Job hunt in Tehachapi

Hi! How does one find a job in Tehachapi? Do you need to know someone? I see that the want ads in this paper for jobs are scarce. The Bakersfield paper has even less ads for Tehachapi jobs. I am new to this area and am a good secretary and would like to find a local job. Any ideas how to go about it?

Good luck wrightmerm - I personally know half a dozen extremely skilled office people (recent transplants from La or OC) who are now working at Home Depot, Albertsons and K-Mart.

Try Edwards Air Force base - lots of jobs listed there that could be right up your alley.

Get involved with the community! A church or a club! Your bound to cross a few avenues!!

Getting a job here is no different than anywhere else... you watch the classified ads, network with the local business community, put yourself out there by applying for whatever is available, get your foot in the door wherever you can, take entry level positions if you have to, etc.... you know the drill.    Don't expect anyone to come knocking at your door, offering you the 'plum' jobs.   Get out there and grunt it out with everyone else.   If you are good, you will work your way to the top wherever you land.

It took me almost a year after moving here to find a permanent, full-time job. The good news is: once you find a position & prove your worth, employers around here are very anxious to keep you.

I worked some temp jobs here through an agency in Bakersfield before I got the job I have now. I'd suggest signing up with one; many times a temp position can turn into something more permanent.

Good luck & hang in there!

In the past few years the area population has multiplied 5-fold and the local employment base has doubled. Do the math.

There are no jobs. Especially secretarial.  Sure new business' abound, but how many employees do these little independently owned shops employ?  That leaves food service and if you are a US citizen and actually speak english fluently you probably don't qualify.

I would say, put on your shoes and hit the pavement.  You look like a nice young lady.  Maybe you can get a job with a nice young doctor or lawyer and be able to get married.  Then you don't have to work.  Of course, a widows pension is nothing to look forward to either.  Good luck to you my dear.

Hi Mary.  I know tehachapi unified school district is hiring for some secretarial job.  You should check it out!

Californiabeso could you tell me in which secretarial job is open at TUSD? I would like to know what information you might have. I haven't heard of one that is open.

wrightmerm  I would suggest the temp places in Bakersfield because I know places like GE and most of the bigger businesses hire from the temp agencies. If you want to get into the Tehachapi Unified School District you need to keep your eye on the paper and to get your foot in the door you might have to take that little 1.5 hour job offered that no one wants, Good jobs go internal (to employees within the district) first if not enough interest is generated then it the job will go public (to the news paper). So when the secretarial jobs do come up you would be in. You can always come in and fill out an application to be a sub which will at least give you  something until you find a permanent position somewhere else. As a sub you will still not be considered for internal jobs but it helps you get to know the people at the school sites when they do go public. Good Luck and welcome
