Any Ideas
Any Ideas For San Francisco?? I am taking my first flight up To SF for three days! I have never been there and I will be going with my cousin who has also never been there. I have heard alot about the the city and we plan on using B.A.R.T. " Bay area rapid transit" rather than taxis. This will give us an adventure. Does anyone have an input on things to see and do?? I will be heading out for this short trip next weekend!?? FYI Were not 21!! 7 comments from 4 users

I haven't been to San Francisco in many years. However, you can get great fish and chips there. Some people say the sour dough bread is to die for. You must take a ride on the cable cars that run up and down the steep streets, just for the experience! Take a jacket it may be cold because it is northern coastal and often foggy. Sounds like you are going to have a fun time. I'm getting the itch to go some where too. I guess it is from being couped up all winter. I previously put this reply on my own blog!! I'll get the hang of this. But there may be a few errors while I'm on the learning curve. LOL!!

BART is great getting you downtown from the airport, or if you go across the Bay or to other adjoining areas, but once you are in San Francisco itself, BART doesn't cover the areas you'll probably want to go. It basically goes from the airport, down Market Street, and across the bay to Berkeley. Get off the Bart at Union Station and take the cable car to Fisherman's Wharf - Pier 39 is a nice shopping area nearby. Take a Bay cruise from there - don't bother going to Alcatraz, but the cruise under the Golden Gate and back is nice. A nice afternoon dining option (not near Fisherman's Wharf) is at the Ferry Building. Of course, there is a lot of night life in SF - depending on what you enjoy, you can probably find it. Be sure to take a sweater and dress in layers! posted by

I go to S.F. every year on business. The best kept secret as far as (dinning goes) is a tiny little pub called Liverpool Lil's. It is in the Presidio and you should be able to find it on line or a phone book. This place is a local hangout and you would walk right bye it if you didn't know. The food and atmosphere are very good. Stay away from eating at fisherman's wharf. It is pricey and not very good. Your really paying for the name. After that, CHINATOWN! You could spend days walking Chinatown and never see all that it has to offer. Don't show fear when ordering, Go for the fried chicken feet and thousand year old duck eggs! Try something new. Enjoy!

Haight Ashbury is a good place to get an old record or a t-shirt. Lots of shops trading on beads and psychedelia. Its been a long time since I was there, it was pretty thick with panhandlers then. The houses lining it are very nice victorians, now worth lots and lots of money and the residents were actively trying to reduce the number of "what happened to the party?" folks that showed up thinking it wasn't too late to get some free lovin' - or at least a free sandwich! But that does bring you to Golden Gate Park which has a lot of things you probably are reading about in your brochure. Art museums, and botanical gardens, and the like. You can have a nice afternoon there with some cheese and wine and whoever your "thou" is! posted by
