Is the City of Tehachapi OUT Of Its MIND??

So what genius at City Hall thought that cutting off water to forty men, women, and children was an appropriate response to an accounts-receivable problem with the owner of their trailer court??

What, pray tell, did this city-empowered-to-approve-idiot expect the victims of their landlords' malfeasance to DO about it? Where did they expect these people to go? Who thought that making 17 houses unlivable at Christmas was a good idea? Has that person even heard of placing a lien?

Considering that the State apparently attempted to reason with our fine civil servants, that obstainate official must be the City Manager. One would hope at least the mayor would be aware of such an outrage.

Bogus Ads in the Tehachapi News

Is anyone else here disturbed by the Tehachapi News' continued on-line promotion of advertisements for classic late-60's muscle cars at 10 cents on the dollar prices?

Here's a guy in South Dakota that apparently must resort to national publication of an ad in order to sell his classic ride for $5,700.

It doesn't take a detective to know that any response to this guy will get you Porn and Viagra come-ons in your In-Box - if you're lucky - and annoying calls from Nigerian-Style bank-scam artists, if you're not. Has anybody followed up on one of these ads?

Clamcoinc Hacks Own Blog, Posts Idiocy

Anyone who supposes that bohammond or myself has actually made the posts represented as ours on Clamcoinc's idiotic anti-Hillybeans site should be warned of his unethical behaviour. (see below).

Apparently unsatisifed with his status of a Bush/Cheney bootlicker, he is apparently determined to borrow the same dirty tricks as his heros and make false attributions to his political opponents.

That such behavior represents a violation of this site is obvious. That it represents repulsive behaviour of which only the lowest of human beings would indulge is only to be expected.

The "man" deserves censure - and a wide berth.

It turns out that not only "idiot" trespassers cause accidents on railroad tracks.

According to Metrolink spokesman, their engineer caused the horrific accident between the Metrolink and a Union Pacific freight train near Chatsworth that resulted in the deaths of 25 people on Friday by not seeing or not observing a red light at which he was supposed to stop to allow the freight train to pass before continuing.

Gee - so if a light goes out, or a guy blows it off, over a hundred people are killed or injured? Gimme a break - the trains are on tracks, GPS is everywhere now, computers can follow every movement....Is it so difficult to create a system which detects and disables trains who have gone through such an easily defeated visual signal?

Well -- ummm...no ----- it isn't....

(National Traffic Safety Board spokeman) Higgins said that Positive Train Control, which can override control of the train, could have prevented this crash.

"We've made this recommendation for over 30 years," Higgins said.

She said the road barriers to using the technology are "the will and the wallet."

"People make mistakes. The question is, 'How can we use technology to essentially to provide a safety net?'" Higgins said.

Had positive train control been implemented, if the train had gone through the red light, it would have stopped, she said.

30 years of knowing how to prevent these accidents, and yet we still rely on an engineer seeing and obeying a red light. That should be astounding - except it took longer than that for railroads to use standardized knuckle type couplers, and almost as long to install air brakes. Of course, that industry has its groupies and enablers who insist that no problems exist, even as the safety of its workers and the public continues to be compromised by such short-sighted penny-pinching.

I guess we could be further behind the times and just count on loud whistles to prevent accidents....like we do at some of the crossings here in Tehachapi. And I'm sure nobody wants to create a <shudder> Regulation, as we can count on industry to do the right thing. I know I wouldn't want to change anything!
