As far as being familiar with "those people" yes you could say i am familiar with THAT crowd. We all screw up. Just because somebody is a drug dealer doesn't necessarily make them a bad person. Last time I checked dealing drugs and killing people were very different crimes. Some of Tehachapi's finest citizens are drug users and have been known to deal as well. These are people we praise and AWARD. You'd never accuse those fine upstanding citizens of murdering anybody because you don't have any idea that those people are drug dealers. So all I'm saying is that we should try not to judge so quickly.

I love it here in this town and feel much safer than I would in Bakersfield or Lancaster. Of course some criminals come here to probably sponge off of their relatives, but they must feel much better in a local where they can get lost in the crowds or side streets or alleys. Drug dealers are nothing more than recreational pharmacists. If there weren't DRUG USERS in tehachapi (or anywhere else for that matter) there would be no DRUG DEALERS! It is simpy supply and demand.

Whoever said drug dealers ruin lives are completely mis-placing blame. Drug Dealers supply a product, they do not force people to buy it, they do no force people to use it, they do not force people to become addicted and neglect their families/lives...etc. They simply offer a product, if someone chooses to purchase it and use it that is on them. These are not children we are talking about, grown men and women capable of making informed, educated decisions.

many doctors are puppets of the pharmaceutical industry; they're nothing but glorified drug dealers! Perhaps we should track them all down and hang them also...

Stop blaming the person that supplies the product and realize the person/people that chose to use the product are doing that of their own volition. To blame a drug dealer for someone elses actions/problems/deficiencies is just as smart as blaming fast food for making people fat and television for making people lazy.

Olivia, I wasn't actually responding to your posts directly so please don't take my comment personally. ;) I was actually responding to a comment on the first page before I realized there were 2 more pages so I was late to the conversation.

In any case, I'm mixed on whether the system is broken. Ultimately trial verdicts are decided by juries. Juries even have the ability to disagree with the judge and pronounce someone not guilty -- even if their pronouncement is contrary to the law. Its called Jury Nullification ([url]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jury_nullification[/url]). Judges don't like it and you will rarely hear any judge instruct a jury that this option is available. They typically say "You are here to decide the facts of the case, not interpret the law." So ultimately if the system is failing I blame jurors who usually look for any excuse to get out of jury duty to begin with, and rarely take the time to truly learn how the courts and juror systems are supposed to work at all. I don't know why the jury let OJ off the hook, but I'm sure they had their reasons, good or bad. And thats exactly the reason its THEIR fault. They are the ones that said "Not Guilty" and it is their responsibility. Thats why jury duty should not be taken lightly. Obviously the civil suit against him went the opposite way. ;)

All that said, I'm sure this guy is a criminal of some sort and does some other crimes that may or may not be as heinous as murder. But he's still innocent until its PROVEN that he's guilty. The mindset that says because someone is arrested they are probably guilty, or because they ran and hid they must have something to hide is a dangerous one. That isn't presumption of innocence. Thats presumption of guilt based on the idea that he was possibly guilty of some other unrelated crime or he "acted" guilty or he had a "bad" history. The idea is that it is better to let a few criminals get away than put one innocent person in prison and I believe that. The system isn't perfect by any means, because people are not perfect, but so far its the best one in the world.

Drug dealers do not need to market thier products, they sell and they sell quickly and consistently. It is very funny how you all are so opinionated yet when you encounter someone who has a different opinion you attack them and fly off the handle. Perhaps that is just part of living in a small town for you? I do have children and in that situation I would never place the blame on the person who was selling the drugs. They are obviously breaking the law but if you think for one second that they are pushing/pressuring and convincing children to do drugs you are wrong. If you want to misplace blame because people don;t know how to raise thier children or the children don;t have enough sense to know right from wrong so be it..

If you really believe people who sell drugs are out on the street prowling for children to make into addicts you watch too many movies. The people introducing children to drugs are their peers not some freak hanging around in a van at recess. Like I said before, drugs sell themselves. (When is the last time you saw a billboard promoting meth? )

If a 30 year old drug dealer was selling drugs to my children then obviously I did not do my job as a parent because for some reason my child wanted to drugs and knew where to get them. (Where would I be when my child was around 30 year olds? Why would he have money for drugs that I did not know about?) My children, my responsibility.

I never claimed that drug dealers were fine upstanding members of society however I am sure some of them probably are. Can you see behind closed doors? And of course I don't want my neighbors to have a meth lab. If they did I'd be the first one working to get them out of my neighborhood. Just because I feel that people no longer want to be accountable for their actions and just misplace blame to diminish their responsibility does not mean I support drugs/drug dealers.

I don't use drugs nor do I agree that is a healthy lifestyle but I am saying you cannot blame drug dealers. People make their own decisions and need to be held accountable for their actions. You can't blame one source of the problem because that will NEVER solve the problem.

So, Smokey, where do you think the drugs that the "peers" are sharing come from? Knock on wood, that my children have never tried drugs. But I think that it's luck of the dice. There are plenty of kids out there who come from a good background that do use drugs. Little kids. I know adults who started using drugs at 12 and 13. I think that's heartbreaking. Drug dealers are not discreet. There is no sign on their door saying "We ID". I'd be pissed at the cashier who sold my child booze too. There are regulations on that though, so it's the "adults" again, who are willing to go into the store and buy booze for the child. Those people are no better than the drug dealer.

Drug Dealers suck, I have no problem putting my nose in the air at them. They aid and abet those that are weak in order to keep themselves in dope and cash. Hang em!! On this subject.....YES, I'm extremely closed minded on this subject. Keep the drug dealers in prison, educate the addict.

I don't think I'm having any harder of a time accepting the differing points of view than you are. Drug dealers aren't my thing that's all. For personal reasons, I have come to see them as predators.

Smokey you need to chill out. If Trouble said that to me I'd probably laugh. Do you think I know the guy? I don't. Just because he says "me and my road dawg GregL" doesn't mean we hang. It's brash kidding around, and if you want to take it personally that's your choice.

Maybe people are lashing out at you because they find the notion that not blaming drug dealers for what they really are to be repulsive, as I do. I think it's great that you feel so highly about personal responsibility, I feel the same way. This world would be a much better place if everyone took responsibility for their actions. But drug dealers are breaking the law. BTW, why do you think they're called 'pushers'? Is it because people are flocking to them to buy drugs? Some are but not all, and drug dealers are certainly not the entire problem, but you seem to imply that they have no bearing on people doing drugs. Which came first, the chicken or the egg? It's true, if there were no drug users, there wouldn't be any drug dealers. But it's also true that if there weren't any drug dealers there wouldn't be drug users.

You can attack the drug dealers but that will never cause any long term solution. You can go and throw every dealer in town in jail and by the following week they will be replaced. There's alot of people willing to risk their freedom to make a few quick dollers. As long as you have drugs users you have people that will see an oppurtunity, and you will have drug dealers. The problem needs to be addressed at it's core, at the people that are using drugs. That does NOT mean I am sticking up for drug dealers. I have already posted that I don't think that is a health lifestyle or one I agree with but that point never seems to stick. All I am saying and have been saying is you cannot blame them for the decisions grown men and women make to use drugs.

Regardless, this whole blog has shown me that in a small town perhaps it is best to just smile and nod and keep your lips sealed. I am appauled by some of the comments directed at me and the anger/intent behind them. I am appauled that the same people who protested that there was no lynch mob mentality in this blogging env't are some of the same people attacking me. I am appauled that the people who claim to hold this blog medium to a hgh standard have nothing to say when someone is being spoken down to and disrespected.

Ok, here goes, I have been clean for 3.2 years now. In my previous life I was an addict AND a dealer. When I sold dope, i took peoples $, jewelry, stolen property, food stamps WHATEVER....In the addicts last attempt to get high at ANY cost. The sickness is just that a disease. Now that I look back on that...WHAT GAVE ME THE RIGHT TO FEED A SICK PERSONS ILLNESS???? Nothing gave me that right!! I took it upon myself to support my own habit by hurting other people. I didnt care about anything. I know for a fact, and saw people that were casual users turned into full blown dope fiends because I gave/sold them dope on a regular basis. So dont you tell me SMOKEY that drug dealers arent to blame for any of this, BECAUSE THEY ARE. I even gave someone dope for their first time or sold them dope after a LONG stint of clean time. HOW DARE ME!!!! I was SO caught up in my own self I stepped on and hurt others and didnt care, as long as I could get that SACK. I raised both my kids through all this BS and drug them through the mud. The ripple effect of this disease is staggering. God saved me and I am a different person now...but I refuse to accept SMOKEY and her defense of the "harmless dealer".

OMG Smokey, get over it. The original blog was about the guy getting arrested. Great, if he is guilty I hope they keep him for a looooong while. If he's innocent, then I hope the justice system works and he is set free. Hopefully, he will have learned a lesson and leave that lifestyle.

Listen here "WAWA" ... I don't know what you think you are talking about but I happened to be Olivia's daughter. You know, the one you called "closed-minded" and you would have been driven to use drugs had she been your parent. How ridiculous are you? I'm her oldest and I have never had the urge to use any sort of drug ... at all (as with her other children). I've tried nothing. I've been pressured into nothing. That is something I take a lot of pride in and that is something I credit my mother with. Fortunately, I've had experiences in my life that made me choose my own path. That was a direct result from my mother's parenting. My mom is not closed-minded. My mother did her best to teach all her kids right from wrong. It is the child's decision to heed the advice of their parents. I chose to. Some don’t.

I have the same opinion of drug dealers as Olivia does. They chose this path due to money, addiction, and selfishness. Some blame lay with the addict as well. But the addict is just that … an ADDICT. Have you ever seen what addiction can do? Have you ever seen what addiction can do to a once fully functional human being? Apparently, you have not.

My mom has been trying to get me on here to blog for weeks but not until this a-hole came on here and made an obtuse comment against my mother had I actually wanted to post.
