I have a question- Come this November when the state votes to make gay marriage unconstitutional, If it passes what happens with all the gays that got married. Will they still be considered married or will they loose that status. I my self will be voting against it. If all men are created equal then isn't it time to give them equal rights.

In our government, the courts have the last say on what is constitutional, and as they have already decided, and set a precident, I don't think any legislation has a chance of actually being implemented.

I was in tears of joy when I saw the elderly couple that have been together 55 years get married on TV today. It was absolutely beautiful.

Catnic....true, and since the polls show that 54% of Caiifornians and growing, now want gays to have the right to get married. My hope is that the court will not have to step in and do the right thing again. We Californians will decide to allow gays to get married in November.

A historic time... a wonderful time!

If the constitution is amended, then same-sex marriage will indeed be unconstitutional. I don't think the amendment would be considered retroactive, so those folks with licenses would still be married. They just wouldn't issue new ones.

I also hope our state is a leader in this issue & votes down any amendment. We have a good chance on this one. Everyone must vote this November in order to keep the dream alive!

You're right about the amendment. It's hard to imagine moving backwards on this and taking away people's rights. I find it really ironic that the people who are against it claim to be "pro-family." Maybe now that it's happening, people will be less afraid of it.

Between this and the presidential election, it should be a good voter turnout this year!

Yep, it's the rare amendment to constitutions that takes away rights of individuals. Usually changing the constitution means giving rights to more individuals (like voting & such.) Prohibition is a perfect example of an amendment that took rights from people. At least they realized their mistake with that one.
