Movie magic
So, I went to go see "There Will be Blood" this weekend, just before the Oscars. As a big PT Anderson fan, I thought it was a good film and that Daniel Day Lewis was excellent. Unfortunately, I think that was almost the only film I saw this year that was up for an Oscar. Anyone see any of the others? I'm dying to see "No Country for Old Men" since I'm a big Coen brothers fan, but haven't gotten to it yet. And "Michael Clayton" since I can stare at George Clooney all day *sigh* Were they worthy, or not worth the effort? Anything out there flying under the radar that I should be on the lookout for? 3 comments from 3 users

I haven't seen any of the big movies this year, but I did see Elizabeth. I thought it was disappointing as well. It seemed to wander so much that there was hardly any plot by the end. posted by

We are big movie goers/watchers. And we have friends that belong to the Academy ..... so we usually see all the big titles. My only disappointment was "Elizabeth." The first one was so wonderful and this one was just OK. Cate Blanchet, who is my mother reincarnated! is beautiful and the costumes won the Oscar. I couldn't believe that "American Gangster" AND "3-10 to Yuma" did not get a nod. They were both terrific and very much worth watching. "Juno" was very, very good. I liked "Michael Clayton" very much - my significant other gave it a 6 (out of 10) - which means just average. "La Vin En Rose" was truly the best picture of the year. The actress was amazing and the story is biographic and so well done. posted by

La Vie En Rose was excellent. I saw it on DVD. I watched Michael Clayton this week end. It wasn't as good as I'd hoped for but American Gangster was really good. I guess I'm more the Russell Crowe type.
