Pagan Pride Fest a Success!

For those of you interested in the Pagan Pride Festival, here's an update on how things went on Sunday:

The first annual Kern County Pagan Pride Festival and Harvest Celebration on the Equinox, Sunday, September 21st was a huge success. Approximately five hundred people attended the event, and six hundred and ninety-five pounds of food were raised for the Community Action Partnership food bank in Bakersfield.

A circle of over fifty people joined hands as Kern County Pagan Pride President, Katie Olivares led an Equinox ritual in celebration of the harvest.

The crowd was entertained by musicians, “Lost Hills,”Archie Logsden, Aaron Novak, bands, Hauk and Three Chord Whore as well as belly dance troupes, Diosa, Tribal Underground and the Whitman Studio dancers.

People wandered through the “Magical Marketplace” and shopped for jewelry, ritual items, or got a henna tattoo. Pinwheels were decorated for the “Pinwheels for Peace” project in honor of the International Day of Peace. Children created magic wands using paint, ribbon and glitter and attendees participated in workshops on various topics such as healing, ghost hunting, belly dancing, candle magic, yoga and Heathenry.

The organizers would like to thank the generous Kern County Pagan community and friends for coming together, showing their support, and sharing in the magic of the day.

We would also like to thank the volunteers, workshop presenters, performers and vendors who made the event possible, and Altar Metaphysical Marketplace, which sponsored the fundraisers needed to host the event.

Come join us to celebrate the Harvest!

Admission to the festival is open to the public, and free with a donation of a non-perishable food item for a local food bank.

The day’s activities will include live music and dance performances, workshops, a ritual to celebrate the Harvest, craft vendors, psychic readers, healers and more. Children’s activities will include making pinwheels as part of the “Pinwheels for Peace” project.

Live musical performances will include Heathen heavy metal band Hauk, folk music by local peace and environmental activist “Lost Hills” Archie Logsdon, and local musicians Aaron Novak and Three Chord Whore. There will also be dance performances by the Tribal Underground belly dancers, and a modern ballet by Whitman Dance Studio.

Presentations will include a mediumship demonstration by Bakersfield psychic, Conan, as well as goddess, dreams, yoga, Witchcraft and Asatru workshops, and book signings by pagan authors.

Faerie Festival

Come celebrate the arrival of spring with the Faeries!

Kern County Pagan Pride, a newly formed chapter of the national organization, The Pagan Pride Project, is kicking off its fundraising efforts with a “Faerie Festival,” on Sunday, March 30th.

The public is invited to this family-friendly event. The proceeds will go towards holding the first Kern County Pagan Pride Festival in the fall.
