Flotsam and Jetsam Post-holiday Thoughts

I survived the holidays. I even made it through with a minimum of despression. I didn't shop, decorate, bake - no pressure of any kind. No stress for a change. I donated money to various charities and shelters in the names of all my spoiled rotten grandchildren. My husband who was not supposed to give me anything, showered me with wonderful gifts, including a digital camera. We spent Christmas Day at our oldest daughter's home. She doesn't as a rule like to entertain or cook, but she did a marvelous job. I had to make the glaze for the ham (good ol' southern style - Coca Cola and brown sugar). When we arrived, my 9-year-old granddaughter came running outside to meet us and I saw my past approaching. She was dressed head-to-toe in the style clothes I used to wear in the 60's right down to the peace symbol. She looked like a little "English bird". The best laugh of the day was when my 7-year-old grandson was asked by his 16-year-old cousin "why doncha man-up?" to which he replied with a straight face "are you gonna baby-down?". These same two grandkids were up here for this past weekend. They had hoped for snow...but all we got was a wee bit of rain. They never want to go home...especially the grandson, he adores his "Papa".

How happy I am that my husband does not like football...

I was saddened by the death of John Travolta's 16-year-old son. What a horrid way to begin a new year. It makes me wonder what else is ahead. I watched the history channel program on Nostradamus and Cayce. How many people did that frighten I wonder? December 21, 2012...

I was in KMart a few days before Christmas...and they already had their Valentine shit out...sigh.
