The one you want most of all...
Since the big feed is in just a couple of days, what's the one food you are already thinking about? The thing you don't seem to get any time except when a holiday rolls around?

In my case, it would be my uber-nummy potatoes au gratin. They just take too long to make for most of the year, but as long as I'm going to be standing in the kitchen for most of the day anyway, there's no time like now to get them on the table.

How about you?

I found an awesome recipe for dressing in last year's Sunset magazine. Even my hubby likes it, & he's no fan of stuffing. I like it because it uses leeks & shallots instead of the usual Maripois saute, & it also calls for gorgonzola cheese. I love any & all kinds of cheese!

Its got to be Turkey. We usually only have turkey once or twice a year. I don't know why we don't have it more often. I love turkey i like the white meat and the crispy skin sprinkled with salt is my favorite. Left over turkey and cranberry sandwiches are the bomb.

I always look forward to the stuffing and mashed potatoes, but I eat those all the time anyway.  We don't really eat uncommon foods, but it all just seems different.  Thanksgiving stuffing and mashed potatoes are way better!

I'm just looking forward to seeing all my sisters.  They don't really live far away but they work so much, I rarely see them.  But I suppose crazy work schedules and multiple jobs are just part of living in LA.

OMG and my parents are already plotting a way to get my husband to have cranberries and milk at the same time...  they always play that trick on newbies.

madkow, I have to bite...what's the trick with cranberries and milk? Guess I'm a "newbie" too.

oohchild, I'm a cheese junkie, too! I have a great chardonnay sauce recipe. Pair the sauce with a log of goat cheese, spread it on crackers or baguette slices and add a little wine...yums :o)

I also have a stuffed turkey breast recipe that calls for fresh basil and jarlsberg cheese that's also wonderful.

It's not much of a trick- they just always try to get someone to have them at the same time.  It's practically a Thanksgiving tradition around our house.  A sour, tart fruit with milk... it tastes absolutely awful!  My husband's on to them, so they're trying to figure out a way to sneak it.  Evil parents-in-law ;)

Green pistachio jello salad. It's the one time of year I eat it.

This is the first time in 4 years that I get to spend Thanksgiving with my parents, so I guess that is what I am looking forward too.  The last time I saw my parents on Thanksgiving, my mom was in the hospital and we all thought she wasn't going to make it.  But her stubborn self did, and here we are finally together again!!

My grandma has since passed, but my Aunt makes her beans perfect . We have them every  Thanksgiving & Christmas. The entire family loves them.
