Help! We need to get organized as rural communities to improve our emergency medical services. Has anyone ever heard of a county taxing a community to hire a private contractor (HALL) to improve emergency medical services?
On June 12th the County Board of Supervisors will propose a $125 increase in property taxes for Pine Mountain to improve our emergency medical service.
If it happens here to Pine Mountain, it will set the stage for all of Kern Couty rural areas.

Funny, I thought these were "special" communities to Harvey EGO Hall. I did not know a private contracter could impose a parcel tax to provide a private service. I also thought Harv was in this to be a special person... My other question is it sounds like Halls is running the company, wouldn't that be a conflict of interest with his other job as the mayor??

Horseshoe, could you please explain the basis for your statement "....Mr. Hall runs the county except for the county fire department." I'm not disagreeing with displeasure in Halls Ambulance Service coverage for Tehachapi, but unsupported general statements which seem to just be pointed nasty remarks at Mr. Hall don't help the situation. I greatly sympathize with your loss, but emotion may be driving the statement in question. Again, if you can provide support to show "Mr. Hall runs the county...." I'd like to know what it is. I hope the real estate business is going well up in Pine Mountain--a very nice place.

It will be very interesting next week to see what the Board of Supervisors does with the proposal to increase Pine Mountain property tax to pay for better service from Hall.

Real estate is ok here and it is a beautiful place. Karen

Anonymous-Mr. Hall obviously still manages his ambulance company so I think it is entirely appropriate to refer to his ambulance company as Hall's.

As far as the tax is concerned, the people in Pine Mt. would be pretty stupid to approve this tax increase just to have it go into Hall's pocket. It would be much wiser to vote to have the money go to the county fire department to start a firefighter paramedic program that wouldn't benefit just one person (HALL) but would benefit the whole community.

Vote no for Halls and end this stupidity.

Hi Red, Thanks for your interest. The $125 property tax increase would go directly to Hall Ambulance it has nothing to do with county firefighter/paramedics. A concern of mine is that if Pine Mountain agrees to the tax increase for better emergency coverage it will set a precedent for the whole county and basically stop any movement towards County Firefighter/ALS Paramedics. I believe that we need County Firefighter/ALS Firefighters in every rural fire station in the county. I was at a meeting tonight and Chief Thompson was there and said that we will within the year have at least 3 firefighters in all Kern County fire stations (we currently only have 2 in Pine Mountain). He also said that he is working on the paramedic issue. He said Hall would be used for transportation and that his hardest job is to convince Hall that he won't be put out of business. Karen

Shane is right! Hall/Halls/Hogwash. It doesnt matter what the ambulance is called. As to the conflict of interest. Read this:

www.emsa.cahwnet.gov/legislation/ch1_conflict.pdf (There is a underscore between the 1 and the c) It is from the Calfornia EMSA website and it is the rules that ALL Ambulances companies in California have to go by called Title 22. Hope that helps. The tax in Pine Mountain I think is being propsed due to the call volume in Pine Mountain does not even cover the cost of putting a ambulance up there part time, let alone full time. I know out in East Kern the Muroc Hospital District buys a ambulance then leases it to Hall Ambulance. All Hall does is staff it and do maintenance on it. The Hospital District also provides the building and Hall pays the utilities and furnishes it. Not a bad trade for a ambulance in far end East Kern County.

Maben, Mayben- Hall, Halls no one cares that's not what this blog is about.

trucker1- Did you know that even with all the extras Muroc Hospital District gives Hall he still does not keep that ambulance in Boron? Case in point, just 10 minutes ago the Boron Ambulance responded from Mojave. It was there covering the entire desert. He will do the same in PMC!

I am sorry for posting as anonymous . I do it because I have no backbone. Yes I live in New York and part time in Idaho, but I have no life. Thats why I make commits in a town newspaper thats many miles from my home. Please forgive me for correcting everyone's grammar and spelling, it makes me feel better to make you guys look dumb. I encourage Horseshoe to delete me from this thread. Once again please forgive me, my shrink is trying to get me on the right meds, but has been unsuccessful so far. When I grow up I will post under a real pic and profile.

Jun 7, 2007 at 01:06 AM : Trucker1 you are...

Trucker1 you are correct as to low call volume in PMC. It is obvious that is why Harvey wants to tax the citizens of PMC in order to pay for the ambulance to be stationed there 24/7. What's strange is that Hall stations an ambulance in PMC on the weekends and does not ask for any payment. I guess he did this because he's a caring person? (NOT!) Mr. Hall doesn't do anything for free. He baited the community by placing this ambulance there and now in order to have it stationed 5 more days a week in PMC he wants the community to pay for it by taxing ALL properties (regardless if it's just a parcel lot or an occupied lot). I believe that if this tax does not go through he'll pull the weekend rig out of Pine Mountain. Harvey has plenty of cash (4 million plus yearly according to a source downtown) and it is unfortunate that money is more important than a life. I just hope that Mr. Hall or "his family" is never in a situation where he has to wait for Paramedic service because the area has "low call volume" and a rig was not stationed in the area for that reason.

NO ON HALL PROPERTY TAX

Who will provide the emergency services to PMC or Tehachapi if Hall Ambulance pulls out of these areas? The citizens are in a no-win position while Harvey Hall really can't lose. Capitalism at its worst perhaps?

Hello. I'm sorry but I have to appologize for my ignorance on all that is occuring. I have never used an ambulance in my 6 years here(PMC). Praise God!! I realize that we live in a rural community and yes we chose to live here. Why don't we fight for a hospital in our area!! Would this help. Why should I have to be transported to Valencia or Bakersfield for care? I think the same holds true for our friends in Tehachapi, Mojave, and Boron area. There's LOTS of room for a hospital in Mojave!! From what I hear, the hospital in Tehachapi is basically a clinic (again, I've never been there). Put a hospital in Mojave and one at Tejon Ranch (next to IKEA). Fight for what's right!!!

Heard the ambulance responding to a call in Stallion Springs yesterday was coming from MOJAVE. Shane is right. Hall dispatch moves those ambulances around so much it's like a giant game of 3 Card Monty. Pine Mountain's will be covering from the base of the Grapevine. If that parcel tax is approved in Pine Mountain, I wonder if HallS will try and get a parcel tax passed in Tehachapi to pay for his Golden Hills station???? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm.... Read the Grand Jury report. I would like to hear what Cox, or Corrum has to say since Harv's not running the company. Furthermore, if Harv isn't running the company because it would be a conflict of interest, how come HallS shows up every time there is an award or photoop for something the company is involved in........ Ego? $$$. Hmmmm. Read the Grand Jury report.
