City Council Members Have Fundamentals Backwards....I Think??

I was just reading the TN article:

http://www.tehachapinews.com/home/ViewPost/81323

I know the Council members meant well in their remarks to the scouting group on their responsibilities concerning the City's finances, but I thought it interesting that several of them indicated that their job was to "spend the money" received from City services as wisely as possible. Now, correct me if I am wrong, but shouldn't their responsiblity be to first determine what services are required and then to determine how to fund those services? Income is not required unless services are required. Funding just doesn't come in to be spent on something (it should come in because it is required). I trust the Council members response was just a slip of the tongue in this informal gathering.

This just caught my eye, and I had to comment.

Weedpatch Thing......

It is truly heartwarming to see that so few readers here indulge in the Weedpatch thing.... I see that after our opinions were mutually shared regarding that publication, very few readers of this blog site engage in "viewing" the author's futile diatribes and rhetoric. I even noted in the recent past that zero readers viewed one writing. I raise my glass in a toast (either alcoholic or non-alcoholic, as you prefer) to those who refuse to "view" the drivel..........hear, hear!

News Discussion

I just read the TN article on Anna Gilbert regarding her law suit and situation with the many animals confiscated from her. The article is:

http://www.tehachapinews.com/home/ViewPost/74824

I don't much about that particular situation, but something caught my eye which I was wondering about: the article indicates she is wanted on two felony charges and that she would "turn herself in if......". The question I have is this: Is it not a responsibility of an attorney to make the whereabouts of his/her client known, etc. and to see with it that they comply with the law regarding answering to charges (and turning one's self in, etc.). Just curious, since I really have no knowledge of that area of the law.

Talk About Unequitable Sentence......

Did you catch the news regarding the sentence of Tanya Diane Brown who had pleaded guilty in a plea bargain to taking, and hiding, her children in a remote Tehachapi home? I just could not believe the lack of equitability in the sentence. Had this been a man, he would be behind bars, make no mistake. It is decisions like this that make me shrug my shoulders at the judicial system. Certainly, the person deserved more than what she got for, potentially, harming these children.

News or Advertising

Did anyone notice this item which was listed under "news":

http://www.tehachapinews.com/home/ViewPost/67997

When I read it, it seemed like an advertisement posted to get folks to buy houses. Then, when I saw it was authored by a firm engaged in real estate sales, it kind of ticked me off that the Tehachapi News would report this story under "News". The way the thing was written, if it was done in a way to avoid it appearing as an advertisement, it wasn't worded good.

At any rate, although I'm all for house sales and a good economy, it just seemed like it was done improperly. Could be that I'm just not in a good mood today. If so, I'll chalk it off to not getting enough sleep.......

High School Senior Prank: aka Vandalism

After I read the TN article regarding the "Senior Prank" I was mystified that some of the parents actually thought the punishment (not walking through graduation, remuneration for damages, etc) as too severe. On the contrary, I think charges should have been filed. Since when is vandalism not a crime? Surely at least a misdemeanor.

Pranks are harmless jokes. Pranks are not vandalism. The school board and administration needs to come down hard on anyone who vandalizes taxpayer property.

How would you like it if someone stole money from you? Well, they did. I paid property taxes which were effectively stolen by vandals. Other residents did too, and anyone who rents paid them because those taxes are passed along as part of rent charges. And, I don't care if they were students or not. They were criminals and need to face the correct consequences.

Harmless prank, yes. Vandalism NO. It's irrelevant that they might have been seniors.

Winter photos of the past.....

The News article on the winter snow photo got me to thinking about winters I have seen here over the many decades. Here is one from a winter not too distant (around 1988), and there was lots of snow. I don't think it got above freezing for about two weeks, and at one point there was well over a foot of snow on the street and eventually about 2 feet in the yard. Does anyone have some really good winter photos we can look at from year's past. A lot folks that are new haven't seen a really ferocious snowy winter.

Question on abortion penalties

With the leanings of the Supreme Court, I am curious as to opinions on whether or not a mother should be prosecuted for murder (as well as anyone who assists) if Roe v Wade were overturned. I saw this written about recently and the question was posed: Shouldn't any mother who gets a, then illegal, abortion also be prosecuted for murder? Obviously, if Roe V. Wade were overturned each State could then enact its own laws governing this. How should the State address this particular aspect?

Great WebCam & Weather Site for Tehachapi....Have you found some good WebCams?

I found a really outstanding WebCam for Tehachapi. It is associated with a weather monitoring site that is privately operated. The camera can be accessed at: http://www.mountainbase.com/Webcam/webcam.html and the weather site at: http://www.mountainbase.com/weather/index.html . If anyone wants to send their friends the link to this site, they can always see what is happening here. Usually, the WebCam is postcard perfect--I mean really good! The weather site has received commendations from the National Weather Service, and I believe it is used as a monitoring site in some respects for the NWS. It is located in Golden Hills. If anyone else has some good WebCam sites, perhaps it would be nice to post them here---your favorites?
