve to be treated in a respectful manner. when i asked about the price he simply said "well, it's not like you paid for it anyways" because my friends father helped me with the bill until i could afford to pay him back. this man is the typical sleezy automachanic that you would expect in the begining of a bad horror film. i've never, in my life heard someone speak in such a condecending manner; especially to someone who paid for work that wasn't done right. i highly suggest that if you work hard for your money and want to be treated the way a paying customer should, you stay as far away from that place as possible. 25 comments from 14 users

Oh,now I get it!This is what you've been reduced to!In that case you both have my sympathies. And I must recommend a good doghouse to retreat to for those weeks, something with enough room for a fridge,t.v.,computer(of course).I'm sure that you would both enjoy the break.Oh,and cause you're a nice guy,you could take the kids with you!

Just to add to this old thread in case someone is needing a mechanic. I had to use Mountain Auto on South Street again yesterday when my car was stalling. I dealt with a different mechanic there... named Burt. I think they may have changed ownership (not sure). There are two mechanics there now named Burt and Ken who have a long list of credentials and many years of experience according to their flyer. Anyway.... Burt was great. He treated me with respect and kindness, which is something as a single woman I rarely see in repair people. He had to replace a hose and clean out some gunk and he replaced some screws that had come off and was causing my engine to do a weird rattle thing. He showed me the old parts and where it was goopy...explained what he was going to do. He got my car running better than I ever remember it running. The cost was fair (actually cheaper than I'd thought it would be). I was very impressed. Overall, I am incredibly pleased with the outcome. I would whole-heartedly recommend Mountain Auto to anyone who is looking for good mechanics at reasonable prices. 822-3237 posted by

Does anyone have any experience with the car repair shop on Tehachapi Blvd. across the street from the Apple Shed? I too always have the feeling that I am being "ripped off" but not knowing the difference between a Johnson Rod and a spark plug ;-) I would appreciate any feedback from those of you that are "in the know"-- by the way the Johnson Rod crack was meant to be humorous-I know what a Johnson Rod is!! LMAO!!

Ruby, I haven't dealt with them... but I have gone to the one across from Kohnen's once... I prefer to take my business elsewhere. Good Luck :) posted by

J&H is the best place in town. They are always great, which explains why you have to wait sometimes. And yeah, the poster's experience with Dave on South St. doesn't surprise me at all, even if he didn't call me sweetie... |
