Energy Education through Community Gardening...Join the Fun!

A recent article on the hill called: "Kids Will Eat What They Grow..."; about the community garden project in Stallion Springs prompted the Kern Energy Education Partnership KEEP to respond with our greatest form of flattery...duplication!

Scroll down to page 13 to read the article.

Since it was the Police Athletics League PAL of Stallion Springs that organized the event, in partnership with the SS Community Service CSD, and brought together the youth who are learning the proper use of shovels...we contacted the Tehachapi Collaborative, the Golden Hills CSD, the firesafety council and the Sheriff's substation, to promote the beginnings of an effort to bring the Sheriff's Athletic League SAL Program to Golden Hills and other At-Risk areas of Eastern Kern, to turn the police and deputies into mentors.

Perhaps the reader is wondering what energy education has to do with community gardens? Others have asked the same; including one of the nursery owners who would benefit financially from increase gardening activity in the Tehachapi Valley...it takes energy to grow gardens! DuH!! Why not turn the ag farms and community garden plots into energy farms? Ask your local school admin/board members to support Community Ag Farms. We appreciate your feedback....send us an email.

My contacts extend to other companies, who have no interest in energy for themselves; the value of clean energy for our children and for the children of those who will become victims of the next Clone Wars/for oil or drugs or terror or poverty or borders/ choose your battlefield...has created unusual allies with those who used to be our enemies. Like the Oil Companies.

After finding out that several oil companies are investing billions into wind and water projects around the world...like the Chevron energy solutions for wind and solar in ten of our community colleges in Southern California, including Victorville, CA. Shell Oil and BP Alternatives are becoming leaders in education, and while FPL Energy has not been very pro-active in wind energy education in T-town, they have a really active technology program in Abilene TX, where the next 4,000 megawatt wind farm project is being planned. Boone Pickens is one of the billionaires who is promoting wind and water projects from Texas to Canada, to RE Power the farm belt, and supply water and power to the neighboring cities from the wind.
</itunes:summary>
I then did a video search on the same words and found 39 videos; when I put the same words in quotes and added the words: Lego Robotics, the final result was a single nine minute video, posted by a man in Brazil. I am reposting the video here for anyone who wants to see what a global effort is being made by a single company to promote Energy Education...Kudos to the Lego Company and to the coaches and students at JMS for all their hard work!

REPower Education, which was also the Kern Energy Education Partnership would like to see an after-school program for video journalists, and perhaps there are companies that support the video production that we can ask for their sponsorship, such as Google? Any thoughts from the readers on this idea would be appreciated.</itunes:summary>
I posted some comments on blogs about our afterschool energy/engineering project. I was searching on "ridgecrest + blogs" and found few sites. I am posting the details of our afterschool project on this site, until we can create a blogsite for the Burrough High Energy Farms Project, which will be looking for sponsors among the business owners in ridgecrest and other communities that feed into burroughs high and cerro coso college.

We are the Directors for the Kern Energy Education Project, KEEP; we are looking for a Ridgecrest site for our Energy Blog, which we are calling the Burroughs High Energy Farms, which we will offer to students in the community who are interested in Renewable Energy; science and engineering. we have blog sites in Bakersfield and Tehachapi, which have videos of some our projects' sponsors and their concepts; Tehachapi has the name: "Tehachapi High" windpower, in bakersfield we use the name "Bakersfield High Energy" Farms, and across the country we are published under the title: Renewable Energy Education Project REEP; and Renwable Projects Mission RPM!! We have found that blogging and video logging has created greater visibility than we could have imagined, and the article in the Tehachapi News, with the videos has ranked us as the second link on google under the words: "tehachapi high."

We are not affiliated with the high schools, having organized for after-school and after-work with the energy projects. We just got our first sponsor in Ridgecrest, and will be showing the owners of businesses how to produce power from wind/solar and thermal electric power - all of which are proven and viable energy technologies. We welcome feedback from the alumni of the schools in Ridgecrest and Inyo/Kern Counties.

<itunes:summary> We would like to work with educators to reach students, and develop energy engineering projects at each school site where there is sufficient interest.

Our program; Kern Energy Education Projects is designed to help students progress in the energy/engineering fields, by having student teams select a project in their neighborhood - whether public or private group, that will sponsor a long-term solution to energy costs for that sponsor, which the Energy Education Team will help to provide.

Once the team is organized, and has mutually agreed on an energy project in their community, the team will begin to research and implement an energy solution for the Project, which requires the engineering team/students to go to energy contractors, who are also serving as mentors for different groups in various cities where teams are organized, to assist the team with a list of energy project goals and objectives to be achieved by the students, on behalf of their sponsors.

Training will be provided to the student teams, to help them avoid asking questions that can be answered by online research, and to avoid wasting the contractors' time and patience. It is recommended that each team select a spokesperson, who is able to relate well with energy contractors and other professionals.

The primary objective is to offer training in energy and engineering by hands-on and mentoring, which cannot be obtained in the classrooms. The abilities and different skill levels of students/volunteers is considered when giving out any assignments. The skill levels of participants are expected to range from advanced, with high aptitude to persons with disabilities, who need training or retraining...there is no time limits on training. If it takes a person several months or years to accomplish the project goals, there are no penalties or deadlines, except what a person sets for themselves. A person can enter the team or leave the team at any time. Training is complete when the volunteers are successfully employed in a company that values their newly acquired skills. Some of the teams will start their own businesses and become mentors to the next generation of energy entrepreneurs.

All of the commissions generated are shared by the team; if two people work on a project by themselves, they alone can use the commisions paid for their education and vocational training needs. The commisions paid on these projects can be rather substantial; we do not charge the students for the training.

Our secondary objective is to promote and develop energy-wise communities; where production is more important than our ability to consume, and young people are asked to help solve local problems, by searching the globe for solutions. Alternatives in energy promote alternatives in problem solving and skill development.

Feel free to visit our sponsors links, and I thank you for your interest....
