Sorry about deleting the Ritter blog but it became something that was not pleasant to read. Someone hijacked the blog and changed the header to show a "mug shot" of Ritter. My access to the new header did not show the blogger's name nor did it display an option to delete that particular posting. I have no idea how it was done.

The content became disturbing to some bloggers, including me, so I just dumped it. The initial purpose of the blog was lost in all the volatile postings. I apologize if my deleting it all was the wrong way to go.

HOWEVER, I can spot from 2000 miles away that those are not PD's words. Not at all. This really does make me feel sick to my stomach... Okay, bloggers, you've got my attention.

First of all, I have to remind you to please use the "report a violation" button as soon as you feel something needs our attention. If that doesn't generate the response you'd like, please call us at 822-6828 and ask to speak to me or our Managing Editor, Peter DeArmond.

Second: The blogs with the alleged violations are no longer visible. Once deleted, they've gone out into the ether world, so I have no evidence to support these claims.

Third: I'll put in a request for our tech staff to do some snooping, but I'm fairly certain the only way that anyone other than the blog's owner can access said blog is via your password.

Fourth: Having said that, you all know that anyone can create a profile using any name or moniker that is not already taken. All it takes is an email address. If you feel someone is attempting to "impersonate" you - use the violation button immediately!

Fifth: We are able to block an IP address, but without clear evidence of a violation, this would be unethical - in my opinion. I've asked the principal parties to contact me so they can give me their account of what transpired here. I hope an accord can be reached and appropriate words of peace can be exchanged. Words are indeed, powerful little creatures.

Finally: I've said it before and I'll say it again: This blog is what you bloggers choose to make of it. Regrettably, the Tehachapi News can't babysit 24/7. That doesn't mean we won't respond to you if you make reasonable efforts to contact and properly inform us of the situation. I wish I had more time to interact with all of you, because I've actually grown rather fond of most of you. Others...not so much. But a lack of agreement or affection doesn't preclude civility - in any forum.

Calmcoinc could clarify what he did. At first I thought my account had been hijacked, later I realized that he had merely made his postings appear to be ours by copying the fonts.

As for the mug shots, due to some programming bug, it occurs when a large cut-and-paste is applied in the comment box. That had happened here this morning, the blog owner needs to just delete that post, if the poster is too rude to do it themselves.

Editor - I did report the violation immediately, twice, about 5:45 yesterday afternoon. The first, when I thought my account had been hijacked, the second a few minutes later when I realized that only the fonts had been imitated. As for the evidence, the offending posts are cut and paste above. I had a feeling that Clamcoinc would delete them.

Anyway, I'm not asking you to police the sandbox. Some kids just don't play well with others. Nothing new about that.

Riceme, this is a drupal open source site with many modules, the best CMS around ... banning IP addresses can easily be done. There is also status report module that the administrator can read that will inform him/her of all the going-ons on this site and when. If indeed someone has hacked other people's blogs/posts there is a way to find out who it is by the IP address. If you want to take this further, you can even find out who owns the IP address legally.

I agree that is NOT a PD post (above), and I have personally met Bohammond...wonderful, peace-loving guy, the above certainly doesn't sound like anything he would say either, since he is for more government, and pro government. None of this makes sense.

I am familiar with the CHPV, OldBlue, and Clam gang. CHPV flies the confederate flag in front of his house which scares his neighbors, Oldblue his buddy, is obviously a bigot as well from arguments I have had with him in past posts and Clam well, he's the top clown in the gang. lol

For Carin's benefit, PD and I have never agreed on a single thing, and have argued viciously most anytime we exchange words. We've no love lost for each other. However, standing-up for who and what I believe in is far, far more important to me than any personal or political differences that I may have with someone. I know that Sparks just said that you can look to see who did what to whom on some log, but I wanted to draw that point on my statement that those were not PD's words.

PD is absolutely right, I can't view the blog any longer but a copy of a large html page that is pasted into a blog will throw the blog out off whack. This I don't think is done with malicious intent. Copying other people's posts, editing them using the same font, then reposting them is wrong, and should be reported as a violation, it is not however hacking a site. I don't think this site was hacked, quite frankly I don't think anyone who would do such a devious thing on this blog has the know-how to do it. As the Editor has pointed out, if you want personal attacks to stop you will HAVE to inform them, I don't keep an eye on every single post in every website I have either, it's impossible. The administrator of this site doesn't know what is going on unless YOU REPORT it to him/her. Once he/she does knows, it will be easier for him/her to prove, An Admin can even prove that the blog once existed if it gets deleted, however once a blog is deleted all content is lost forever.

Bottom line:

Whether these guys are shady charactors or not...they simply do not know how to hack this site.

Sorry if I'm slow on the uptake here, but what I see above clearly looks like you and bohammond saying "blah, blah, blah". I'm not catching how clamco could accomplish that, with your nicks and pictures on the left, then mimicking the fonts.

Check out how on what is supposed to be PD's post, in the time/date stamp, the "p" in "PM" is lowercase, so it reads as such: "pM". Now I'm seeing some other little things, like a one space indent on the PD post where there shouldn't be one, and that there's black text where there should be grey text... Maybe I'm catching on.

This gives me an icky feeling inside. "Mama no like."

I know it's a little off topic, but since we're talking about website stuff, every time I click on a comment from the Recent Comment page, it only takes me to the first page of comments. For any comment that is on the first page, it will take me right there, but for any comment that is after the first page, it takes me just to the first page, then I must click on the last page number then scroll to the bottom. Is it just me, or does everyone have to do this?

And another thing! The friggin' server that this site is on is BOGUS! It hangs quite often, and every once in a while, I'll have to completely re-enter a comment because the server lost it while it was floating around! (I know, COPY before I hit Submit). WTF!

OK, I feel better now.

The server on this site is a decent server. Most servers reset once a day and or get caught up a bit while performing necessary actions. This is a popular site and with all the baud being used by numerous visitors and bloggers it has to cron more often. Actually this server does well since it probably crons every 5 minutes. Databases, and Internet servers are not perfect yet, perhaps in the near future they will be. As for the comments page, I have never had the problem you and Riceme speak of, are you two on a Mac by any chance? What browsers are you using?

Sparks, I absolutely do not own a Mac. I had to try to operate one for the first time in my life just this weekend, and I kept having to fight the urge to yank it out of the wall and throw it out the window. Yeah, I know... I have a short temper. It's one of my "development needs".

I am a very unhappy user of IE. Have been pondering giving Google Chrome a shot, but am waiting a little while before I do so.

Yep, Macs are different and take a while to learn, but there are no better puters in the world, once you learn how to operate them. I can't tell you how many computers I have wanted to throw out the window, I can't figure this crap OUT. UGH.. lol

If you are using a PC with IE you should be able to see the comment pages here just fine. Greg uses a Mac, he may want to upgrade to a newer browser.

As for losing a comment when you post them...it happens on most blogs now and then, shouldn't happen too often though, or I would say something about it. Have you tried paying your bills online lately, or bought something online? Dammit people, we need better databases and server connections on the net... calling all open source geeks.................

We simple little web designers/ light weight programmers don't have the knowledge to help the true geeks, we too are waiting for improvements. Until then we will have to deal. Heavy traffic makes the TN blog have issues now and again...nothing the designer can do about that except upgrade to something better, which isn't available yet. Most businesses can't afford the server google uses... lol

Just got back from errand running and finally finished reading postings from Carin. By the way, I really like the changes made to the TN since you took over. However, I did report a violation on the changing of the header on the Ritter blog. I punched that button several days ago and complained about the unknown hacker.

After a few days had passed, I just assumed the violation button was there to make me feel like I'd taken care of the problem. When there seemed to be no reaction, I took down the blog and that's why there is no way to see it now. There never was any identity to the person who changed the header. I didn't think to punch the violation button again. But, I have a strong hunch that it won't happen again. I am hopeful that further posts will not end up in the same manner.

Well, I just tried clicking on your above comment from the Recent Comment page using Safari and Firefox and both times it took me to the first page of comments only. Then I booted my Mac in Windows (yuk) and used the Windows version of Safari and got the same result. This is nothing new for me, it's been happening for as long as I can remember, I just decided to bring it up now.

Are you saying when you go to the View More Comments page and click on a comment that is say on the 3rd page of a blog ...it doesn't take you to the 3rd page where the comment is, it takes you to the first page of the blog only? If that is what you are saying, then there is nothing wrong with your browsers, that is the way this site works, they don't have a better module out yet for this version of CMS. There is a new version of Drupal out that has a great module that does take you right to the comment. But please don't ask TN to update their entire site to the new version of Drupal yet until all the bugs are out of it. Making grungehobbit.com has been difficult to creative because it lacks so many features that are possible in this version and not the new one.

Clicking on a comment on the comment page will only take you to the first page of the Blog the comment is in, not to the comment directly, this happens to EVERYONE who visits this site, there isn't much that can be done about it right now. Yep, it's irritating... lol Sorry I misunderstood you.

Greg, right, I understand what you are saying now. There is no current fix to that problem , we will just have to deal with it. Until there are available updates for the webmaster of the TN to use.

Try to remember that in order not to give Bill Gates and other software companies thousands of dollars, some smaller businesses prefer to use open source for the creation of their site, which is free. Open source is not perfect, but it is well worth putting up with in order not to be nickeled and dimed to death every time you need a upgrade of your software.. Upgrades can be as much as $1,000 a pop and can occur annually.. Open source sites, like this TN site is always free, other than paying for a webmaster to maintain this site which can cost in the many thousands as well.

P.S. Trust me, with the 2 or 3 little ads they have on this site, they are not making any money, in fact they are most likely losing money on this site..

No prob, Sparks! I just assumed that this software was some megabucks software package. Speaking of which, the current state of many commercial software packages out in the world is horrid, but I suppose it's all about the bottom line, as most everything is. BTW, I read a really great story about the team that develops the software for the space shuttle. It's absolutely amazing how they pre plan everything and don't even write one line of code until they've flowcharted the whole thing to death, so basically by the time they write their first line of code it's complete. Amazing! When I write code for microprocessors I dive right in with nothing more than an idea in my head and take it from there (with lots of revising!), but that's the way that works for me.

I would suggest that people that do this kind of thing have no respect for honesty and fair play. That they are, in fact, liars. As I said earlier on people in this Country are sick and tired of lying and smearing ones political opponents. And to think our local bunch couldn't even take being busted for a typo! Aww.

Perhaps they couldn't make their point because there was no point to be made. The accusations against Scott Ritter are, in my opinion, manufactured. This is what he says and I believe him. One can research these mysterious and unconventional accusations on the Internet as I know you have and apparently come away with different conclusions. I agree something happened back in 2001 and that the circumstances around it are far from clear. This does not translate to Scott Ritter being a child molester in my book. Anyway, all very interesting.
