OK guys, I've had a few hundred foster dogs over the past six years but this one has me stumped!
Meet Casey, who arrived here this morning. She's small, maybe 30 pounds, thin like a Saluki or whippet, those type of ears and some border collie coloring but no body features. She's set to get spayed this Wednesday and will be up for adoption. Help me decide what breed to call her so I can list on Petfinder.com.

I'm definately no expert, but looks like shepherd and something to me... maybe greyhound... although that would make for a pretty large dog!! Aren't there some breeds of terrier with that long face/nose? She reminds me a lot of a my high school boyfriend's dog...wish I could remember what kind of mutt she was! Good Luck!

I'd put her in as a Whippet mix. That head looks very sighthound-y. Also, the front carriage looks vertical and parallel like a racer-type dog (think cheetah) and the overall body type (rib spring, topline, height to length ratio) looks built for speed.

Well, thanks for all of the comments. I listed Casey this morning as a (drum roll please) Border collie colored Saluki. She isn't muscled up like a whippet (although she certainly runs like one!!), has prick ears and only weighs 30 pounds. She can fit her entire body under my gate (a place where my other dogs can't even stick their heads!) so I'm running out of rocks to put under the gate. She really does look Saluki without the longer ears. She came with a little tri-colored beagle named Loki-he's very cute. See my Dogs for Adoption section-I'm updating it tonight. We're twelve tonight and its a full moon...

Anyone out there who could provide a temporary home to three 2-month old terrier puppies living in a GH backyard. Its gonna snow! The three older dogs were already rescued..If you can help, call me at 823-0111 ASAP. Its alreday cold.

Leslie - For your info, the dog we rescued a while back (Cairn Terrier X, I believe) is due to have her puppies very soon. If anyone wants to adopt smaller mixed breed puppies in the next 60 days, please have them contact me. The poor girl's belly is getting big, so I'm guessing there will be multiples to find homes for. Susie

FYI for everyone: I rescue mostly owner-surrenders and strays because they have nowhere to go but to Mojave=almost certain death. If I get a dog that looks anything like ANY breed, I have a 32 page breed rescue list. I call/email/whatever the breed rescues-which are always full too! If I can move a purebred looking dog along, then there's more room for the next mutt that comes along. Some dogs are here a day, or a week or sometimes a year. I try to limit my dogs to 10-12, depending on size and mix. they all live in the house wth us-you should see my house on a wet day (like tomorrow perhaps, sigh.)

Sometimes I get to go to the shelters and rescue dogs-I love that because they're already fixed and I know I'm saving a life. There will be a cool story coming out in the 1/30 Tehachapi News about some successful adoption stories-wait until you see my little Xmas rescue for this year-little Dallas. It'll melt your heart!

Have a great evening. Ben says hello-he's turning into a house dog.
