What happened to the global warming post? - - GregL's Blog - Tehachapi News

It seems yesterday's post about the Liberal left trying to get the rest of us to 'wake up' about global warming has been deleted. It didn't appear to violate the newspapers guidelines. Hmmm....

Anyway, here's another thought to chew on. You can forecast all the doom and gloom you want about what is going to happen to the human race as the temperatures begin to rise, but the voices of reason state that the rise is natural, not man made. So then the question becomes, exactly what do you propose to do about inhibiting the earth's natural processes? Then, the second question becomes, don't you think that will cause more harm than good? And lastly, who are we to try?

The earth has been around a little longer than mankind. It has also gone through climate changes far more drastic than man has ever experienced. It's gotten a lot hotter and a lot colder than we've ever known. Isn't it a little pretentious of the human race to think that we can, or even should, try to 'tame' the earth? If the naturally rising temperatures mean the eventual death of man kind, maybe we should look at a way of getting off this planet, instead of trying to force it to do what we want, and really only making it worse in the end. I'm all for reducing pollution and emissions into the atmosphere and let's continue to find ways to reduce our impact upon the earth, but let's just get over the hype that we're causing the global temperature to rise.

Take a look up at the stars tonight, it may help put things in perspective. The human race is smaller than the smallest grain of sand on the largest beach. And as far as time is concerned, our solar system is an infant in terms of the universe, and mankind even younger than that. Maybe mankind wasn't meant to be on this earth forever. Maybe this is just a stepping stone to other planets, or even different planes of existence. My advice is to just let the earth go through it's natural processes. To try to do anything else is pretentious, hazardous, and wrong.

aero the independent who hates democrats. lol

Greg, I don't know what happened to the person who started the Global warming blog... maybe because she is a vampire she only comes out at night.. lol I think she was a friend of Mimis'.. she was interesting to say the least!!! Anyway... I don't know if this is a left or right issue, I think we should all be concerned about global warming no matter who or what is causing it. So I didn't do my research on Republican or Democratic websites. I went to reputable science websites like the one below. I think the very least we can do is try to limit our affect on global warming. That is the very least I can do for our grandchildren.

NASA http://www.nasa.gov/worldbook/global_warming_worldbook.html

Most scientists believe global warming is happening, only a few scientists disagree.

Global warming is an increase in the average temperature of Earth's surface. Since the late 1800's, the global average temperature has increased about 0.7 to 1.4 degrees F (0.4 to 0.8 degrees C). Many experts estimate that the average temperature will rise an additional 2.5 to 10.4 degrees F (1.4 to 5.8 degrees C) by 2100. That rate of increase would be much larger than most past rates of increase.

Scientists worry that human societies and natural ecosystems might not adapt to rapid climate changes. An ecosystem consists of the living organisms and physical environment in a particular area. Global warming could cause much harm, so countries throughout the world drafted an agreement called the Kyoto Protocol to help limit it.

Climatologists (scientists who study climate) have analyzed the global warming that has occurred since the late 1800's. A majority of climatologists have concluded that human activities are responsible for most of the warming. Human activities contribute to global warming by enhancing Earth's natural greenhouse effect. The greenhouse effect warms Earth's surface through a complex process involving sunlight, gases, and particles in the atmosphere. Gases that trap heat in the atmosphere are known as greenhouse gases

The main human activities that contribute to global warming are the burning of fossil fuels (coal, oil, and natural gas) and the clearing of land. Most of the burning occurs in automobiles, in factories, and in electric power plants that provide energy for houses and office buildings. The burning of fossil fuels creates carbon dioxide, whose chemical formula is CO2. CO2 is a greenhouse gas that slows the escape of heat into space. Trees and other plants remove CO2 from the air during photosynthesis, the process they use to produce food. The clearing of land contributes to the buildup of CO2 by reducing the rate at which the gas is removed from the atmosphere or by the decomposition of dead vegetation.

Why is everyone acting like global warming only started with "An Inconvenient Truth." I took plenty of college classes where those same charts and graphs used in Al Gore's movie were used as examples of the TRUTH of man-made, yes, man-made global warming before anyone had seen the movie. Just because Gore got it out to the mainstream does not mean it is a media frenzy and a leftist movement. The trends in the global temperatures rise and fall, ice ages, etc. But the numbers we are looking at now are incredibly high, and it is due to emissions made by man. There are so many anti-global warming organizations that try to sell us on, "trees need carbon dioxide to breathe" and "We are helping the cycle of life."

Well, we aren't when we are still sabotaging rain forests and relying on oil rather than renewable resources. It is not a conspiracy.

aero, just because you are pro choice does not make you part liberal... you could be pro choice simply to keep the non white population down for all I know. I have yet to see one pro liberal statement or blog come from you. You always post anti liberal blogs and statements. Thus, I don't think I am way off base thinking that you are not an independent and that you actually hate liberals. Heck anyone that reads your blogs or statements would think that. And geez so what if you are a conservative, you should be proud of it. Look at these other conservatives here, they know who they are and they are extremely proud. They want people to know who they are. It's called Pride. I respect that in them even if we do disagree on many issues.

Maybe I'm wrong... maybe we should do a blog on whether people think you are a conservative or independent??? What do you think? lol I'm teasing you aero. Again I'm sorry for hurting your feelings.

I won't watch the movie because it was made by Al Gore who is not credible. If he really believed the crap that he is spewing, he would practice what he preaches. He has two opportunities to do that. First, it has been identified that the beef industry contributes more carbon to the atmosphere than all the cars on the planet combined. PETA has pointed this out to Gore and called on him to become a Vegan or a Vegetarian to help the planet. But he won't. Secondly, his main residence has 20 times the carbon footprint than the national average. He was challenged by Oklahoma Senator James Inhofe to reduce his carbon footprint down to the national average and he refused. Instead he buys carbon credits, a luxury only the rich can afford. So what Al is really saying is all of the changes we should make to "save the earth" should be done by us...not him. He chooses to just buy his way out of his own responsibility to reduce pollutants.

Aero you always fall back on the same "you're attacking me", "you called me a liar" argument when someone makes an intelligent response to your posts. Just an FYI, that doesn't work, its not true and what you write speaks for itself. Sparks didn't call you anything. She refuted your statements intelligently and took the time to back up her own.

As for global warming, I'm still on the fence about the whole thing. Assuming it's true that humans can affect the weather of the entire planet by fertilizing crops, raising cattle, spewing industrial pollution, and driving their SUV's all over the place I don't see how its realistic to stop it. These are things that people cannot or will not do without. Al Gore himself shows that by refusing to sacrifice anything and he's the one who is supposed to be the poster child for why we should all be worried about it.

The affect on economies by trying to force reduced emissions for everything would not be good either. That will end up raising manufacturing costs, transportation costs, agricultural costs, etc. When everything costs twice as much because it costs twice as much to produce, and they can't supply as much "stuff" will everyone still be on the "save us from global warming" cause? I doubt it. As much of this pollution comes from third world nations just entering their industrial revolutions, who are we to say "You can't do that now! Its ruining the planet!" We went through our own industrial revolution and no one told us to stop. And wouldn't we have laughed at anyone who tried to tell us to?

I'm with Greg. Humans are a speck in the scheme of things. We will either adapt to the changes or we will go the way of the dinosaur. I'd like to think we have the big advantage of intelligence on our side.

Bloggers tend to get upset when you lift their articles wholesale and copy them to your own without credit.
This is an interesting chart but what people consider themselves to be does not actually mean thats what they are. In other words, this chart is not in any way objective, its completely subjective. This one would be more accurate I think:

Greg I'm watching the video now... i love it. Very informative. Thank you so much. These scientists believe there is a Global warming and it is a serious problem. No one is disputing that fact. Global warming is getting bad fast as indicated in the chart above. However the scientists in this documentary do not think global warming is man-made. In my research of Global warming most scientists do believe global warming is man made, but they could be wrong. How many times have scientist taken products off the shelf saying they were harmful only to put them back on the shelf again a few years later. Whether Gore was right or wrong, it's a good thing he brought Global Warming more powerfully to the public because whether we can stop it or not we are now more aware of the situation. This alone may save many lives ahead of time. Who really knows who's theory is correct. I still don't, i knew there was a Global Warming and I was hoping we could help the situation. However, I personally would like to think Global Warming is a natural process and that we had nothing to do with it. That doesn't mean that I won't fight for cleaner air and less co2 emissions. Because in truth I don't know for certain if these scientists are correct or not. Their "humans didn't do it theory" may be taken off the shelf in a few years from now. Again these are theories. Even if humans play a very small part in Global warming.. it's too much. And once again the majority of scientists believe humans are the cause of this severe case of Global warming. Who is right, who is wrong??? I don't know. However I loved the documentary Greg... it's good to see different views on a subject.

I'm with beekeeper... Let's clean up this planet so we can breath better... who knows it may help Global Warming as well... it certainly cannot hurt. Again i am saddened that this has become a political issue because I believe we should all be concerned about Global Warming. Earth.... it's where we all live.

aero it's not like we haven't debated issues on a personal level before. You have bashed my liberal azz many times.

As I said before, I did not call you a Liar..

Here's the scenario. There's a gay boy who wont tell anyone who he really is because he is afraid they will bash him and I am an openly gay women. Then I say " The difference between you and me is that I tell everyone the truth about who I am".

I wasn't calling the gay boy a liar, i was simply saying, I'm out of the closet unlike him.... SEE, this is how I meant it.

OH, but I do believe you hate democrats, but geez aero I tell you that all the time.

OOhchild - It was a simple yes or no question...will you reduce your footprint to the national average? The lack of a yes answer is a no answer no matter how he tries to spin it. If somebody on the street asked me for money for food and my answer to him is a lecture on how much I already give to the poor and turn around and walk away without giving him any money, what was my answer? After you weed through all the BS the answer was no, even though I didn't say it.

Did I watch the testimony? As if it makes a difference if I saw it live or saw it reported, yes I did see live the part that I wrote about.

And as far as how do I know it is crap? My son had to watch the movie in school (that's another pisser to me but I will leave that for later) so I asked him to tell me about it. I have never had a "global warming" discussion with him so I knew he would tell me exactly what he learned and not what he thought I wanted to hear. It was the same old slant that we have been hearing for years as somebody already pointed out in this blog. There was no new information just a new talking head saying it.

Scottso, why do you call aero on his pasting from another site but not Sparks when her entire blog titled "Veterans Against the Iraq War" was 100% copied from another site with no credit given to the author.
Hi Greg. Sorry but no better story than the cat cage flying forward after the near collision. The cat is slowly getting more courage though. Until yesterday only my daughter could coax him to come out of his hiding place in the garage. He finally came to me yesterday and let me hold her and he even started purring. But after that he still went and hid. Eventually I'm sure he will be comfortable enough to stay out in the open.

Inhofe was asking him to change his habbits at home and all he talked about is his businesses. Which brings me back to the same point which is he doesn't want to change personally at home. That is what the senator was asking and he deflected it by talking about what his business are doing to be carbon neutral.

Mar 30, 2007 at 06:03 AM : I disagree with you...

I disagree with you Scottso. There was nothing plainly sticking out about Sparks article that it wasn't her words. In fact as I already pointed out, it was obvious that Greg, who was one of the first people to comment, thought she had written the article and that is why he asked who she meant by "we". And, again as I pointed out, her answer to that question was simply that she comes from a military family, which sounds to me like she still didn't want to admit that she didn't write the article. I don't see any evidence in any other comments that people new it wasn't her speaking.
Scott, I don't think you have any ulterior motive. I just want to see fairness. I felt Aero was getting beat up on by several people so I wanted to point out that what he did was not unusual.

Sparks I remember you giving me kudos late last year for defending somebody on this blog from another. Now that my defense of Aero doesn't agree with you, you tell me to butt out (my words, not yours), Hmmm.

I agree with you about airbags and hybrids (good try but they suck) and how people should not PUSH the peddle so hard. I would be really interested in any information you find. Greg found the only documentary I have seen that does not believe that this is a human made global warming. Sadly this documentary is politically driven as well, it's a rebuttal to Gore's documentary. But if you can get pass all the bull in either of these documentaries, both are very interesting and credible. Here is the link for the righties document http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XttV2C6B8pU I have a feeling you have already seen A Inconvenient Truth. lol But I would like to keep this unpolitical...

Changing technologies doesn't have to mean a blow to our economy. Did the change from gas-based lighting to electrical lighting cause a (net) loss of jobs? Did the general population suffer economically when the automobile industry killed the horse & buggy companies?

ts1644 writes, "The auto industry improves fuel economy & emissions due to customer demands, not regulation." If this is true, then would you agree that customer demands will also increase the availability of "green" energy? And if Al Gore is using this energy, wouldn't that increase the demand for it, instead of gobbling it up so no one else can get it? If the demand for more green sources increases, then according to your own logic, more will be made available by the power companies. Wouldn't that be a good thing?

I agree. it's going to take me a long time to catch up with your knowledge of this subject though. I'm glad you are studying this issue. You can help us that are less informed.
</itunes:summary>

Man Sparks... you are amazing

1. you are in recovery and worked at a rehab and spoke on panels 15 years ago.

2. you were in the service from 80's to 90's AND can take an M16 apart and put it back together in less then a minute.

3. you had lunch with Cesar Chavez when you were a teenager and begged him to end the strike, so you could get a paycheck

4. your best friend is a chief engineer on a space project but you cant talk about it for security reasons

5. Your father worked for Aerospace... is there anything you havent done or anyone you do not know?? DANG! LUCKY

So now i need a timeline Ms. Sparks, you said you were in the military for most of the 80's and early 90's. But you also said that you got sober 15 years ago (1992) and a year later you were working in a rehab and speaking on panels. How did you manage a career in the military and drug addiction? Man i would have never been able to swing that. Hats off to ya! MAN! I guess you have done alot of things in your life.. Good for you.

Mar 30, 2007 at 01:03 PM : Thanks, yeah my life...

Thanks, yeah my life has been good, I have many friends and a lot of people who helped me along the way. I was in the military from 85 to 91, I didn't make a career of it like most in my family did. I was a weekend drinker, my drinking rarely affected my work. I got sober soon after I left the military and just a couple years later I was working at a rehab in L.A. AA was a very big part of my life, not so big anymore other than my webpage that helps AAers that are a bit different and have different needs. Hey as long as we help people who abuse alcohol to stop drinking it's all good!!!

My father was in the military for 22 years and then he worked for aerospace until he retired. Most of my family lives in Yuma AZ just 10 minutes from were Chavez was born in San Luis AZ.. so that is not too amazing in it's self. A lot of yumans hung out with him especially if they were picking fruit like I was. My computer business was layed in my lap by a good friend of mine which I worked for til the time she passed away with cancer in the year 2000. That's kind of when i retired, I have some great guys working for me, but it's just not the same without her being here. Having a best friend that is a chief engineer at Dryden isn't a big deal either ... I live in Tehachapi, most of us know someone that works at Edwards.

I'm glad you feel my life is amazing, but i am sure there are more amazing stories out there better than mine. For instance, Blaze is a pilot and flies often.. I find that very exciting and amazing. I actually envy him. Jim was a criminologist... now that IS very cool. etc. etc. The truth is I find your story more amazing than all of ours. I would like to hear more about it when you have time.
