What's on your menu Tehachapi?
I like the meat and potatoes stuff, but what really whets my appetite is variety. The more exotic the more palatable.

I like the retail additions too...but...
I agree with brunettebeauty that It's nice to have some new retail choices popping up in Tehachapi. Although right now, the strip malls on Tucker are more parking lot friendly than people friendly.

I would really like to see some efforts put into adding some variety to the downtown area. I would love to have a downtown area with bookstores, coffee shops, restaurants, music stores and boutiques that would make me want to park my car and walk around - if I wasn't already living within convenient walking distance of the downtown area.  Some good music, food (sans the grittier side of the 1950's and 60's era), art displays on a variety of subjects and items that people can actually relate to and afford to buy and good old people watching would be a great addition.  We have so many talented people living here. I would love to have a place to visit where they all gathered casually to show off their talents and interests (besides right here!)

Right now, if a visitor gets off the freeway and drives down Tehachapi Boulevard there's just not much to hold their attention - or their $$$ - for very long.
Be honest, right now, how many of  you would you want walk more than a block to see if there's anything more interesting down the road (if you didn't live here)?
My sincere apologies to the old timers who are trying to make a living down there but there's got to be some variety and new blood to make the area a vital and inviting community hub.

Hey --- a new person is on the blogs! Welcome!

I am always trying to think of a good business to start, and I love the downtown area. What do you think would make a big difference?

I would also like to see some nice places down town to hang out. A coffee shop with and outside area would be very nice.

Thanks for the welcome weebles! I am long on ideas and like most people, short on funds.

What I'd love to see is a place with a cafe' with a simple ala carte menu' comfy places to sit and read or go online, some low-key, impromptu music from individuals or or small groups, fun little gifty things and art to hold my wandering short attention span and maybe on occasion some local speakers. A successful place would have one particular unique item that draws people in like the best ever chocolate skersnizzalishous or sushi of the day, but the real draw would eventually be the people and the atmosphere.
Another great addition would be some sort of family friendly activity like a climbing gym or ice skating or roller rink that could double up as a  public auditorium/meeting place.  And of course, a place with cool clothes and shoes are always a must-have in any downtown area!

I'd personally enjoy a "Baja Fresh" here in town...their food is wayyy yummier than Taco Bell, and it's so fresh & delicious. I miss Baja Fresh, from back years ago when I used to frequent it at lunchtime, down in Laguna Niguel. That..or a Barnes & Noble or similar bookstore...would be fab!!!

I agree with you Sushiso our down town is starting to get very cute, there is a little town down in So. Calif called Temeculia and it has the cutest down town and what a tourist trap. Tehachapi has the perfect downtown to grab tourists, just like Temeculia, traveling both ways! Our town could grab all that tourist revenue and basically they never have to leave a 3 mile area basically leaving the locals alone. I think they are on a good start maybe they will continue to enhance our quaint little town......A bookstore ;-) what a novel idea! ~Sorry, I just had to~ but I think it would be great to have one.

Keep your eyes out for "Mama Hillybean's Coffee House" opening soon in the old Tea place next to the Village Grill.  Also, Primo burgers in the old Stockyard.  Things are happening!
