That's just stupid! It will cost the same amount to bus 20 kids on one bus as it will cost to bus a full load of 40 to 60. Although I don’t live in Tehachapi anymore, I’d be outraged.

Protest!

I suggest all you non migrant working parents with kids should show up at the bus stop the first day and demand your kids get on the bus. If they refuse, stand in front of the bus and block it.

Heck, if you guys decide to do it, I’ll drive 185 miles to support you. Not that it would matter much, but I’d be there.

I have a problem with illegals period as they are breaking the law. I also feel it is a slap in the face of people like my grandfather who went throuh the system and came to this country. However the busing issue is more than just an immigration issue, it is a double standard and classism. If we are to truey be equal, then all students that are going to go to summer school should be allowed bus services.

RM6,

I agree with you that it is wrong to change your mind due to one issue, but look at most American and tell me that it is not true on all issues. Take your pick of any issue and you will see rights being removed slowly with many saying, "That doesn't matter to me, I don't use that service (or whatever it may be)." But once that right starts to affect them they start to change their mind. It is a matter of when the laws, rights, etc start to interfer with a person that it becomes an issue.

May 28, 2008 at 03:05 PM : awsmom8 seems to be...

awsmom8 seems to be disconnected from the wider realities here.. can't say whether that disconnect stems from willing indifference or actual ignorance, but that doesn't excuse her not trying to educate herself on what should be more than well apparent.

First, let's clear up something. She states that Mexico doesn't have a middle class, that is a lie. Mexico has a large and thriving middle class, and that has come at the expense of the jobs of formerly middle class American citizens. The blue collar factory jobs that used to lift Americans out of poverty, and give them the opportunity to own a small home, and provide a better quality of life for their children. awsmom8 ought to actually research the facts, they are available online. Google them, Mexico brags about how it has a housing boom, large suburban housing developments, while it ridicules America for it's mortgage bust.

Outsourcing of American's jobs started in the '80s, but skyrocketed in the '90s after Bill Clinton helped the right wing push through NAFTA. The MSM talks about how NAFTA was bad for Mexico, and that is the reason so many illegal aliens from Mexico come here.. but the truth is that Mexico co-wrote the trade deal along with Canada and the US. What has been bad is the fact that Mexico's government has tried to avoid keeping it's promises to raise wages and enact reforms. The MSM never reports on how those Americans whose jobs were taken away, have never been given help, no jobs came to replace those that were lost.

If you go anywhere in the US where those factories left, you see devastated communities, where citizens have tried hard to find work, but the pitifully lower wages haven't been able to pay for mortgages or sustain any semblance of life. No social programs came in to make up the difference after the government destroyed those citizens lives. There hasn't been hunger and starvation in Mexico, while wages have been lower, so has the cost of living. The costs are dramatically less for everything. Those who seek to come here do so because they want the higher wages Americans earn, so they can send the money back to Mexico so they can be rich. They are aided by corrupt politicians and the illegal alien lobby in getting welfare and other benefits to subsidize their living expenses.

Americans pushed into the street when jobs are taken from them, no special help to make up for this, yet illegals break our laws, and the citizens are forced to subsidize them when they take away many of the American jobs that couldn't be outsourced.

Mexico is the 14th wealthiest country in the world, aside from a large and thriving middle class, it has many billionaires and millionaires. A tax base that could afford to do more for it's people. What's more, the lie that Mexico's corn farmers can't compete against cheaper US corn is a farce. The price of corn has skyrocketed because of biofuels. Mexican corn farmers are getting rich. Does awsmom8 ever think beyond the cheap lies she prefers to swallow?

Why is it that elites like awmom8 can understand their need for income, and rationalize illegal aliens coming here for the mythological "better quality of life". Mexicans have the ability to demand higher wages and better opportunities in their own countries. Mexico isn't the third world. Americans in the last century protested and ultimately gained better wages and opportunities, no one handed anything to them.

The point is to discourage illegal aliens continuing to come to the US, it's called tough love. The American people have already sacrificed enough to help those south of the border. We have a massive debt and a declining pool of jobs. It is immoral, the mind set of those who rationalized slavery hundreds of years ago, to support the discrimination against American citizens in the workplace, the erosion of our wage and workplace protections through the use of illegal alien labor. What's more it only serves to rationalize the status quo illegals claim to be escaping. We as a nation would be happy to stand with those people demanding their home countries raise wages and increase opportunities for their own people.. after all, Mexico's strong and wealthy economy can afford to tax it's people to help their own poor.

I have...

I have spoken to the principal at JMS, the superintendent's assistant and another person at the District Office. I am told it was a decision by the school board.

As a homeschooling parent of my daughter, we are going to be going over math and some LA this summer. One of the problems is that math is my weakness and a lot of the concepts I don't understand. Give me a class on Pediatric Pathophyisiology of the Newborn and I'll Ace it! But abstract reasoning is tough for me. I'm 50 years old and my 8th grade math skills (which were 10/11th grade when I went to school!) are more than a little rusty. The math book that TUSD uses is confusing and problems appear that have not been covered in previous lessons. I can see why he needs help. I have been told up to 30 percent of the problems are on concepts not introduced to "challenge the advanced student." At home, we will be using Saxon Math this summer as it has a direct approach that builds on previous knowledge. But I was also told a few mths ago if he didn't go to summer school, he couldn't graduate and would have to repeat 8th grade. I'm all for that, as he need to learn responsibility for his actions (or in actions!) but he will be 15 when school starts and that poses problems. I wouldn't want a 15 yo boy hanging around my 12 and 13 yo daughter. He will be 15 because in AZ you had to be 5 by Aug 1 for kindergarten and he just missed it. If he would of started school in CA, he would be a 9th grader now. But now I'm told that he can go to 9th grade even if he doesn't go to summer school! So math is on the agenda this summer! Last month I had asked about homeschooling math this summer as the only time I work is during the summer but was told no, he needs credits and homeschooling doesn't give credits. My answer was that he needs KNOWLEDGE and skills needed for the next grade. Ironically, his state test scores are high esp. after I homeschooled him for a year.

My son needs to take responsibility for this mess he created. But it still goes back to the issue that students who are US citizens are not being provided buses for summer school, whereas children who are not legal citizens are.

Hi Awsmom8 there is a web based program out there called ALEKS that is a math program/tutor it costs about 20 a month but you can cancel at any time. It will assess your son's abilities and start from where his learning point is. I used it for college Algebra at Bakersfield college but it also has high school math as well. You should check it out they give a 3 hour free trial www.aleks.com and see if it might be something that would fit for your son.

As for busing (which ticks me off) I have no choice about sending my son to summer school he won't graduate HS if he doesnt go. The big problem I have is I wasn't aware he was going to be needing to attend summer school and made vacation plans the first week which are not reversible. I need to find someone who can drive him that week of June 16-20 while we are gone, I am willing to pay for the gas but I don't know that many people with kids (my son's been living with his dad the last 3 years and is moving home as soon as he is out of school there and right int school here) I live in Cummings Valley and I just assumed the bus would be available like it has been since we moved here. I don't know what we are going to do I guess I will take an ad out in the paper looking for someone.

Good Luck with the math.

Wow thanks Luvmykatz--I looked up Aleks and it looks good. My daughter is a piece of cake to home school but my son is like the Battle of Alamo, lol! So Aleks looks like a great program!

I don't know anybody going to summer school as they have all backed out with the busing issue. I still can't believe if you are a legal citizen there is no bussing but if you are not a citizen there is! Only in America!

I will email you if I hear of anyone going to summer school.

I hired some one I trust to do it, I told her I would pay her 50.00 for her time and trouble since she lives in GH and has to back track but her child is going as well so it will help her out. I don't have the choice of backing out at his stage he has to get every credit possible to graduate. The on-line program the kids can do is nice but it costs like 250.00 per class. He needs to do it the old fashoned way but thanks for the response by next year maybe he can just drive we will be working on that this summer as well.

BTW I just loved the Aleks program I tell everyone about it when they need help in that subject. I actually got a bit addicted to it because it challenged me but what can I say I guess I'm a little nerdy I like accounting too. LOL
