Bath Time vs. Play Time - Just a Quote - Colitas's Blog - Tehachapi News

When it is bath time in my home, it is play. I've had people tell me this is wrong. My question is Why? It's not homework time, it's not dinner time, it's not church, etc. Why is this wrong? Why can't kids have fun in the bath. I started this with my son and partly it was because of me. I was a single mom and this was "our time". He continues to play in the bath, he's 7, obviously not with me anymore. But he still has his bath toys and pretends to be in the ocean or whatever. Even when he is being "big" and takes a shower, he sings and has fun. Now I am married and my husband is one of many that doesn't understand. I don't understand his reasoning. I ask and he says "My mom didn't allow it. We got in, got cleaned and got out." My response is always "okay, why does it have to be that way for us?" He thinks I am just being difficult. But he's not the only one. We have 18 month old and I do the same with him. He has his own toys and we play. Am I not seeing something here? Please give me some opinions. Why is this wrong? What does it hurt?

I'd be curious to hear some reasoning from someone who doesn't think it's OK. I played in the tub as a kid and it was great. It was a time that wasn't church, or chores, or homework, or some other time where I had to be quiet, or busy doing something. It was time to have fun. Why is it that adults can relax in a tub but kids can't? Because kids don't have the stresses that adults do? Well, if kids aren't allowed to relax, then they WILL have the stresses that adults do!

I remember there was a gas station promotion going on one time where you could get this plastic Noah's Ark, and each time you went back you could get a pair of animals. I had a great time playing with that ark, it was so cool! Of course today they'd probably be outlawed because of choking possibility or whatever, but I sure had fun with them!

When my kids were small, they knew when it was bathtime, it was time to grab some of their favorite toys and get in the tub. The whole meaning of a bath is to get in the tub and relax. Shower time is bathe and get out, however they take forever in the shower now I still have a problem rushing them through this though. Sometimes I have to yell at them to save on the hot water. (There are 6 of them now).

When your'e a kid, it's not a good bath unless you are a prune when you get out.

I had 3 girls and a boy. Sometimes all 3 girls would be in the tub. After I got remarried, I had a step daughter and step son. The two boys are close in age and they shared a bath as well to play.

The boys are 13 and 11 now and still after they swim, they will go make a bath and get in together to warm up and play. (with their swimsuits on Jim)

If there is water involved it's play time with my two boys. This is something passed down in our genes. My father loved the water and I was a water baby myself. This has been passed on to my kids. Well actually my daughter would rather "relax" in the tub, but with my boys they got the toys they're splashing and squirting water out of their mouths at each other and trying to swim! lol

Heck my youngest even tries to soak himself while I water my lawn........this is strictly grandpas fault though. He can't seem to help himself! =)

All were teenagers with long hair. They took forever in the shower. I spent a lot of time banging on the bathroom door yelling at them to get out. We were always running out of hot water and the septic was always over flowing. My kids took many cold showers and so did I.........My kids all enjoyed playing in the bath, the boys the most. Toys all over the bathroom and water all over the floor. Now those were the days.
