What's the healthiest thing you do?
Since I'm thinking about jumping off of the carnivore bandwagon for a little bit, I thought I'd ask the group another question.

What is the healthiest thing you do? Do you exercise regularly? Eat lots of fruits and veggies? Get plenty of rest?

And, if you're really daring, what's the least healthy thing you do?

For me, I think the healthiest thing I do is drink a fair amount of water, make sure I have a couple of veggies other than potatoes most days...and laugh. A lot. As much as I can.

Least healthy? Well, I smoke, which I know is very, very bad, but I haven't had the nerve to go on another quitting binge just yet. And I don't get nearly enough sleep.

The healthiest thing I do is  probably the one thing I don't do: Smoke!
My parents were both very heavy smokers and my mother died from lung cancer. I'm thankful I never picked up the habit because then I'd have to worry about getting ashes in my chocolate bonbons while I watch hunky guys do Yoga on TV (while wearing my hoochie mama clothes, of course).
But sometimes when I'm feeling particularly "healthnutty" I'll mix my vodka with V8. And I used to get lots of exercise during my college days on those weekly pub crawls.

Well, I tend not to mix my smokes with my food, since I do my smoking out in the yard and my eating in front of the TV, but you're right about the best thing to do with smoking is not to start. I've quit, from anywhere from 2 weeks to almost a year, but I have always ended up back in the convenience store. I think smoking is the single worst decision I've made as a person, and I still have dreams of one day quitting for good.

I don't drink soda & I changed to 1% milk a few years ago. I also cut way down on fried foods, and subsequently lost 30 lbs. I was really shocked that just those few changes made such a big difference!

I still smoke, but only a couple of packs a week. I know, I know...

Quit smoking about 25 years ago but still was able to ring up lung issues in my old age.   Damn, damn, damn (Henry Higgins impersonation there).

Drink a lot a water - and know of all the clear restrooms in Tehachapi, Bakersfield and Palmdale.

Eat pretty good - lots of veggies but will have to keep the occasional red meat meal.

Find aerobic exercise difficult because of those lung issues - but can do yoga and stretches and love my outdoor gardening.  Should do that good stuff more often.

Bad news - I take way too many drugs.  Prescription drugs, but I just hate it.  I call them my "cocktail."  Any day now we're gonna get the news that I've been taking some drug that will cause senility, blindness and the inability to be coherent.  Not sure how I'll tell about the senility and coherence.  TeeHee

Lori, how did you quit smoking? I had a friend who used that new drug on the market, Chantix, I think it's called.

I hear you on the prescription drugs. I don't take any at all, and don't even like taking aspirin, but I'm sure my time is coming.

I quit smoking 6 years ago with zyban. Smoked 3 packs a day for 20 years. The zyban worked great for me, it really took all cravings away. I haven't had a desire to smoke since then. I also quit drinking 5 months ago. Other then that i eat a lot of cow and pig and chicken.

I exercise daily and that's probably the healthiest thing I do.

I tried the zyban, it made me feel like I was losing my mind. I had to stop taking it before it made me completely insane. I have the gum and the patch in my bathroom cabinet but haven't quite developed the urge to want to quit.

I drink way too much soda. It's probably the only drink I consume on most days. I hate water.

The healthiest thing i do is attend AA meetings and work with newcomers who are still suffering from alcoholism.  I work my steps on a daily basis and stay in recovery...thats what i do.

I think the healthiest thing I do in general is make myself get off my butt and do things every day.  I feel awful when I sit around too much.  I know a lot of stay at home moms have a hard time finding that motivation and end up sitting around feeling terrible.  I take walks almost daily.  Wish I could run but it leaves me absolutely crippled for a week after.  No soda, no fries, no fried food... which is easy because I don't even like them.

Most unhealthy habit is not exercising enough.  I used to work out a lot but I don't usually have anyone to watch my son now.  I like a good drink every now and then too.  Oh, and munchies... that's a HUGE weakness.  I love chocolate and candy and cookies and brownies.  I'm a bad influence on everyone around me too.

We had a "pot" going on at work.  Everybody put $10.00 in.  I began walking 3-5 miles a day, drinking tons and tons of water, kept away from Sugar and other carbs.  Lost 23 lbs.  The big pot was $200 +, we weighed in and some sneak came out of the wood work and he had lost like 27 lbs. He lost weight by eating the chicken menu at Taco Bell. What the Hell!!!!!  He got the pot, but I got $50.00 for being the biggest loser for the females.

I guess my 2 loves are food and money.  In this case the money won me over.  Now there's no money involved, I'm like constantly hungry. I too smoke.  I have my lozenges sitting right on my computer stand in front of me, just in case. They've been sitting there more than a couple of months and I've used 2 of them.

I don't drink water. I drink coffee with sweetner now instead of sugar.  I drink water and non-fat milk.  That's about the extent of my healthy lifestyle.

P.S. And I've also put about 5 lbs back on.  So I've got to at least get walking again.  It felt good when I was doing it.  Don't know why I stopped.

Well, I've just started a new exercise and diet plan, so my "healthy" is still shiny and novel for this round, lol.

Anyway, to answer the question:
1) Cut out the junk, like most processed foods, soda, fried stuff, fast-food stuff (barring some healthier options), etc.  Eat veggies, fruit, and proteins, cooked with very little extra fat.
2) Daily exercise, getting the heart rate up to an optimal workout level and keeping it there for a while.
3) Drink LOTS of water and healthy liquids, like tea, skim milk, veggie juice, etc.  I haven't cut out the beer and wine, but I've always been very moderate on those anyway, so I didn't feel the need.
4) Trust God, and follow Him the best I can.  This actually should be number one, since it's the reason I'm still sane and a pretty serene person most of the time.
5) Cuddle with my kitty.  Hey, she keeps the stress levels down.  And she gives good massages (mostly on my hopefully dwindling midsection, lol).

I'm still working on the sleep thing, since my body is still working on getting all the yucky stuff from before out of my system.  My energy levels are up and down due to that and the intense exercise, but I FEEL great and healthy, no matter what.
